Also just had a thought. What if all these interval movies about the Avengers are all happening fairly close to each other? Each of them are like, "Where the fuck were you man?" only to find out their buddies were dealing with their own shit at the same time.

Well, Captain America 2 was specifically set 2 years after Avengers, whilst it was kinda implied that Iron Man 3 was just after it. Thor 2 was in space and shit so it doesn't really matter.

My theater cut the after credits scene. So I didn't give their 3-D glasses back.

Stark wasn't there to help because he was mingling at a birthday party for Pierce's nephew or something. Was it nephew or niece I can't remember.

Iron Man 3 is set a full year after the Avengers. Tony even says that "It's been a year since New York. I keep having nightmares."

They didn't imply. The director they got for the Doctor Strange movie outright stated it would happen, because that's his personal interpretation of the character.

And it's not controversial. It's a character-ruining fuckup of Biblical proportions. This is "we decided Godzilla would be able to talk in the next movie" bad. This is Shia Lebouff being the face of the Transformers as directed by Michael Bay bad.

Don't think it would be that bad? Don't see it as really being a problem, do you?

Take ten minutes out of your time to read this from top to the bottom of the Infinity Gauntlet segment. Feel free to skim, that's perfectly fine.

YOU tell ME how they're going to be able to do his origin and career justice without magic OR him being an asshole doctor of medicine specifically.

Because the whole fucking point of his character, literally the whole fucking point of his character, is that he starts out being Gregory House with a side-order of extra dick, and by the end of it becomes Gandalf. Literally 9/10ths of his villain roster are DEMONS. The rest are EVIL MAGIC USERS.

All the major character development that made him interesting was possible because he was a doctor of medicine, and people he cared about kept dying around him and he couldn't do anything about it. It was this exact thing that lead to his change of heart from being a selfish asshole to a selfless hero. It was being a person who made a career in a field that saves lives watching people he loved die that made him change his ways and seek something else besides material wealth and gain.

If you take away the magic and give him a doctorate in quantum mechanics, what do you have that's left to work with? What's he going to do, become emotionally bereaved because his interns failed to turn in their spreadsheets on time? If they're just making him another Tony Stark or Banner, where is the catalyst for his change? He's just going to keep right on being an asshole alone in a laboratory somewhere. People he cares about dying doesn't have the same impact as it did when he was an actual fucking doctor, because he's a quantum physicist. They don't save lives. Why should he feel especially bad about their deaths?

You know what else quantum physicists don't really care about? Their hands. So there goes the iconic fucking accident as well. Loss of fine motor skill means shit-all when most of your work is done on paper or a keyboard.

This isn't just a bad idea, this is the worst possible idea. This isn't 'changing the character' or being 'novel.' Novel retelling was Tony Stark saying "fuck it, I am Iron Man."

This is them trying to retell the story of Stephen Strange without the Ancient One, without Mordo, without Dormammu, without his collapse from respected surgeon to homeless bum, and most importantly, WITHOUT MAGIC.

That's not Stephen Strange anymore. That's not the Sorcerer Supreme. It's kind of hard to be a Sorcerer of any capacity when MAGIC DOESN'T FUCKING EXIST.

"Oh hey, I have an idea for the Captain America movie! Let's make Captain America black. And a woman. And have him born in the eighties, because the freezing thing is silly. And instead of the super soldier stuff, let's make her psychic. And ditch the shield. That would be a fantastic Captain America."

"Okay, the skin color and possibly the gender I'll give you, but if you take away the World War II angle and the shield, it's not really-"

    "ARTISTIC INTEGRITY!"

I'm going to stop now. I could keep going on, but I won't.

    I could. But I won't.

    But I really, really could.

For reference, when I said this

this is what I meant by 'careful mentioning it'.

For what it's worth, I agree with you Raine. A Dr Strange movie without magic would be a ridiculously bad idea. I was just issuing a general warning that bringing it up would be a bad idea, due to it being a sore spot with a lot of fans. See exhibit A above. Also, this is in fact the Captain America 2 thread, so while it's always a pleasure to read your creative rage, it didn't really seem the place for it.

    With that said...

Quote from Kevin Feige about magic in the film, which seems to imply that it's more about Dr Strange trying to figure out how magic works than it not being magic. Out of curiousity, who do you think is directing? Because a quick Google suggests that they're still shortlisting. Certainly, a search for 'dr strange movie quantum physics' only brought up articles quoting Feige (who is one of the head honchos of the MCU, not a director).

Anyone remember that movie sorcerer's apprentice, it had Nickolas Cage, they claimed that magic was a kind of science, yet at the same time they claimed that it could allow them to travel through mirrors. I suppose if taken from that perspective, steven strange could have magic and it be a kind of science.
I doubt that Hydra was behind every bad guys, but i bet some of them were noticed by hydra and they simply turned a blind eye.
I have an idea about how to restore the winter soldier's memories, it will either go well or go really bad. IN M:AOS, SHIELD has recovered an asguardian artifact known as the berserker staff, it empowers those that touch it, also it unburies meories that are buried to fuel the anger and rage. Bucky has had all his memories taken from him, and he used to be a good man, so if all his memories were returned, that would give him alot of rage. SO he would either get his memories back, or go into a berserker rage with even more powerful superstrength.
So as they dont own the xmen, the twins are not mutants, instead they are mutates. One o the theories about mutants, that they were part created by the use and testing of nuclear weapons. Since hydra was using the tesseract in the war, my bet is the large scale use of it was going to create mutants. now it turns out the tesseract can create mutates. If the tesseract can give powers, will jane foster eventually develop powers?

    I am Exhibit A, bitches.

But yeah. Really good movie, enjoyed it immensely. It's up there with Iron Man 3 and the Avengers as one of the best Marvel movies they've put out yet. I'm not sure whether or not they're setting the Cap up to get killed, but there's certainly some hints. They could also do a curveball and fake us out, it could go either way.

I understand the nature of the beast, insofar as they cannot use Mutants because Muh Sony, but honestly, I'm pretty okay with that. Even though the X-Men were the Marvel workhorse for a long time, they've become progressively shittier and more unlikable over time, particularly recently, and I'm completely fine with the X-Men collectively not showing up.

That being said, I think casting Wanda and Pietro as Hydra experiments is a clever way of getting them into the game without crossing any copyright lines. I'm completely fine with them being a product of Nazi science and quasi-mysticism.

I also like that they passingly acknowledged the existence of many more "isolated cells," which is a great way to crack the door open for any number of justifications and plot points in the future. Is Hydra keeping Wade Wilson locked up somewhere? How about "the wolverine?" They gave themselves a lot of elbow room to work with in the first stinger, and I can appreciate that.

I'm glad to hear that they're still in negotiations with Sony for Spiderman. If any two people need to cameo in an Avengers film, it's Peter and Logan, and Peter much moreso. That's been a long, long time coming, and it needs to happen. I hope they can get it done.

I'm starting to really look forward to Age of Ultron. We still have what? One Hulk movie before it gets done? I'm kind of excited for it, to be honest. I really like Ruffalo as Banner, and it would be nice to see him take center stage in his own movie.

I wonder if we might see instead of a hulk movie, we get she hulk, or possibly a gamma enhanced doc sampson, the creation of the red hulks possibly.
