    With that kind of budget for a video card I'll suggest second hand. You should be able to get a decent card less than 6 months old for around $100. I know here in Aus you can get things like 6870's second hand for around that still in warranty.

    Too much. But seeing as the alternative, a Mac Pro, which would do the same job but at 50% more cost I got off easy for a machine that can do what I need it to do. I.e. handle large Pro Tools sessions, game on two, maybe three 24" 1920x1080 screens and all the normal stuff one does.

    God there is a lot of suck in that price range. Get whatever Altec Lansing 2.1 you can afford in that price range. On the other hand, I would buy $60 headphones over a $60 2.1 speaker setup.

    Trust me, you get used to the new control panel very quickly, it is very intuitive. The search in the start bar comes in handy a lot of the time, instead of having to go to run. Plus you can do a full on search in the start menu, without opening an explorer window. It will become a part of your usual usage patterns in time.     There are many systems around with dual PSU's. It's pretty easy to make a jumper to make it so both PSU's power up at the same time aswell. For some Quad SLI/CFX systems, Dual PSU's are the only way to power them due to the number of required connecters and required wattage. Same with the huge RAID arrays and such. Same with storage servers. How do you think the huge data banks do their shit? I've seen petabyte setups running off a few PSU's.

    Stay with onboard sound unless you need the extra ports a dedicated soundcard provides. Or you actually are an audio freak like myself. Dedicated sound cards jump in quality immensely once you go from consumer to prosumer then to professional. Unless you are recording audio, consumer is fine. Unless you need crazy amount of ports, onboard is fine.

    Don't screw around with RAID, not worth it in your case. If you want speed, get an SSD for OS/Programs and it blows most things out of the water including velocirapter and RAID 0 normal HDD's. I would never buy a desktop system from Dell.

    MW2 is $90US here, not AUD, US. We nearly pay double for a game when it's fucking downloaded. We even get raped there with low data allowances and in many cases, outrageous excess data usage fees. ALL distributors seem to be buying there goods off retailers overseas at the overseas RRP, adding shipping, there markup before it even gets to the retailer. A good 30% for no real reason.     Most difficult build I have ever done. Took me a very long time. Hard drives alone took a long time due to special mounting system. Got home at 5pm and finished the build at midnight. Very tedious and the cable management is terrible. Turned out well though.

    We here in Australia pay ridiculous premiums for computer hardware. Add an extra 30% on wholesale prices due to shipping, import duty and tax and we really get raped. Our RRP's are like 40% higher than other countries rrp's after conversion. Fucking sucks to live in an isolated part of the world.

    E8400 + GA-P35-DS3 + 9600GT/8800GT Make the CPU E8200 and the MoBo a DS3L if you want more money for the video card. Add in 4GB of RAM, generic will do fine for a budget system with no overclocking. If you want to overclock, either get 2-3-4GB of decent branded RAM, aka GeiL or Kingston or Corsair with either 5-5-5-15 or 4-4-4-12(preferrable) CAS timings and make it DDR2 800Mhz. DDR2 667Mhz will do fine if you go for a no OC and get generic, even if you get branded if you have more money...

    Ah the Asus G1S, I've heard a bit about this laptop. Great price for it's spec's. People have said lately that Asus screens are grainy and have heaps of backlight bleed. When you go full screen with a single colour, black, for the colour change near the top and bottom? I.e. lighter like someone is shining a light behind it? Not sure how they test for grainyness. Did this one have a tv card and fingerprint scanner and face recognition stuff for the log on?

    That's a very nice laptop. especially the screen and the hard drive. 1680x1050 on a 15.4" screen is very sexy indeed. Also a 7,200RPM hard drive on a laptop is rare to come by these days. How much did it set you back? Also, I have a feeling it is the Dell XPS M1530 customised. Dell only make two good things. XPS laptops and monitors. Did you have any trouble with drivers downgrading from the included Home Premium to XP?

    I have recovered basically everything, thank fuck for Xp taking up 10GB by itself so no data was lost. In the process of deleting everything which I don't need, e.g. system files etc that were rescued aswell, and it's taking a hell of a long time I'll tell you now. I can see how people charge a fuck load of money for data recovery.
