Imagine for a moment that you are given the power to retroactively make any one movie a flop of laughable proportions.

This is a one-time-only deal, so choose wisely.

Also, please provide reasons for your choice. I'm interested what people here have to say.

Myself, I'd cause the movie Avatar to flop disastrously, therefore minimizing the influence of 3D in movies.

I mean, imagine today's cinema if Avatar had little influence.

Another interesting choice could be trying to destroy the superhero genre and see the results.

Perhaps by "Flopping" Batman (1989) or Superman (1978). Batman followed the disaster which was Superman 4 and likely would have made Hollywood nervous for a while with two of the biggest names in comic books bombing. Superman bombing would have stopped the superhero seed from ever getting planted.

Tough choice really. I have films in mind, "Frozen", "Avengers", "Iron Man", and other capeshit amongst others, but nothing that really stands out. Is there one film in particular that's responsible for starting off the "Everything must be done with CGI" craze?

Probably Star Wars since it proved you can sell a movie through visual effects exclusively. If it hadn't been for Star Wars, visual effects maybe would take the backseat and used to enhance the qualities of a movie without taking the spotlight and showing off all that cool stuff they can do with render farms.
