I think the problem with this category was that only the first story by a new author was eligible for this category. We really should have had a "Best New Author of 2006" category instead. No one's first attempt at fanfic is perfect, so the list of "great first fics" is really short. I'm not just saying this because I was a newcomer for '06, but because I had some nominations I wanted to make (and authors who deserved the recognition) but couldn't because only the first story would be eligible.

I'm still trying to figure out why Taure thought my druggie!Harry fic was a romance...

Yeah, I agree. Many authors post a one-shot or two before starting up a real story. Maybe even extend a deadline a bit - jbern and a few other authors had fallen out because they were a month or two too early.

If you extend a dead line it kind of makes "New comer" pointless. It's to late to screw with it now.

Next time I would like to see a 'Best supporting character" section. For characters who are mentioned in the books but not given much story. Or to someone who manages to change a view of a character in a believeable way. This would be a great way to reward authors who flesh out characters like Moody and Tonks.

Err...that's what he's doing. He's voluntarily telling people what his choices were, and leaving it open for anyone else who wants to post to do so. There's no reason that this is out of line...its the same as mentioning it on IRC or in a PM.

The problem with this is, there are so many sheep here atm, that they'd blindly follow the vote of certain folks, with no knowledge of wtf they were voting on.

Well, since you brought up voting without a clue, I'd like to suggest setting up the voting system so that it's possible to skip a category if one does not wish to vote for it. For example, I rarely read crossovers, and the only one of the nominated stories I have read is Family Values. I'd prefer skipping this category than voting at random (too much like test-taking...)

Edit: In the end, I think I did manage to skip it by a weird combination of next-clicks and reloads. At any rate, no vote was listed for Crossover on the confirmation page

Edit2: Why not have Amerision deal with the overabundance of sheep? :p

Yeah I figured this might be a problem, that's why I emphasized that the staff should think it over and decide whether they want such discussion or not.

    I voted for...

Let me think for a minute...

    Crap. :wall:

    I forget.

Is there anyway Lord Ravenclaw can give a history of what each person voted for (that is, if he has the time - because this really isn't an important request at all)?

Edit: The answer to IP82's question is that I voted yesterday; there was no thread like this at the time.

Why don't you people just copy & past the final report you receive before finalizing the voting? Step 15 I think.

I'll take that under consideration, however I am not happy you took it upon yourself to try and break the voting.
