I personally haven't done shit, because I've never trusted these sites as far as I could throw them, even in the beginning, but may as well give anyone who DOES give two shits some sort of tool.

 

Actually, fun fact: no one has provided a citation or screenshot of someone threatening Zoe or Sarkessian with death. They've claimed to have been inundated with such threats, but refuse to provide screenshots to prove it. Anita actually did, and used the pics to push for more people do donate to her Patreon, but motherfucking /pol/ of all places used their Google-Fu and basic knowledge of timezones to prove that she had issued the threat to herself using an alt account. That alt account has since been deleted and Anita hasn't provided her version of the screenshots again, though the copies of her shots have been making rounds as proof that she's a lying attention whore.

No one we know of has actually threatened to kill Zoe Quinn or Anita Sarkeesian, in spite of what they say to the contrary, and we have caught at least one of them lying and faking death threats to try and make money off of it.

First of all, 4chan is hardly united. Literally every single board has a different culture associated with it. Painting the entirety of it with one brush is beyond absurd.

Hell, the people Zoe attacked with her initial false allegations are from Wizardchan. It's literally a 4chan extension that is comprised entirely of socially anxious and shy nerds talking about how much they love Disney. Disney. That's all they talk about, and it's all they care about. I suspect you might find them to be something of a kindred spirit, people from Dark Lord Potter. These are people comparing the Lion King to Sleeping Beauty and waxing poetic about how much they want a Tangled or Frozen attraction to open up at Disney World.

They're about as liable to dox and threaten to rape someone as an elderly narcoleptic sheep dog, which is why it's so absurd Zoe went with them to weave her narrative of abuse. It's obvious she picked them because she assumed nobody would care about them or know who they were, and thus no one would be able to contradict her. It would be her word against theirs, and who is going to believe a bunch of smelly virgin internet nerds over a strong feminist game developer, right?

That kind of fucking backfired, though, because people did know who they were, and it pissed off some of the other nerds to see the nerd equivalent of a harmless twelve year old going to his first day of primary school be set upon and beaten with a stick for someone else's profit. It's been proven by Wizardchan and others looking into the issue that this initial harassment Zoe claimed happened never actually took place.

Secondly, /v/ is doing this out of the goodness of their hearts. There was a whole lot of talk about withdrawing funding support from TFYC when they made peace with Zoe Quinn several days ago. Ultimately, it was decided that withdrawing support would not only look bad, it would also 'be' bad, because this is about video games, not money, and the real issue is about journalistic corruption, not Zoe Quinn. Withdrawing the money isn't just counterproductive to the goal of acquiring actual integrity and professionalism in the industry, it's also letting Zoe Quinn win, because she's an attention whore and is trying to make this all about her, when nothing could be further from the truth. This has nothing to do with her. The five guys are what matters, not the girl who gave them blowjobs.

Pulling the money would be descending to her level. And this isn't about her.

If /v/ was only in this for vindictiveness or revenge, or was the hate machine some people are claiming it is, the donations TFYC received from them would have been refunded. Not only have they not been, but more money is coming in.

TotalBiscuit started out defending Zoe, then he dug more and decided to remain neutral, though he's erring on the side of the gamers more as time goes on, because the SJWs are shitting all over him.

Yahtzee is pretending to be neutral, but he isn't. He's with the gamers, and has admitted as much. He just doesn't want to publicly declare, because he doesn't think the Escapist is going to survive this, and he wants to get picked up by somebody else when this whole fiasco settles down. I don't blame him for that, it's his livelihood.

I didn't even know what wizardchan was before this. Also, Sarkeesian faking harassment is nothing new, all these idiots just get off on the attention, bad or good.

 

I do wish he would do more parody songs, they usually are pretty damn good. Nice that he managed to be snarky with both sides of the discussion and remain relatively neutral with this at the same time.

Shame that the relevant discussion of game journalism corruption and overall lack of ethics in reporting has been lost in the shitstorm. I'm more than slightly curious just how long this can continue before we start seeing it either fall apart due to people not caring or turn reporting on its head.

I don't see how 'many' which is not, in fact, 'all', is somehow now defined as the fullness of an entire group and not just a casual way of referring to a significantly large number of. In fact, in the writing of that post, I specifically changed it away from the word 'most', because I didn't want to use too broad a brush.

Just because it depresses/ annoys/ infuriates you (as it does me) doesn't make it any less true.

I kind of lost my detached amusement though when that bit about that random indie game dev coming out on twitter and accusing ZQ of sexually assaulting him at a wedding. He was then shut down by Phil Fish, not even by calling him a liar?

I say an aside because it has nothing to do with the overarching issues here, and big surprise, Fish is a dickhead, but that really stood out as especially egregious to me- along with that woman's charity being shut down.
