I rememeber a series of 3 fics, I think. It's where Harry ends up in an alternate universe and merges with his evil counterpart. Then leaves and ends up in a world where Katie Bell is the GWL? Can anyone remember the exact name of these fics?

So sad that it was left unfinished.

You can find bits and pieces of Promised Land scattered about on the interweb; it's just a question of going on a hunt.

Ched linked me to it last year, ask her...

My favorite fanfic period. I would advise anyone who hasn't read it to read it now.

But the memories of reading it are. That's why I fear rereading classics :(

I'd say they're at least worth a read.

    Dude, that was unnecessary.

His opinion differs from yours, respect that.

    Bloody hell.

Is the "Stranger Series" an excellent Fanfiction series? Yeah, I think it is. There's good storytelling and a lot of originality without going so far that it becomes unrecognizable as Harry Potter.

But there's a huge difference in "excellent Fanfiction" and "excellent in general." There always has been. Compared to other fanfics this series is probably a 4-5/5 depending on your tastes.

Compared to the quality of writing needed to get published? Yeah, it's not even close. More and more fanfic authors are trying to go that route and as such I think standards are rising. *shrug*

TL;DR -- I think it's a great fanfic. That doesn't make it great, but it makes it worthwhile. At least imo.

it was a fair exchange. Mknote's "go fuck yourself" was delivered in the same format as "The fic isn't that good" meaning that they were equivalent in tone and target.

"The fic isn't that good" was delivered as a direct reply to Mknote's recommendation, making it more offensive that Mknote's defensive reply. In fact by telling him to fuck off rather than trying to argue that he is objectively wrong, Mknote is acknowledging that Lord Anarchy has a right to his own opinion, but that opinion will not change Mknote's.

    (also both replies are amusing)

Not really, mknote has the bad habit of not knowing how to control his level of aggression. The equivalent tone would be, "Spoiler: your mom isn't that good." or something equally stupid.

The series has everything: Indy!Harry, Dark!Harry, Evil!Harry EpitomeofSlytherin!TomRiddle, Wizards vs Muggles, Competent DE and Aurors, Dark Lord Grindlewald, Badass Frank Longbottom, epic action scenes, brilliant plot, very lengthy. What more could you want from a fic? I hope its finished oneday. I wonder what Evil!Harry has done in Canon!Harry's universe.

What people need to remember is that this series was started nearly 10 years ago. There are very few, if any, fanfictions that have aged as well as this has.

I love Jono's fics, but even I have to admit it's hard to engage with them in the same way. There's too much water under the bridge and fanfiction has evolved so much.

But they were revolutionary at the time. The fandom literally wouldn't exist as it does now without them.

Basically, this. Lord Anarchy has a right to his opinion, and it's a perfectly valid opinion... I just disagree with it 100%.

I agree with you for the most part. However, I don't think it's "hard to engage with them," as you put it. On the contrary, the stories read just as good to me now as when I first read them.

I could go on gushing about the series more, but I'd just as soon point you to my rather long-winded review of the series that I've already posted.
