Because I know that many people have stumbled across similar websites, was wondering what the most rediculous proof of the evil-ness of Harry Potter, by bible thumping standards not ours, you've seen is.

^I really thought that was enough to get the ball rolling in itself^

^I didn't really know how to react to that, I mean seriously, who relates Harry Potter to "hunger for power"^

Well, all jokes aside (as far aside as they can be in this thread), I find it hilarious that someone can relate a story of the triumph of good over evil to a psychopath that walks the streets at night looking to suck somebody's blood because mr. charismatic cult leader told him to.

Disclaimer: there where 1458 so called "results" to my search, I do not claim to have read all of them, a similar post may already exist. I thuroughly believe that it was worth the possible neg reps to get a response to this incase one did not exist. Sacrifice for the greater good and all that rot, right?

To be honest, the second I saw your name as the latest post I thought I was going to get chewed out for double posting. Instead you made me fall out of my chair laughing because I know priests that would both side with him, and hold day long seminars condemning him.

Bah. These over-evangelical christians are fools. By their logic, we should have no leaders, as power leads to the devil. I just ignore fools like those, anyone so close-minded that they look for things to condemn is not someone I wish to affiliate with.

not to say that your responses haven't been heartening, enlightening, side splitting, enrapturing, and most probably subliminally damning, I was looking more for quotes than anything else. Anyway, I see this post falling into obvlivion. Should I say goodbye to it now?

Christian groups are like cornered animals, desperate, clawing and resorting to any means to survive.

There isn't anything better to do other than bitch about popular books?

I'm waiting for something along the lines of: "The Series of Unfortunate Events books are an example to everyone that pedophilia is a terrible thing, and that being unhappy in life will bring happiness later on. Jesus went through the same thing..."

On a lighter note, remember that obese cow from Trading Spouses or whichever show that was?

    "Everything's ungodly!"

Didn't all you people know? It's a conspiracy. JKR is in cahoots with Satan himself. Harry is actually Satan and the HP verse is the life story of lil' Satan. Soon he is going to........

    Prime-time Bullshit, is it not?

On a lighter note, damn Gio you made quite a name for yourself haven't you?

I don't get these people and being a christian myself, am continuously finding myself disgusted with them.

These people probably aren't real certified preachers, and it just enrages me to see this.

So in retrospect, they're saying that all the things the bible says are the words of the devil? Wtf? Because I can see a few good examples to support my faith in these 'devil worship manuals'

Respect thy neighbor. -unity of the houses

Don't submit to evil. -First and fourth book where Voldy offers power/parents

And numerous others I'm not going to be bothered to search for.

These people need to grow up and realize that in the real world their +10 armlet of holiness won't save them from that bus hurtling down the street. And that they can't go blaming shit as 'evil' just to get off on their own self-righteousness.

Sorry if this came out in-coherent, I'm in a bit of pain and can't think to clearly.

Actually I have read quite a bit of this coming from ordained ministers and the like. All of us are lucky that you are not one of those condemning everything on sight. But remember history and even present day, it is not necessary for someone to be 'ordained' or 'certified' to be thought a preacher. As long as there are enough fools (and there is always an abundance) to follow the neighborhood righteous wagon driver there will be 'preachers' spouting their dogma.

Something anecdotal to add to the topic. I am friends with a preacher's daughter (...heh I could go so many places with that;) ) and he grounded his sons and took away their Harry Potter books because he found the two idiots playing with wands made out of sticks they had found in the backyard. A bit extreme, but he believed they were getting too enamored with witchcraft.

I personally just think that it is another manifestation of "fear of the unknown" in that they are those who center their lives around their religion (which I happen to believe is admirable on many, but not all, levels). I think that they fear the human's inane weakness to the almighty "fad" and are scared that their own is due to take a back seat like last years jeans (salesman from Family Guy anyone?). I would really like to hear what their God says to them on their Judgement Day "well I'd let you in...but...you see...you guys were bigoted assholes and while blind faith is all well and good sometimes, you guys just took it too far...so...bye then!"...if only they believed in second chances...

That would be cool though. You sure as hell would get a lot more people interested in becoming ministers if God took a personal roll in it.

I once had a chance to skim through some HP-condemning books. A pedagogics professor held a course for future teachers about "using Harry Potter at school" and - to inform about possible parental anxieties - he also dealt with Potter bashing. I eventually didn't attend the seminar as several hundred students tried to enter, but I skimmed through the announced literature.

A link for Germans: Literatur Uni Hannover

There were four or five books critizising and bashing Harry Potter (examples for the rest of that shit):

Two allegdedly impartial authors tried to analyse the entire series. They seemed to have read the entire series (1-4 or 1-5). They hailed the effect that children actually start to read something but of course they discovered severe anti-christian hints. Both advised parents to be cautious. Children might read the books but the parents should read them themselves and later speak with the children about the perilous elements.

I categorise these two books as written for very religious parents who might have moral issues, because Harry Potter describes something they have been taught to be evil.

The other two or three authors simply bashed everything they found. One or two gave an outline of the series and pointed towards some explicit satanic elements (Harry Potter is lying!). The last, Gabriele Kuby had a chapter by chapter analysis of book five. The German book at amazon.de

It was obvious she hadn't read the book and especially hadn't understood the plot and theme of the series. Instead she just had put together some random pieces out of each chapter. Her closure (backcover of the book): "Harry Potter destroys the ability to differ between good and evil and tears down the inhibition against Magic."
The whole thing appears as a serious analysis, and religious parents, who are seeking for advice, are scared off of Harry Potter.

    I remember:
Harry and Sirius live in a house full of Dark Magic with the heads of House Elves at the wall. The author deliberately omitted or hadn't read that both Sirius and Harry despised the house.
Harry writes using his own blood - usually a vital part of satanic cults. No word that he was forced to use the quill by an evil character.
Harry inside the head of a Snake bites Arthur Weasley.
    And So On ...

There is no chance to discuss with people, who bash either for fun or based on deep-rooted prejudices. They don't need "facts" to prove their statements. They don't even need to deal with the books. They just need some few elements (dark magic or magic at all) and they find their point of view confirmed. They turn every word against you, and arguments they can't turn against you are ignored.

The best is to ignore the whole stuff - at least as long as you aren't a teacher who wants to use Harry Potter at school (then you have to deal with the parents who actually read and believe in that shit).

Like creationists, these people are an insult to intelligent Christians everywhere.

If I ever meet one, I will take my God and smite them so bad they'll be reeling for months.

/me starts calling down the lightning bolts and columns of fire.

    You said something about wanting more quotes;

    Nuf' said.

But I'll round of with some bashing with quotes anyway:

(This is actually untrue, during the middle ages the church stood as the main education center and if it hadn't been for the church, universities would never have been founded)

I know that I said a "few" qoutes, but I got abit carried away =\
Ahwell... For those of you that actually read it, you'll notice that there are quotes from Jefferson, Einstein, Franklin and the classic by Lucretius.

See, the reason I find these things funny is because

    1. I'm a Christian who loves HP

    2. My mother is also a Christian and reads HP

    3. At my old school, people thought I was satanic because I read HP.

The thing I don't understand is why they make such a big deal out of something so trival. It's merely fiction and it's enjoyed by many age groups. I don't understand why they just bash HP because there are many other fictional books that have witches such like the Cruible (well mention of witchcraft), Macbeth and many other beloved classics. I mean, why haven't they tried getting the Wizard of Oz banned from schools?

Pathetic. The stupidity of people makes me wonder at times. How do these people survive in their small, sheltered lives?

Oh, fiery Lakes of DAMNATION!! I summon thee! Consume these sinful books and these WICKED, WICKED SOULS!!
