I'm puzzled on this. Let me clarify, what exactly I'm puzzled on.

If say Harry was bitten by Remus at the end of 3rd year, would he transform into a werewolf on that very night because the full moon has just came up when Remus transforms?

It's something that's plagued my thoughts over the past few days. Ever since I watched all 4 Underworld movies and saw how fast the Lycans transformed after being bitten.

There's no evidence to suggest that he wouldn't transform. Also, question probably didn't need it's own thread. For something like this, use this thread.

Depends if its a instant magic like curse, or just a magical virus, if the latter, it might take some time. But then, if it were the latter, it might be able to be cured.

Huh, I went out certain that there was something, but beside the guy in the hospital, where it only might be implied that he didn't yet change, or with the similar arguments, that he had already changed, there actually isn't.
(I'd say that "Werewolf bite, no cure" implies that he was bitten but didn't yet change, because otherwise he wouldn't need to be in St. Mungos. But of course, this assumes a healing factor that comes with the Lycanthropy , that is also very common in the myths, but unconfirmed in HP.)

The most popular version is that you have to survive the night and until the next moon to change. I am for that version, because Underworld was weird with it's choice of instant transformation, and it raises too many weird questions of how Lupin didn't main anything in his first full moon if he started transforming just after being bitten.

You could also want to ask this:

If Remus bit Harry and afterwards, Harry travelled back in time despite his injuries to save Sirius, would he transform when the very same full moon comes up again, as it is his first full moon after a werewolf bite in that one?

I chose no, but it fucked up the Lycanthropy curse in small ways.

I hope this gets merged propper, or moved.

The thing that bothered me the most was that they were walking through the Hogwarts grounds on the night of a full moon and Lupin only turned when a cloud that was covering the moon moved.

Which would imply that werewolves could just stay in a room with no windows and be cool.

That would imply complete nonsense of a changing system. The full moon is visible at varying times - during day or night indiscriminately.

To actually stay inside and this way escape the moonlight would be so easy that one could wear heavy moonlight-proof clothes and be done with it.

My guess is that Rowling intended it to be just the right time for a change.

Or, Rowling's werewolves can only change then they think about the moon (during the full moon), or are observing it. A sort of reverse weeping angel idea.

Since we do know that Remus remained safe changed inside his office... Why couldn't he remain there with the windows closed if he needed to actually see the moonlight for the change to occur in the first place. (Why couldn't he take the dreamless sleep potion before the full moon? Seems like it would be more straightforward than Wolfs-bane, too)

Also, he changed inside of the Shack when he was a student, where there are no windows for the moonlight to light him up. This bit is probably the strongest argument for the consistent changing time.

Bring out the exact amount of fullness of the moon that is required for the werewolf to change in question, and you have a varying length and times of changing. Inconsistent with his running as a wolf the whole night and being finish the very next day.

That means that the moon is more of a timer in this Rowling verse, same as it is with many other stories, and the change occurs on one (?probably only one - but that raises a question of why Remus was missing for longer periods) night of the full moon, when the moon is it's fullest.

And wizards know when that day is, because they have Astronomy for measuring that.

As a side note, forgetting to drink a potion is also stupid and crazy - same as forgetting about the night of the full moon...

This came out a bit disjointed, and probably no one cares, but I had tried to gather the truth from the bits and pieces a couple of times and had to go with whatever seemed reasonable enough. There's no good consistent theory for Rowling's werewolves that doesn't require at least some ignorance of stated facts.

Don't get me started on her full moon dates.

    tl;dr
Rowling's werewolves are the exact same thing as wizarding economy, some weird creature that supposedly works, looks different from each side, and fails to survive some basic questioning.

p.s. If we go by the movie's image of the werewolf, the five differences from normal wolves are thus:
    1) pupils of the eyes,
    2) snout shape,
    3) tufted tail
    4) humanoid disposition
    5) everything fucking else

I thought the Mungo's scene was meant to imply that one becomes a werewolf if they survive the initial trauma and/or illness of being bitten. I figured being bitten, or attacked in a way so as to be bitten, would have a decent chance of just killing you outright, leaving those who survived, for whatever reason, permanently cursed.

That is my opinion too, but it could be twisted easliy it in the opposite way with very similar arguments - he was desperate, and everyone knew that he could not be healed from his state - why not an after-first-change-state?

That's the problem when you try to figure out canon that Rowling didn't even care about.

This has actually given me an idea. It's a pretty simple premise; Harry gets bitten by a second werewolf, just after Lupin turns. He doesn't transform instantly, so he then goes back in time to try and stop Pettigrew from escaping. The full moon then proceeds to rise, Harry turns into a werewolf and bites himself, effectively becoming his own werewolf sire.

I don't have much of a plot beyond there, but it could be interesting to mess with the usual werewolf cycle because of the time turner's involvement. Introduce a new element and all that.

Hermione would have an aneurism over Harry blatantly shitting on causality.

That's the thing about time travel. It opens up so many options for paradoxes. :D

Going by what little werewolf fiction I've seen, this would mean he'd become an alpha werewolf rather than a beta one. The leader of the pack. He wouldn't start out as a submissive.

    Let me be opaque.

He would no longer need to be fucked in the ass.

Not sure what it is about werewolves, but they seem to only exist in paranormal romance or as - somehow all bottoms - homosexuals.

I once came across a nightmare of a novel in which the protagonist became a werewolf of a sort, joining an all-male Viking community of werewolf warriors. They also had soul bonds with familiar wolves. Once a month the wolves would go into a mating frenzy and gangbang the ladywolves. Because of the effect through the soul bond, the men would suffer the same effect, and brutally gangrape whoever was bonded to the female wolf. They often did not survive the experience.

The protagonist was a young boy and the author an overweight woman. I do not remember her name, but I do remember that she mentioned her cats in the author bio inside the cover.

I'd like to read a werewolf!Harry fic true to the folklore. No buttseckz, just hairy people eating other people.

I'm appalled at what you people are reading.

Even Twilight handled it's almost-werewolves better. With the same soul bond bullshit, and all other nonsense going on around, at that.

Go play some Skyrim, or do anything else that has werewolves.

No sculped man in daisy dukes running around? You. Villan! And next you demand that being a werewolf is, you know, a curse, and not magical steroids for every single part of you body and your senses. You know, like canon? The only fic I evermsaw treated this way is Nauro's, and that's why is the only one I read that involves weres. Well Tinn Tann's is a great fic, so let it slide because the story is great and her explanation more than believable.

Really, there is one fic where Harry was in total control in woof! Mode, and he pranked Lupin. Fuck you. Another were the author confused HP with Van Helsing. And one where Harry is a Lycan. That was rape in the form of words.

One las thing, a were in the books is just a slight modified wolf, meanwhile in the movie we get the hybrid, more traditional (in movies) type. Which one you think is better?

As a protagonist or main character, the altered wolf form is better, because that usually goes hand in hand with some measure of control over the transformation. Hybrid wolfman transformations are typically the out-of-control rabid monsters on the full moon. These work better as antagonists and evil characters, partly because they are monsters, and partly because of the recognisable human element within the monsters.

Bad people are scary. Monsters are scary. People so monstrous they want to eat you...they're on another level.
