    Title: Written in Reverse
    Author: JMenace
    Rating: M
    Genre: Adventure/Romance
    Status: In-Progress
    Length: 68,653
    Pairings: Naruto U./Sasuke U.
Summary: Once the possibility of chakra migrating through time and space has been accepted, the soul is only a lunging step away. Two legendary lovers escape to the past in order to save themselves, each other, and maybe the world- if there's time. A story of transmigration, yandere tendencies, and far more spiritual incest than Naruto ever signed up for. (Time Travel) (Naru/fem!Sasu) (AU)

Why wasn't this already in the Library? Hell if I know.

Written in Reverse is a story that took the bizzare direction of canon's endgame - with its god trees, reincarnated ghosts and prophecies - in stride while adding a few twists and turns of its own into the mix.

It shakes up the usual formula of time travel by bringing back not just Naruto but Sasuke too without the other knowing, then takes that even further by making Sasuke a girl. I doubt I'm the only who's thought about what the series could have been like with a female Sasuke and this one quite shamelessly goes the route of her and Naruto being lovers.

This in spite of the fact that they were practically enemies with Naruto as a loyal leaf-nin and Sasuke once again as a missing-nin. Or perhaps just because of it.

That and the references to their past life are parts of the story's appeal as things here were quite different from canon, adding a mystery that wouldn't normally be present in a time travelling fic. Nor do the pair of them waste any time in making a dramatic change to the past regardless of the consequences and in the course of doing so, tap into powers one wouldn't expect them to acquire for years.

While it's hard to say where exactly this fic is going should it continue, it definitely feels like one of a kind.

This was pretty great. The characters weren't exactly the same as their canon selves, but were perfectly in keeping with the divergence which resulted in this AU, and were internally consistent at all points. The relationship between Naruto and Sasuke felt natural, as well as in keeping with canon.

Out of everything in this fic, the thing which stuck out to me is that the author seemed to write it with a great deal of confidence. He shook himself loose from the trappings of canon rehash and went off in his own direction without crippling the story by tying himself down to the stations of canon or the usual fanon tropes.

Some of the flirting during the little camping trip felt a bit weird - but maybe that's a good thing. Teenagers trying to flirt is awkward enough before you introduce time travel and homicidal tendencies.

    Y'know what?

Great stuff, even if it is an inferior love story to the hot man-on-man Homo-Roman action of Sinful Sons.
