Has anyone been using the acinitiates site for the unlockables? I want to get the missions and ship stuff but I don't want to play AC 3 for missions before I finish the Ezio trilogy. (currently playing the games for the first time)

The unlockables aren't even available yet- they're supposed to come out in the next couple of weeks, iirc.

Picked this up three days ago, love it so far. My one major gripe is with the Kenway's Fleet mechanic-it sounds like it should be similar to sending recruits on missions in previous games, but for some reason it requires you to be online, thus barring me from utilizing it since my xbox isn't hooked up to internet. There are other things in the single-player campaign that are "social" and understandably need internet, but Kenway's Fleet has no legit reason to demand xbox live from what I can tell. So, I've sent dozens of ships to join my fleet, but I can't access it at all right now.

It's part of Ubisoft's fierce and noble crusade against pirates... heh irony. That and to take advantage of online somehow I guess. Speaking of, did anyone participate in the multiplayer event this last weekend?

How much is the focus on piracy versus the assassin stuff? I've never liked AC that much, and while I'm willing to give it another shot, my interest here is solely in the piracy aspect of gameplay.

You only get a title, some skins in multiplayer, and a few avatars for playstation if you post on their forum. I figured why not, all I needed was one quick game. Oh and it was announced on the main menu of the game as well as the What's new section of your PS3.

You might be. I'm waiting until after the nextgen consoles have dropped to decide what system I want to get it on. 360? PS4? PC? Time will tell.

    Also, backtracking just a tad:
You can go fuck yourself. The respawn mechanic in Bioshock is plot-motherfucking-significant. It's your first big clue as to the major twist of the game. It's also justified in-universe, and it makes the game feel more dystopic than it would have been by cheapening the value of life, much like how the New-U stations in Borderlands 1 did, back before Burch decided to pretend that they're non-canon, even though they are.

They could've alluded to the fact that you're

    Ryan's son
in another way. They didn't have to be cloning pods, they could've just been medical stations that were bio-locked. And the cheapening of life thing is exactly my problem with it. Considering all the other dystopic elements of Rapture, I maintain that it's unnecessary. Though there's at least one solution for it I guess: don't die.

You know Raine, you could at least try to not fly off the handle and toss out insults in every video game discussion on this site.

EDIT: Forgot, sorry. Also tried to edit to be less inflammatory.

....I really shouldn't complain about spoilers for a game that's almost a decade old but fuck, I literally just bought that for the PSN Halloween sale.

Edit: Whatever it IS 8 years old.

Then you missed the point of Rapture. Completely. How your death is managed is a plot point in every Bioshock game. Maybe you haven't noticed that, but they're going for something called "immersion."

A game actually bothers to explain the one-up system in a plausible manner, and you're taking a shit on it and saying it should have been "more video-gamey."

Well it is a video game. Remember how trying to be less video-gamey led to ME3's ending, with the total lack of a final boss or gameplay climax or anything of that sort? Same with Bioshock Infinite. I can't say that's what I'd like to see more of.

I would take a lack of boss fights if it meant getting the same, giant with very obvious weaknesses bosses. Its why I enjoyed Arkham Origins deathstroke fight.

Do you want me to go on a ten thousand word rant about exactly what was wrong with Mass Effect 3, and how hilariously wrong "it failed because it was less video-gamey" is?

Because I will totally derail the thread and waste everyone's time doing that.

Then don't see it. You didn't say "I'm not a fan of Bioshock because it explained the respawn mechanic." You articulated that this was something that was wrong with Bioshock. You even elaborated on it further in your followup. This was a mistake, something that they should not have done.

Nuh uh. Nope. I'm not going to let that slide. You can talk down about a game in regards to something that is legitimately, objectively wrong about it. If you want to talk shit about Bioshock, you can bring up the fact that the game forces you to switch between a weapon using stance and a Plasmid stance. That sucked, made combat clunky, and was remedied in 2 and refined further in Infinite. That's something that was wrong with Bioshock.

"I don't like that they explained the respawn" isn't something that's wrong with Bioshock. That's something that runs against your personal taste. You don't get to complain about that. That's not something that's wrong with anything. I don't like peas in any shape or form, but that doesn't make them objectively flawed. If someone were to ask me about peas, I would say that I don't like them, but I would not call them stupid, because I am not eight years old.

That's why I told you to go fuck yourself. That's why I will continue to tell you to go fuck yourself. Because that's a degree of self-centered-ness that has progressed to the point of being actively obnoxious.

And while I'm telling you to go fuck yourself? You can go fuck yourself for this, too.

"It's just a VIDEO GAME you guys! IT NEEDS TO BE MORE LIKE A VIDEO GAME. If it isn't more like a video game, then it will OBVIOUSLY FAIL. JUST LOOK AT THIS OTHER THING THAT FAILED FOR COMPLETELY DIFFERENT REASONS."

Yeah. Because art is always at it's best when it's plain vanilla and knows it's place. It should never try to improve itself or become a self-contained narrative. Immersion is a lie. People would never be interested in that sort of thing. A video game giving a plausible reason for respawning after death and making it a key plot point in the narrative? What a mistake. Anything that breaks convention or tries to be more of an experience than an arcade game is clearly barking up the wrong tree.

It's like you're begging for someone to tell you to go fuck yourself. I'm not sure if you're even actually serious, or if this is part of some kind of weird online social experiment. You can't actually believe that Mass Effect 3 failed because, of all reasons, it tried to be less like a video game, and you cannot seriously believe that was a problem with Bioshock, either.

    Also, to stay on topic:

This is a friendly reminder on how badly we need a Feudal Japan Assassin's Creed game where the Assassins are ninjas and the Templars are a Samurai conspiracy.

Stealth/10, would throw eggs filled with powdered glass and paprika at somebody's eyes before shiving them and hiding the body in a koi pond.

I can talk about whatever the fuck I want, and it's fucking rich that you're calling me self-centered when you're trying to dictate what I'm allowed to like. Not to mention blowing a comment I made half a year ago up into a stupid argument in the first place.

Also, there's nothing fucking objective about this kind of thing. Everything comes down to personal preference.

All I ask of this game is that it works on a PC better than ACIII did. Framerate drops in Boston and -insane- framerate drops in any Winter map damn near made the game unplayable. And did make the DLC unplayable.
