Is there any easy way to get started writing. I have several ideas but have difficulty fleshing them out into real stories.

    1. Have an idea.
    2. Prepare your writing implement of choice.
    3. Start writing.

    That really is it.

Once you've started, there's all sorts of things you can do. Read tonnes of books to study good prose, join writing groups, take a writing class, submit to the WbA...but the first step? Just write. Harder than it sounds, yes, but there it is.

    You start writing.

I'm not being fictitious, or clever. I've been writing as a point of pride for 12 years, and the only easy option is to attempt to turn your ideas into stories.

Here's the rub. Your ideas won't be reflected on the page. You could have a crystal clear original idea - Harry Potter Mk II - and it won't translate what you want to that page. But now and again it'll be close.

There's no easy writing. There's just writing. You wouldn't expect to easily learn the piano, to pick up a guitar and start strumming Sweet Child O' Mine.

You have to earn that ease. And it comes from sitting down and punching keys.

I just start writing and see if the story takes me anywhere. Lots and lots of snippets that never go anywhere.

I would say maybe 1 in 10 of the stories I write actually go anywhere.

Here's what you do: Don't start writing.

    See what I did there?
