Alright, I have an HP 6719c desktop computer that was purchased from costco about a year and a half ago.
    This is it. http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsuppor...portFAQ&prodSeriesId=5035348&prodTypeId=12454

I want to upgrade the power supply and graphics card so that I can play modern warfare 2, dayZ, left4dead1/2, FNV without the computer lurching and just plain quitting on me.

Would I be bottlenecking myself by just upgrading these?

These are the parts i was considering. If you know more or have a better idea, please share it.

I had a look at the computer you have and the parts you linked.

First of all bottlenecking is really something of a misnomer, unless you have a truly decrepid processor and are buying a top end graphics card or using crossfire/sli then it really isn't something you should excessively worry about. Sure you might get a few extra fps with a i5 3570K but it isn't a huge problem. As for your quad core Phenom it should be perfectly fine. A 7850 would be a great upgrade, it is what I am running now. It comes with a great games bundle right now, is a fairly cool and efficient card and has a great price/performance ratio right now. If you are technically minded, a lot of them also overclock like a beast (if you are inclined to explore OCing your card try and get a card with a custom cooler).

I'm not sure why you linked the 7750, it's not a bad card but I wouldn't recommend it as an upgrade unless you are gaming at resolutions of below 1080p (incidentally, pertinent question: what resolution will you be gaming at?).

As for the PSU I would be careful about that and put a good amount of research into it. Cheap and nasty PSUs have been the end of many a system. It's well worth spending a little extra to get a good brand PSU and they can often cross over multiple builds. Id suggest this :

Seasonic are generally considered one of the best if not the best PSU makes. Its 80 Plus Bronze rated so more efficient and has Japanese capacitors. As for the Raidmax I can't say it is a brand I have any experience with or have even heard of really. That's not to say it is a bad PSU necessarily just be aware.

I've got a Quad-Core Phenom and it's still doing great for all my needs. I have the 965 BE though, which is a bit better than yours, but close enough that I think you're probably fine with that for a bit longer. I plan to upgrade in about a year (but you can always keep your parts when you upgrade and use them in a later build, so yay).

I have a Radeon 6850 and it's still going strong. Pretty sure the 7850 is the successor and I know it's the one I keep seeing recommended for semi-budget builds. If you want a more budget friendly card I think the 7770 (better than 7750) is available at a great price ($99!), so I'd go for that instead. Should be fine for your needs.

Speaking of budget, what is your budget? If you are strapped for cash (or playing on low resolution) you're probably fine with a lesser card. Otherwise it's solid. Not sure about the HIS brand though, I haven't heard the best things so read reviews first. An extra $10 for a good brand might be worth it. I suspect the Gigabyte one will be superior.

I think Corsair Builders Series makes good budget PSUs as well. 500W version ($60 but with a current deal for $20 off makes it $40).

But yeah -- (1) Budget, (2) Resolution of monitor, and less important, (3) How long does this need to last for / How high of game settings do you want

[edit] I also suggest asking over at HardForum.com in their General Hardware section. Great site and they're pretty up-to-date on this stuff too.

I'd change my recommendation as well to that Corsair. Corsair are a great brand too and that is a really good deal for that PSU if you remember to send in the rebate. As for graphics card brands Gigabyte are a good brand as Cheddar said, I'd also suggest MSI. My own card is a Twin Frozr and it's never gave me a minute of trouble.

Thanks for all the great advice you guys.

I went ahead and chose to purchse the corsair PSU and an Asus 7850.

Although looking at it now I'm afraid I might have made a mistakewhen purchasing the Graphics card.

I was looking at the minimum requirements of some games and I don't think I will have enough VRAM to play them. Dayz's and Bioshock Infinite 's minimum requirements say that you need at least 512 MB of dedicated memory. Don't I only have 256? Was this a bad idea?

But then I think, why would they give you a free game for buying a card that couldn't run it?

It seems that you misread that - the card has 2 GB VRAM, and the 256-bit are how the VRAM is addressed, so you shouldn't have any problems with VRAM.

I had a feeling that My worries may have been unfounded. Thanks for confirming that.

My ignorance of things usually encourages me to second guess myself and sometimes I need to stop and reexamine the larger picture. Thanks man.
