Excited for Unicorn, yet more "Japanese can't handle losing WWII" (like the remake so far), and ... nothing else. The rerun of Seed Destiny is perplexing as honestly it was shit.. I love it because it's 50 episodes of gratuitous mecha, but it's pretty awful.

Shingeki no Kyojin will probably be excellent.

Man, this bites. Every new season only seems to bring one show I want to watch, lately.

The Shingeki manga is great even if I find the art a bit weird, I can't wait for the anime.

Shingeki no Kyojin is the must see for me though surprisingly, I've also found a decent amount of shows to watch as compared to the previous three or four seasons.

Devil Survivor 2 looks fairly interesting with its "Final-Destination"-esque premise.

I'm always a fan of mecha anime so seeing two different ones being broadcasted has given me something to watch for.

A decent humor anime in the form of Hataraku no Maou-sama.

And the space opera Uchuu Senkan Yamato 2199 looks interesting as well.

All in all, a much better showing than nearly an entire year's worth of dismal seasons. Can't wait for it to start.

Is it bad that, even as a fan of anime, I felt a bit like I had unwittingly wandered into the Worst Summaries thread?

I guess I shouldn't mock; I've seen worse cartoons based on better concepts, so...

Oh, look, more Railgun. [IMG] Index got a second season, so I was hoping to see more of this.

In totally unrelated news: This afternoon I get to find out whether the appointment to get my hair cut will be pushed back a second time. If it does, I might just have un-cut-able hair... :p

Though you forget that, reduced to one line, almost every anime ever aired would sound as bad.

    Which animes are these?
    • Boy finds giant robot and saves the world
    • Boy accidentally activates giant robot and saves the world
    • Boy is the only one able to ride a giant robot and saves the world
    • Father forces boy to ride a giant robot and save the world
    • Boy loves girl with a giant robot and saves the world

    1. Mobile Suit Gundam
    2. Macross?
    4. Neon Genesis Evangelion

all of them sound great what are they?

Devil Survivor 2 is pretty much going to be the plot of the DS game. So, basically here's what's going to happen in the DS2 anime: demons are going to start showing up and the world is going to more or less end. The main characters need to figure out how to survive in this world, which is really helped along by their demon summoning programs and the fact that they get emails telling them that someone's about to die.

Along the way, it takes some cues from Evangelion and some serious cues from the mainline Shin Megami Tensei games.

If it goes the way I hope it will, the protagonist is going to be a hilarious asshole and the show will rule. I'm afraid it won't.

EDIT: I'm debating putting half of that in a spoiler box. I don't think it's a spoiler, but...I guess it might be?
EDIT2: May as well play it safe.

As has become my habit, I only watch new shows that average a 3 or better on ANN's preview guide. Here are my impressions of them so far.

    Gargantia on the Verderous Planet
    [IMG]

This is easily my favorite show this season. Scripted by the Urobutcher, this science fiction anime is off to a great start. There have been a whole lot of uncomfortable implications made so far, and watching how they get confronted and resolved is going to be interesting. This show is also surprisingly humorous at times considering who wrote the script (guess even Urobochi can't be grim all the time).

Also, best robots this season. AND THEY SURF ON WATER THIS TIME!

    Red Data Girl

Who liked xxxHolic and Mushishi? While I can't promise that RDG is exactly like those shows (because it isn't) it is of a similar vein in that it focuses on the weird and supernatural. It uses its main and major supporting characters very well, and gives them as much time as they need to become memorable in their own way. I'm looking forward to seeing if RGD can keep up its current level of quality.

    Flowers of Evil
    [IMG]

I dare you to find me something made recently that has the same feel as Flowers of Evil. This show is uncomfortable from the start, and having read the manga I know it will get worse as time goes on. Unless you are Rents a massive creeper, that is. Completely worth it though. Highly recommend watching this, or just reading the manga since it looks to be a panel for panel adaptation (like Black Lagoon).

Don't get me started on how fucking retarded you are if you don't watch this show just because it's rotoscoped. I wont deny that it will take a bit to get used to the odd animation choice, but trust me when I say that it only adds to the experience instead of detracting from it.

    Attack on Titan
    [IMG]

The other big show of the season, at least according to everyone else. Sorry guys, but I couldn't get into this one. I've yet to read the manga, so I had no idea what to expect when I watched the first episode a few weeks ago. What I got was an overly dramatic mess that bored me more than anything else. Maybe that's the price of admission, but I'm not going to bother watching week to week in order to find out. I will give it another shot when more episodes have been released, but until then I'll spend my time on more important anime.

    The Devil is a Part-Timer!

Like this thing! On the heels of Useless Bags of Meat, the Anime, we have another show about a demon lord, a hero, and an overly convoluted plot! Maybe.

This is one of the few straight up comedies that has clicked with me in recent years. The last one to do so was Level E, and that was two or three years ago (I think), which had an arguably similar premise to this show. The obvious gags were used pretty dang quickly, and as of the most recent episode the majority of the humor is based on the various characters being played off each other. Genuinely hilarious, though the possible srsbznz plot that is starting to show its head might ruin that (just like Abenobashi). Will keep watching, for now.

    Arata: The Legend
    [IMG]

As someone who enjoyed but didn't love Fushigi Yuugi, I was leery of watching another anime based on a much better manga by Yuu Watase. Having finally given in and watched episode one, I have to say that my gut was right on this one. Arata the Anime is a complete pass. Don't waste your time with this one, just waste it on the manga instead.

    Severing Crime Edge
    [IMG]

The anime that's about a guy with a hair cutting fetish meeting a girl who's hair can't be cut. It sounds dumb, really, really, really dumb, but it somehow works. Sorta. if this were a fic, I'd put this in the Barely Recommended thread. Check it out if you think you can roll with its inherent dumbness. If not, then don't bother.

I've also been checking out the new season of Railgun. Positively awesome, but if you haven't watched the previous season then don't bother.

    Insulting members much?

Anyways, I thought Gargantia is the only mech show this season? Or is Titan also a robot show.

Valvrave the Liberator is a mech show, but it didn't rate high enough for me to bother with.

Valvrave starts like the typical Gundam series:

Attack on a habitat, boy runs somewhere, stumbles over the newest Mobil Suit, enters it and activates it.

Then some Eva moments: Boy in Mecha gets beaten up, hits a button and goes berserk (kind of, Gundam style)

But the last scene of the first episode was awesome.

Boy leaves mecha. Enemyboy comes up and shoots boy, boy dies. Enemyboy moves on to enter giant mecha. Then face of boy comes up behind enemyboy and takes a bite out of enemyboy's neck...

I didn't like the second episode that much, but will give it a third before I drop it.

I also follow Gargantia and Attack on Titan and might try the other animes Banta mentioned. But counting the last years I actually don't manage to follow more than two shows per season - especially spring / summer.
