So I read this god awful thing the other day, that was AU from the beginning of 4th year, but I thought to myself as I hit the shiny red button 'Why can't someone write something that's actually decent, and is AU from 4th year?'. So, suggestions anyone? I've read a few good ones, but can't find anything that qualifies as more than fuel for fire.

 

I'm sure there are way more than this, but for the sake of a minor guilt trip, here are these two by DLPers.

Please tell me you've read The Lie I've Lived? Technically branches from PoA, but the 4th book timezone is when the AU really kicks in.

There are tonnes of fluffly/smutty fics that use the Yule Ball as a divergance point. Like this, for instance. That's pretty much standard, though.

There's Butterfly. It's a Harry/Parvati fic, and I read it when it was starting out, so I can't vouch for its quality. It's complete, I guess.

 

Poor. Couldn't get past half the first chapter.

I've written a few, though whether they qualify as "decent" is a matter of personal taste.

I liked Rustlings in the Dark back then. Sadly incomplete.

 

I've been tempted a time or two to write a story wherein, during the Goblet of Fire selection scene, Harry's balls suddenly drop and he tells everyone involved to spin on it, and 'Moody' immediately erupts in the wobblies because the Goblet's taking it's undefined but ominous punishment on the person who entered the name of the non-participating contestant. But seeing that that run-on sentence is the entire story (with maybe the possibility of Harry munching on popcorn with Hermione and Ron during the tasks), I've never really bothered.

 

Now, after reading his fic, I feel like shanking Blaise. Goddamit, why u no continue?

 

By the way, have you considered writing a sequel to Dagger and Rose?
