Wait, so "three inches deep" meant the vertical depth of the drawer? I read it as the front to back length, because that's how "deep" it sits in the wall. I'd imagined a tiny drawer like you might find in a jewellery case, and was trying to guess at the possible contents based on the size.

Your explanation makes sense, Ennead. Thank you.

The implication is that D&D came to BB to recruit Skitter to their squad back when they were forced to out her at Arcadia.

That's a very ambiguous statement. Put it this way, I'll be very surprised if Skitter:Weaver has no more contact with the Undersiders. I'd say it's very possible that Dinah engineered this whole situation, with this exact result in mind. "Break Ties" doesn't mean she can never speak to them again. Hopefully.

Guess we'll find out soon enough heh.

Taylor read Dinah's message, and decided, using her impressive powers of intellect, that resting on her laurels as the head of Brockton Bay while the PRT grew increasingly hostile and more likely to escalate was not in the best interest of her, of the Undersiders, or of the world at large.

So she decided that she needed to break those ties and free herself from those self-imposed shackles, knowing full well that she would no longer be able to see her friends or try to micro-manage their escapades. She trusted in them that they would be able to run the city as she would have wanted, and defend it accordingly.

Taylor is meant for bigger things, and she realized this. Her place, if she really wants to save the world, isn't in her happy little corner of it. So as upset as you may be about the Undersiders no longer being a major concern to Taylor, the fact is that this is an important point in Taylor's character growth and it's not something to be taken lightly.

And of course they'll interact again.

Reasonably speaking, I don't see how they could stop Taylor from coordinating with Tattletale. I mean, she is basically clairvoyant when it comes down to it, so preventing their collusion can only happen officially; unofficially, Taylor can be in close contact with them if they still want to be with her, and she them, so I don't see it as a major issue. "Breaking ties" is rather ambiguous (and potentially impossible) and I'm curious to see how this plays out, whether she will maintain a close relationship with her friends or push them away as I think she will do.

Stop putting words in my mouth please.

I never once said that Taylor would go back to being the head of the Undersiders. I said she would remain in contact with them, and co-ordinate with them in times of need.

If anything, I'm glad she's moved on from them, In fact, I said "Since the start, I've always expected Skitter to join with the Protectorate at some point, and this was pretty much the perfect time for it to happen. "

I've never particularly liked any of the Undersiders, besides Tattletale maybe. My exact words were:

You seem to of completely misread my post, and are taking it rather personally. My original post wasn't even directed at you, it was directed at everyone who was acting like Taylor had betrayed the villains, and they'd never speak again. Your post just happened to be above mine.

For the next interlude I'd like to see something from Calle or a forum set-up with Charlotte...has there been anything said in IRC?

I'm not putting these words in your mouth, am I?

Because you seem to believe that Taylor will still have a significant say in the running of the city, specifically since you reference Accord and the Ambassadors. And that doesn't really lend itself to the notion of cutting ties, does it?

That's all I've got to say on the matter, but to me cutting ties means cutting ties. Taylor is going to focus on more important things and trust in her teammates to do what needs to be done to protect the city.

    Interesting detail was just added.

    http://parahumans.wordpress.com/f-a-q/

Worm will end this year, which is shocking to me. I'm guessing the next 8~ arcs will span the entire 2 years, which means lots of time skips, or one big one, somewhere. I expected two years of writing, to be honest, but I suppose the end is nearing sooner than I thought.

That was the old timeline. It's been pushed forward a bit so that the story will end some time early next year.

ther is going to be a sequel, so even if there is no timeskip. there is still thing that will eventually happen. we might not even get a true end to skitter story by the end of this year.

Nah. Wildbow only came up with the idea of the sequel mid-way into Worm, and he's always planned to end this story. I can't see him putting the ending off just to have it happen in the sequel.

No, you're just misreading them, and you're putting more words into my mouth.

The word 'apparently' isn't meant to say that I doubt she's joined the Protectorate, which should be clear due to me saying I'm glad she did in the next paragraph. I just meant that the chapter makes me think she has, but I'm not 100% sure that's the case yet.

Nowhere did I say that Taylor would have a significant say of how the Undersiders run the city. I've said that Taylor will have contact with the Undersiders, and presumably through them, contact with Accord. He could still be very useful with his power, if he's controlled properly.

Tattletale has an incredibly useful power, why would Taylor just ignore the ability to tap into that? However, debating this isn't really possible, since we don't know what comes next. I'm of the opinion that Dinah's note was sent with the purpose of upsetting the status quo, setting events into motion which lead to Taylor joining the Protectorate. Now that that's done, I don't think she means that Taylor can't have contact with any of her old associates.

Huh, what? Skitter's still going to jail? Who's convinced that's a good idea? They better not waste her time like that.

I find myself really disliking Danny. I understand where he's coming from, but I still don't like him.

The chat room snippet was neat.

The puppy thing felt off to me. I can't pinpoint exactly what it was...

Overall, not the best interlude, but interesting enough. I'm ready to get back to Skitter's story now.

I too am a little surprised the the Wards seems to be Taylor's destination. I'd think she'd want to be involved in bigger things. This seems like a step backwards, though this speculation may be a bit premature. Same with the jail time. If the Protectorate wants her, wasting her time like that seems silly. They could twist things around enough to get her off if they wanted.

Also interesting that Tattletale has apparently decided that Number Man is no longer her banker of choice. Did she figure out that he was involved with Cauldron, or is there another reason for the switch?

Turned into a monster? Did you not notice how she was shaking Danny? Give her the bloody benefit of the doubt! Also, Danny boy, see how the less assholish of the two people there, Miss M., did not actually try to restrain her?

I can see where he's coming from right now, but like his inaction in the start, when he did not confront his teenage daughter about going out in the middle of the night, I kind of despise his character. "Is this on me?" - really, man? Self-obsessed much? It also kinda makes me wonder whether what Emma said, about him blaming Taylor for her mum's death, was true.

Personally, I want to seriously see Emma's reaction to this. And, I really hope we don't get into some sort of Taylor is being bullied with the new wards arc next.

Yeah. It's really been a progression, but I've gone from a fairly neutral opinion of Danny to full on hating the guy. Seems to me like he'll say no to the Wards program and Skitter will rot in juvie for the timeskip. That or they chuck her in the birdcage anyways. Honestly, I agree with the sentiments Skitter was having a couple chapters ago: the PRT, the Protectorate, it all deserves to burn, and the shittyness of the current situation isn't even enough to change my mind.

    Edit:

I have a much easier time believing that than I do disbelieving it at this point.

My problem with Danny is that he doesn't really understand any sort of loyalty to family, which really rubs me raw as it is the exact opposite of the way I was raised. That said, I somewhat understand him; he hasn't really been able to connect to Taylor for years despite trying and he's worried that she has turned into a monster with whom him just rubberstamping will only make things worse. In a way he wants what's best for her, but he has absolutely no trust in her despite seeing what she's accomplished. I mean come on, you don't take over and run a city without having some sort of competence.
