I'm pretty sure I'll get laughed right off the site for this thread and I'll have to go weep into a bowl of ice cream to help me get over it once you shame me. But I'd like some opinions from you guys on this, because I know for a fact the majority of you are better writers than me.

I get alot of wild fanfiction ideas, what avid fanfiction reader/writer doesn't? This one had been bugging me for a while so I started re-watching all season of Digimon and began building up plot piece by piece.

Mind you, I've not got it all planned it. But for the part 1 of the story that would occur during Harry's summer between first and second year and then continue on through his 2nd, 3rd and 4th years I've got alot planned out.

I'm sure you noticed the other two threads I made in the past couple of days and just to confirm it, yes they were made with reference to this fic idea.

Anyway, the question is if I can get this right and sell it properly to you guys would you believe it could be worth it to write? Either way, I'll probably go through with it anyway but it would be good to have some of you to bounce some ideas off of for it. Especially when it comes to some parts in Harry Potter canon that I'm leery on or can't remember aswell as I would like.

    Anyway, I'll give a brief summary of the premise of the story to see if you guys would like what's explained in this vague summary;

Harry isn't going to be a part of the digi-destined. He's a glorified loner for the most part due to a few select things. That being that Harry is basically Azulongmon's backup plan. Where as the digi-destined are the A team Harry is basically the B team all on his own.

And unlike the digi-destined who had their digivices and crests crafted especially for them and their Digimon specially picked. Harry will only have an upgraded version of the digivice and it would be up to him to find his partner on his own.

His partner digimon I decided on being Gazimon who will go through the digivolution line to Devidramon and Champion and then end with Gigdramon on Ultimate.

And where as the digi-destined started on file island where the strongest thing around was Devimon who despite his strength was only a champion level Digimon. Harry is going to crash land dead in the middle of the server continent. Where powerful Ultimate digimon under the command of Etamon and Myotismon are always on the prowl for the sight of the human children/digi-destined. And because of that, they are always on Harry's heels and are looking to kill him at first chance.

It's going to be a much rougher experience for him in comparison with the digi-destined. It isn't going to be like Agumon digivolving to Greymon and owning Shellmon and saving them all. Gazimon is gonna digivolve into Devidramon and get his ass kicked anyway. That, and while the digi-destined are all in a big group Harry is alone except for Gazimon.

Devidramon after first digivolving will be comparable to the lowliest fodder Champion digimon in Myotismon's army. And Harry and Gazimon/Devidramon will have to slowly gain power with each enemy they defeat.

Gazimon is only going to be able to digivolve because of Harry's magic. But it takes alot of magic to make Gazimon digivolve in the first place. I'm not sure Taure will be happy with this kand of theory. but I'm going by the logic that Harry is as much magic as he is flesh and blood. So when he gives his magic to make Gazimon digivolve he is giving up his own life force. And while over time he can regain it. If he say had Gazimon digivolve to many times in one day he would end up dying from alot of symptoms and one of them being sheer exhaustion.

I plan on incorporating alot of other digimon series like Tamers in this. For instance Harry's digivice will look alot like the D-tectors from Digimon Frontier, yet it will have a info storage on it like the one from Tamers and be able to store Gazimon in it to hide him when they eventually make it back to the real world. That and the majority of the digimon Harry and Gazimon defeat aren't going to be reborn at primary village because they are going to have Gazimon absorb the data to become stronger. Which will in turn lead to butting heads with the digi-destined who for the most part think Harry is an evil 'digi-destined' because to them it looks like he's killing digimon to have his digimon partner steal their power, that and the digimon line of Gazimon-Devidramon-Gigadramon are all quite known for more often than not being evil digimon. It's kinda not fair in Harry if you think about it, it isn't like he's been given a super crest that makes his Digimon badass. He has to give up parts of his life-force just to have his digimon reach Champion, never mind Ultimate.

...Anyway. I'm rambling now. That's just a small part of what I've already got planned for this fic. Would you guys be interested in reading a fic like that/

Why should Harry have to give up his magic/life-force to empower Gazimon? What is restricting him from tapping the same vague-abstract power that encourages evolution for the regular children? So long as he has a digivice it shouldn't be an issue - and yeah, I read what you said about a modified D-Tector with storage capabilities, but honestly, I don't think incorporating that concept is a good idea.

I'd advise sticking with the regular old digivice style, or maybe a digivice 01, which offers item storage capabilities. You could stretch that to say it can also hold a wounded partner digimon so long as its otherwise emptied of other items.

It sounds like you're trying to handicap Harry when he already will have a hard enough time of things. Will he have any of his regular items - Invisibility Cloak, wand? Wand probably wouldn't be of much use as a post-1st year student, but at least he has a few spells that might be able to save their bacon in a dicey situation.

I probably would not read this if you keep it as-is. I want to read it, but that advanced-digivice-mashup-thingy is the big turn off.

I just don't see how Harry Potter and Digimon can possibly mix in any cohesive sense. The incorporation of taming destroys everything Harry Potter. Where is the magic when Harry is just calling out attacks for his Digimon to perform? Where is the threat when his Digimon is just a compilation of data that can reform into another birth cycle? I understand that you want to make magic a source for digivolution, but that's not what we want to see when Harry Potter is fighting for his life...

Actually. The info bank is just to level him with the digi-destined because Izzy's laptop once they reach server can get information on any and all digimon thanks to Gennai. And it's not an item storage ability, it's to store Gazimon in when they are in the human world, he can't just walk around England with him out and about, granted I doubt magicals will care all that much but what about muggles? Again granted if he could perform a notice-me-not charm it wouldn't be a problem but I'm pretty sure that's a bit too advanced to be expecting of him.

As for the handicp, kinda yes and kinda no. He'll have his wand and there's quite a few useful spells I found in the first year textbooks so I'm just going by the logic that since Harry has finished his first year he knows them all to atleast some degree. As for the digivolution thing. They can all only digivolve thanks to the aspects of their crests and all had their partners chosen for them before birth, the best ones to fit with them. Gazimon and Harry are only going to be partners at first in the sense that they got thrown into it together. The better aquainted they became, the more they began to trust each other the easier it would be on Harry to make him digivolve.

I'm not just going to have Harry hiding behind Gazimon and calling attacks. This isn't Pokemon. The digimon working for Myotismon will be out to kill Harry, so him learning to protect himself with the limited amount of spells he knew is something that he would need to work on. The only 5 spells I can rationalize him knowing that's combat able are Fumos -the smokescreen charm, Flipendo - the knockback jinx, Incendio, Diffindo aad Locomotor Motis - the leg locking curse. The first 4 are in his textbooks and Locomotor Motis is a spell Ron and Hermione learned to attack Snape with if he tried to 'jinx' Harry's broom 'again', so I rationalized Harry learned it along side them.

The digi-destined are going to have it easier in comparison for the first while because they are in a big group with digimon that are perfect matches for them on an island where the strongest thing around is a champion level. Harry is going to be fighting for his life the near enough minute he lands in the digital world forcing him to rely on all his skill, cunning and sheer tenacity to survive against creatures that make Fluffy look like a fluffy puppy in comparison.

It's not like I'm gonna make the digimon far superior to wizards or the like. Personally, I could see Dumbledore taking down the entire digi-destineds team of ultimates himself. Gazimon isn't gonna be Harry's quick-fix to taking down Voldemort because Voldemort has the skill and power to kill him in any of his forms.

Also, it's gonna be far more risky than Gazimon just being reborn. To be reborn his data needs to reach primary village or take residence somewhere else to reform like with Harry. But Myotismon wants the digi-destined taken care of permanently so the data of Gazimon would be destroyed if they killed him. Or hell, even absorbed because Gazimon isn't the only one who's going to be absorbing data. In canon, Myotismon kicks the crap out of 7 ultimates that are all very powerful for ultimates, them being the likes of Metalgreymon and Weregarurumon. Especially since MetalGreymon is a vaccine type meaning his attacks are especially effective on a virus type like Myotismon. It would explain just why he is so powerful in comparison with already very powerful Ultimates.

I wouldn't think so. Atleast not until I actually have more of the fic written. This was just supposed to be few general questions.

Actually since you're talking about a plot bunny, this could have gone in the plotbunny thread here or you can create a new thread in the Fanfic discussion page as we are talking about elements of a fanfic, regardless of whether it will be written or not. General discussion is more for things like discussing canon, or watching Taure rant about Magical Theory or things of a general nature.

Not for plot bunnies and such really, though I see what you're getting at, the problem is that theses aren't really "general" questions so much as a pointed question on a specific subject of fanfiction.

I'm not trying to be an asshat, just trying to help. Unfortunately I don't know enough about Digimon to comment more than that I'd be willing to try it once.

List of moderators appear at the bottom of the forum page (ie. at the bottom of the page which lists all the threads).

What do you plan to do with Harry returning to Earth? Do you plan to have him return to the digimon world? How does he even end up in the digimon world? Why won't wizards care about his digimon?

I don't quite understand what the story is going to be. It looks like it is entirely based around digimon world, with you dropping the Harry Potter plots. How will the story be different with Harry's incorporation with the rest of the digi-destined?

I'm having a tough time imagining these worlds mixing without knowing how you're doing it, or what happens to the two different stories.

I'm not going to be dropping Harry in and just having him follow the canon events. As far as he's concerned he's the back-up plan, the B team as in not as in important as the digi-destined in the grand scheme. He's basically a half-assed attempt from the likes of Gennai and Azulongmon to have a back up plan in case the digi-destined fail.

But the one thing Harry does have over the digi-destined is that he will know who all the enemies are in advance. Devimon, Etamon and Myotismon are basically the small fries who the digi-destined stumble into alot. Harry will already have the knowledge that the Dark Masters are working from the shadows to rule the digital world.

I'm not really wanting to give away to much of the plot. But I'm fine with revealing a few things. his experiences in the digital world between first and second year will mature him quite a bit because he will be fighting for his life with nobody but himself and Gazimon to rely on every step of the way.

Digimon and the digital world are data that have taken on life. But there's really no explanation as to how they took on life. My idea is that magic is life and because of magic, the data began to take on a life of it's own. Digimon are made of data and magic, and through both aspects evolved beyond mere data and magic until they became real living creatures with innate abilities that stemmed from the magic, i.e the ability to breath fire and digivolve.

The digital world arc is only going to be for the first part of the story. I have two 'books' you could say. The first is Harry first being brought to the digital world and then will go through to the end of his fourth year and the rebirth of Voldemort.

The second book would basically be about the Digimon 02 season and Harry's 5-7th years leading up to the final battle with Voldemort and enemies behind the scenes from the digital world looking to take advantage of everything and anything they can. It sounds like I'm doing a rehash of canon, but I'm really not because I'm going to be changing up alot of it and stray far away from canon.

I can say with confidence that the magical world will end up deeply intertwined with the happenings of the digital world though. If you'd like to know more I'll explain in more detail if you don't mind spoilers that is.

I watched Digimon as a kid through to the end (or thereabouts) of the first generation of Digi-Destined (Agumon and co.), so my knowledge of the entire world is limited, but it seems to me that giving Harry his own digimon might be lacking as a way to combine the worlds. I like that you have Harry traveling alone, without other humans, but I rather like the idea of Harry being truly alone, either as a wizard using his magic in that world as a substitute for a digivolving companion, or by being something of a digimon himself (magic being his power). He wouldn't digivolve, per say, but his magic would grow stronger over time, as he learned more about himself/magic/the world.

This is primarily because HP magic, even if it's just well-used first-year spells, is kind of a world-breaker. Harry acting as a lone wizard or with magic as his only power, growing to the limits we see in canon (Dumbledore and Voldemort) is probably enough to make it by. For instance, it's hard to see Voldemort with or relying upon any correspondent digimon in response to Harry's use of one, or to see Harry relying upon or granting magic to his digimon as a way of facing Voldemort.

As the digiverse equivalent of a wizard, his evolved forms could bring him closer in ability (and perhaps even appearance) to the kind of wizard we perceive in figures like Dumbledore, or Gandalf if you'd like to generalize about bearded master wizards.

The thing for me would be to make the story about Harry himself, not Harry's digimon, or Harry and his digimon.

That's an interesting concept. But because I'm making it that the digimon became living, breathing beings because of magic. The stronger they are, the more resistant to pure magical attacks like Reducto and Avada Kedavra they become.

And I don't really want Harry to 'digivolve' to become better overall. The time he spends in the digital world and how little he feels he can do to the likes of Myotismon without having to rely so much on Gazimon is a vital part to his maturing and him bettering himself once he finally leaves the digital world.

Say Harry went up against Metalgreymon. Spells like Reducto and Incendio and stuff would barely tickle a defensive and massive powerhouse like it. But Dumbledore? He could conjure waves of water to crash into it, freeze it over with nary a flick of his wand and then conjure massive and sturdy chains to bind it and leave it helpless on the ground.
