A new show starting in a couple of months on CW.

"The story of several young people from around the world who represent the next stage in human evolution, possessing special powers, including the ability to teleport and communicate with each other telepathically. Together they work to defeat the forces of evil."

It looks like it might be a pretty good show, it's written by the Arrow writers so the storyline should be fairly high quality as well. Although my first thought was Heroes remake when I first saw the trailer.

So, basically X-Men with a different name?

Looks very predictable, though the effects look nice.

Fuck, this could actually be really cool.

Edit: but as always, the trailer appears to give away major plot points. :/

Sounds like Alpha's with more powerful abilities.

    Aired last night.

    Thoughts?

I liked that he seems to be going for the mole route.

Out of curiosity, I caught this 'reboot' after Supernatural. It was pretty crappy, even by CW standards.

What with 25-30 year old high-school students, dialogue that felt like it was being read directly from a teleprompter, joyless character interaction, and vague 'homages' to a source material that went largely unwatched by the target audience.... the show didn't get anything right really.

It was pretty interesting. The acting wasn't terrible and the powers are pretty interesting, though the hadouken hand movement thing was pretty cringe worthy. Stephen working for Ultra was definitely not something I expected too, which I liked.

Some of the evolutionary/genetics stuff makes my head hurt though. Bad enough that they somehow got super powers through mutations all of a sudden, but this gene is apparently a recent development yet it's somehow showing up all over the world simultaneously? They also apparently have evolved to not be able to kill people, because "mother nature has a way of balancing things all out". Wouldn't they all have to be somewhat closely related too if their powers come from a specific mutation occurring in a small part of the population? That makes John and Cara's (Kara?) relationship kind of weird.

I think I'm definitely over thinking this, but my suspension of disbelief only goes so far. If a big part of your story is that these powers are genetic and that they've evolved into a separate species, at least try for some accuracy.

Edit: Also wtf was up with the AI supercomputer projector sitting in an abandoned subway tunnel? I mean, they're not even going to try to explain that even a little bit? Stephen also doesn't really seem to be surprised to learn that these guys just have Skynet lying around with all their stolen watches and shit, he just roles with it and decides to engage in some banter with the AI.

^ What they said. I really wish there was some show with an original portrayal of superhumans. I'd even be happy with an X-men type of portrayal where everyone knows of their existence. I was even looking forward to 'Heroes' once their existence was revealed. The large scale repercussions of such a move would have been interesting.

If you're in need of a superhero fix, go watch Chronicle. Great film about three kids that acquire telekinesis. It'll wash away the taint of shows like this.

    Chronicle

Also, yes to all of the above. Pretty bad.

Damn it. Should have checked before posting that.

Alternately, go watch Push instead as well. It's much more in the vein of superheroes/villains, rather than the origin story that is Chronicle. It's also awesome.

Really? I was looking at it in the store, but my friends said it was complete trash so I left it.

I liked Chronicle. Hope they make a sequel at some point.

I've watched both those movies and liked them. Chronicle was an excellent watch, Push was ok. Another movie that should be on that watch list is Jumper.

Ugh, Jumper was terrible. The action sequences were pretty cool and Samuel L. Jackson is a boss, but even then the story was complete rubbish. It says a lot about a film when even Samuel L. Jackson can't make it decent.

Eh. I'll have to see Push for myself I guess.

As for Jumper, I read the book and thought that was fairly good. The movie looked shitty though, not like the book at all.

I remember loving a version of this show when I was like 6?

EDIT: Word, I was right(ish). "The series was re-imagined in 1992" - From wiki.

I'll have to check this one out, but I don't have high hopes.

I'll agree that Chronicle is fantastic, but Push kinda fell flat. Great world and premise, but it just didn't deliver.
