I can't remember the name or the author of this one, which is why I haven't been able to dig it up myself. The only information that I can remember is specific little bits that have stuck in my head.

-Hermione was competent, not a know-it-all bookworm.

-The story mentioned 'circles' which seemed to be something along the lines of a magical computer simulator.

-The dorms/living arrangements were improved based on a system of points earned by the specific student.

-Points were earned largely by competing in tournaments against other students, the students would get together in small groups for a better chance at victory.

-One of the spells used was called Jak, which conjured a small fireball. It was learned after the poem 'Jack be nimble; Jack be quick; Jack jump over the candle stick.' was mentioned.

-Harry was kicked out of the group he was originally in, basically because he bitched about the rest of his group leaving him with all the work.

If anyone knows what story this is, please let me know. I'm kicking myself for forgetting this one, because it was very good and I had the sudden urge to re-read it the other day, but I can't find it anywhere. Pretty sure it was a work in progress, and I was reading it on FF.net. Thanks.

It is indeed Wit of the Raven. Personally, couldn't get past chapter 7 which is a shame because the writing was decent, but, ugh, information overload.

Just read it and though I should have stopped at various points in Chapter 1. In Chapter 2, Dumbledore saying "shan't" was enough to click on the close button.

Ah yes. DLP thread for said story The writing is one area that I think could use some refinement, but for those who actually like super-elaborate AU Hogwarts, it's one of the better ones.

I mean, Japanese-Jew's magical system has magical cores - heck, magical cores with measurable reserves, like it was an RPG or something. That should suck. It doesn't, IMO (and is in the library, for whatever that's worth).

The magic system indeed sucks, as does the politicking of eleven year-olds, but the writing is of high enough quality to keep people looking at it favorably. Also, it hasn't really sparked a re-review, which has been the downfall of several previous stories that were formerly firmly established in the library.

    Yeah, that's it. Thanks!

It is a borderline-ridiculously AU fic, to the point that it would nearly be better off as an original fiction, but for all that it's pretty good. Pretty much a love it or hate it thing, though.
