I dunno, whilst Naruto underwent a lot of character growth and it's likely his understanding of what it means to be Hokage changed, I never got the impression his actual motivation for becoming one ever changed. It's always tied to his desire for acknowledgement such as his father's having the same motivation, the crowd after he defeated Nagato and Itachi's little speech about acknowledgement.

I refer to the fact that edo!Itachi lectured Naruto about how the best hokages are the ones who are acknowledged and respected by the people they lead before ever becoming hokages, and that how Minato became the hokage not to get respect of others, but because he WAS respected already. Basically telling Naruto that his childhood idea of becoming Hokage so that people would respect him was the wrong way to about it.

When Sasuke declares his intention, the rookies speak out against him, rightfully pointing out his misdeeds, at which point Sasuke declares that he basically does not give a damn what they (the people he would hypotethically be leading) think. In other words, Sasuke wants to be the hokage, but he does not care that thanks to his crimes and betrayals, he lacks the acknowledment and respect of the people. When this happens, Naruto has a FLASHBACK, to Itachi saying that this is the wrong attitude to have, making it pretty clear that Itachi does not approve of Sasukes intentions (or atleast, the WAY he is going about it). It is after that, that Naruto picks himself up and declares that Sasuke won't be the hokage.

Ofcourse that does not mean that Itachi might not wish for Sasuke to become the hokage, but rather that right now, in Itachis viewpoint atleast, Sasuke is going about it the wrong way. Nothing says he might not change his approach (especially if Naruto tells Sasuke what Itachi said), and Itachi would probably be happy about that.

Itachi, dead or alive, loves Sasuke more than anything and believes in Sasuke more than anyone.

The flashback with Itachi was with regards to Naruto's desire to do everything himself, not trusting in others to fulfill their parts. His point was that no matter your intentions, you cannot allow yourself to be clouded by that kind of arrogance.

You're trying to grasp at straws for that to mean (in your exact words) "he believed that Sasuke as a hokage would result to disaster." No. Although Itachi's final remark applies to both Naruto and Sasuke, the circumstances are different and the advice would be different. Sasuke's desire to become Hokage would definitely be seen as a step in the right direction. He makes very clear exactly why he wants to become Hokage as well: the actions of the previous Hokages who inadvertently helped the current situation to happen.

Whatever. Naruto had a flashback to that scene, so he atleast think it applies. Maybe the "real" Itachi would love Sasukes declaration.

But not how he is going to do that, which I think would be pretty damn vital considering he has with his own actions previously proven himself to be a traitor willing to try his best to murder his friends and allies to achieve his goals.

You yourself say it. None of the hokages wanted anything bad to happen, it happened anyway, beyond their ability to stop it. What has Sasuke brought to the table that shows he would do a better job, given his PAST record of being pretty insane.

Dunno what you expect from him right now, to be honest. Should he have come with a written report on how he is going to fix the circumstances which are beyond fixing right now since the person responsible is dead? I rather think that he meant that, once he is Hokage, he will do everything in his power to prevent such tragedies from happening again, to sacrifice a whole clan, or rather to kill your own people for "peace".

It is a bit naive as of now, sure, but not impossible. That's the thing about Sasuke, he really doesn't care what others think about him, never did. He cares about living up to certain, relatively impossible measurements of his brother. So, in his mind, he doesn't need for people to like him, since that is never something he concerned himself with. But fact is, he did make people like, constantly without trying at that. That is not only because he is handsome and skilled but rather also because, at his core of a human, Sasuke does value mercy and life and respects other people enough to never really start arguments unless they get in his face. He went out of his way numerous times to spare and save lives, never insulted anyone unless they got in his face and while he was detached and sure in his abilities, I would argue that he was never all that arrogant.

So, yeah, he may not have a solution on hand, simply because there is none, just the belief that he would do a better job because he has lived through such an experience that has fundamentally effected him. And, you know, might very well be true. He is smart, strong and charismatic enough to do the job, if one were not to count his whole traitor thing, which should disqualify him from it. However, I do not begrudge his new intent, as opposed to Naruto who was actually speaking out of his ass when he talked about destroying the circle of hatred and whatever.

    Edit: New Chapter is out

Nice to see the third do something but I wasn't really able to take the fight all that seriously, by which I mean, not at all. Obito is just doing things now.

How unexpected. And by unexpected, I mean totally expected.

Was I the only one who found everything about this chapter utterly ridiculous and cringe-worthy?

Have to agree, the fighting was horribly easy to predict. Juubito, (As I have decided to refer to him as, until it's clear who's in charge of the body) smacks the Hokage around...what a surprise. If they didn't have Edo Tensei Bodies, they'd be dead and buried by now.

Anyway what was up w/ the ending? It's probably obvious, but I don't get it. The whole Team 7 picture thing kind of came out of nowhere.

The last scene seems to be implying that Sasuke still plans to kill Naruto. One of those "no-one gets to kill him but me" situations.

Why would he still want to kill Naruto? He doesn't hate him, nor does he want him dead. Since he no longer plans to destroy Konoha anymore and if that is true, no sense in trying to kill Naruto. Just thought it was further proof for his "redemption".

It's suggested by Tobirama that they are only being quite so 'smacked around' because they are taking advantage of their ability to regenerate. Granted, they probably wouldn't be able to avoid injury from him even if they couldn't regenerate.

If it was just the image of Team 7 then I would have thought 'redemption'. But that was the impression I got from Naruto's image being cut and Sasuke's dialogue. I've no idea why he'd want as the only reason I can think of is that he sees Naruto as an obstacle for him becoming Hokage. We've already had hints that Sasuke hasn't gotten onto the good guy track as much as it seems, and we don't know how he intends to fix things by becoming Hokage.

Sai seems to be the only one whos realized Sasuke hasnt turned completely good, and maybe Minato with the emotion sensing if he has that ability aswell

Sai was shown as the most openly suspicious but it felt like we were being given hints from other characters too. The rookies were suspicious before getting back on task, Juugo was wondering what Sasuke was doing, Sakura's blatantly faking her happiness about his return and Naruto and Hashirama have both shown glimpses of concern about him. To me, it seems like there's been an sense of foreboding around Sasuke ever since he arrived.

Sasuke will be Naruto's final opponent. Of that I'm pretty certain. The problem for me with Sasuke in general is that I just can't follow his reasoning anymore, at all. His actions and decisions don't make any sense.

And another thing that is pissing me off is how Kishi is trying to portray Sasuke as this calm, calculated thinker, which he hasn't been in a long time. Sasuke has always been a bit of a hothead himself. And we've been shown throughout Shippuden how Naruto has become much more mature and analytical in combat. But now Kishi is just ignoring all that to prop up Sasuke as per usual. If Kishi was being consistent, it would be Naruto with the greater perceptiveness and analytical ability, and not Sasuke.

This fight is just so damned tensionless. Everyone is immortal.

I know, and it's one of the reasons why Edo Tensei is my least favourite thing about the whole damn series.

I know that it's a logical creation from an in-universe perspective (create a superpowered technique with little to no downsides), but from the reader's perspective it's been such a bad example of deus ex bullshit, and it just robs the story of much of its previous drama of life-or-death situation. Edo Tensei completely removes the entire "life-or-death" part and saps the drama away.

On a related note, does getting revived by Edo Tensei actually give you unlimited chakra? I was under the impression that once you use chakra you have to wait for it to gradually replenish (it took Kakashi a week or so in the first arc), whereas Edo Tensei seems to put you at max capacity as long you're around. If it was explained during Kabuto's demonstration then I must have missed it.

I'm still furious that Kishi brought back the previous Hokage out of the Shinigami's stomach. There was no foreshadowing to the Uzumaki masks or their ability to circumvent the motherfucking death god, and it completely undermined the sacrifices the Sandaime and the Yondaime made in their deaths. Just so they could somehow make Sasuke a good guy again and get their asses kicked by Jubito.

    Bleh.

It does yes. Though as you say, only to your max capacity, not above it, which is why Madara for example cannot just cast the Infinite Tsukuyomi as an edo, but he can spam techniques he does have the chakra for as much as he wants.

It made it seem much more like the 'Death God' was just an advanced sealing construct made by the Uzumaki as a non-corporeal place to lock things away. Maybe it has storage limitations so the whole self sacrifice thing to to prevent too many people from chucking stuff in. If it is manmade then it only makes sense to keep a backdoor.
