As far as I know, the only release date for the GECK so far is "early 2016"

I think it was said late January or early February for the GECK to come out. Can't remember where I heard it though so take it with a grain of salt.

Still haven't been able to play this, left my Playstation back up at uni, or the flat I live near it at anyways, so won't be able to check the game out for another 3 weeks.

That being said, what are people's thoughts on it? Any particular companions you guys like the most? Cait and Valentine seem pretty great from what I've seen on playthroughs.

I liked it a hell of a lot. It's not as good as New Vegas, but I like it above the rest. Valentine was a fun companion, as was Piper.

I don't think it added very much to Fallout in terms of its story or setting (though at least it wasn't a complete abortion like Fallout 3), but in terms of gameplay it's an improvement over 3 or New Vegas.

There are still a few issues I have with some of their design choices. And yeah, mods can fix a lot of them, but it's still Bethesda's fault.

I liked that they moved away from FO3/New Vegas's interpretation on Power Armor. Moved it from being just another armor to a walking tank. I also thought that FO4's shooter/combat/UI shit was vastly improved.

Yeah, but I don't like how they foist it on you right from the start. All the other games you could avoid it altogether.

Well, you still can. Nothing in the game forces you to go through Concord and pick up the When Freedom Calls quest re. Minutemen.

If you want to miss the quest, sure, you could. But I'm saying that when other games offered you Power Armor they also gave you alternatives. Like, Fallout 1 also let you pick a Super Sledge or a laser gun or something, and even Fallout 3 let you take a Recon Suit, I think.

I guess. I mean, sure there's not an alternative to the power armor on the roof in Concord, but all the other power armor suits and sets are on enemies or in bum fuck egypt.

Honestly, If I were to give this another playthrough (and I probably will), I would avoid the minuteman quest in concord and pretend they never exist. The next easiest way to get powerarmor after that is probably the national reserve place that has two armor, one in a small bunker than spawns a sentry bot, and another behind in a shipping container. There's also the armor in 35 custom tower or w/e it's called that spawns as x-01 armor above level 28.

Also, I used cait, piper, curie and valentine as my companions, in that order. Being a beautiful buxom survivor myself (named Anna, obv), they joys I found with Cait we're plentiful, but I think overall, Valentine was the coolest.

Next play through... yeah, gonna salvage power armor instead of being 'given it'.

Ran Valentine for quite a while on one of my characters, but siding with the Institute put me off him. I had just finished destroying the Brotherhood when he gives me this long speech about how terrible of a person I am...and then afterwards immediately acts as if everything is fine.

Spent quite some time watching him and wondering if he secretly hates me with a burning passion. Couldn't handle it, so I decided to run Curie instead.

On a more serious note: despite some of Fallout 4's curious design choices, I do like how they made the companions surprisingly likable. True, I now base my morality off of theirs, but hey, what are friends for? :p

It's quite a decent game, but for the love of God get it on PC so you can mod the damn thing.

Anyways it's perfectly alright, even if the conversation system is depressingly shitty in a way that utterly stymies any ability to roleplay (a huge reason why I play games like these, though Skyrim was hardly any better in that regard), unlike Fallout 3/NV I actually found it quite fun to play, which makes up for it to a certain extent.

I'll look forwards to the inevitable New Vegas to Fallout 4, if only because for once the gunplay is actually really really fun (even if woefully insufficient in terms of quantity of firearms, a problem nicely resolved, once again, by mods).

I'm not so sure it's inevitable, but I'd like Obsidian to make another game. Chris Avellone did leave recently, but while I like most of his work, apparently he wanted to "reset" the West Coast or something, which I strongly disagree with.

So much this. I get that weapons bench modding basically gets you all sorts of interesting versions of guns, but would it really hurt to add a few more unique models?

Just take the Deliverer: functions exactly the same as the 10mm, but still a pistol that stands out because it has a cool look to it. It has its own reload animation and model, so it's memorable - certainly more so than the dozens of pipe pistols you'll no doubt stumble over.

Wish they had concentrated more on making weapons rather than settlement building. While making your own little shanty town is a nice touch, that's not why I bought the game. I bought it to have RPG fun and collect cool-looking weapons. :<

PC users can opt into the new beta patch. They finally made an easier way to track which settlers are doing what when in workshop mode. Don't need to be collecting so many damn hats anymore \o/

edit: Melee playthrough's been stupid strong once you get past lvl 10. Str+Agi+luck run. Rooted + blitz in hilarious. Throw in idiot savant and you'll be cruising along pretty fast exp wise.

I'm waiting to see how mod support on consoles (rocking a PS4) turns out in reality.

All I want for my first run is some UI/Pip Boy changes and the full dialogue options. I'll play it if even that stuff doesn't come to consoles but I'd like to wait until we know.

I'm going to restart since I was only 11 hours in and I want to respec my character for stealth and charisma, and then roleplay the character I came up with on my first go.

Oh dont even get me started on that nonsense.

Hopefully Bethesda can pull off something like how Obsidian did with NV's DLC.

Heck, even FO3's DLC was not too bad.

The main complaint I've seen about FO4 is "wide as an ocean, shallow as a pond."

Still waiting on those mod tools.

Honestly, I remember hearing much the same about Skyrim, and I'm rather disappointed they didn't learn much from it.

Radiant quests might give you as many hours of gameplay as you want, but they're absolutely no substitute for quests with character and substance.
