Any update on the status?

I have read this twice so far after the update on the upcoming update...

There's been no update since the last time the question was asked.

 

Exactly a year on since the last post in this thread, any news? Am I understanding correctly that the editors pretty much have the completed series but aren't gonna post it? For like years now pretty much... or?

I'm only curious as a huge fan of this story.

I talked with the author a month ago as a final ditch effort to post the story.

She has been super unsatisfied with some of it, and has really written herself in a corner with the sixth book. I think that has kept her from finishing it as she wants to 'redo it' but... let's be honest here, we are old farts now that don't have the time. We have agreed to look at things again in September, and try to get the final chapters online.

We are trying our hardest to get her just to wrap up the story. I give it a 50/50 shot if we convince her to, and she actually does it.

 

Are you asking "will you post the story you have access to because author won't?"

No, I will not do that. If the author doesn't want to post it, for whatever reason, that's their prerogative.

I do think that letting the story sit unfinished when it has been finished because it's not perfect is a silly prerogative, but that's just my opinion. No spoilers, but I can tell you that what's there is a decent enough ending to the whole thing and as a whole, POTDK is one of the fandom's greatest works. Like Lindsey said, the author has mentioned a rewrite, which we (the beta readers) and the author know will never happen.

The story has languished in an incomplete state for so long that it has 0% chance of ever meeting the author's own imagined expectations, especially since the beta readers were frank and straightforward in the critique we provided, both on what we enjoyed and what we didn't. It just happens that some of it didn't line up with the author's thinking and imo it discouraged her from actually posting the rest of book 7 for the general audience. I think there was probably a yearning there for more praise and she didn't exactly get that and kinda went "well I'm taking my toys back and no one can play". I don't buy an excuse of not having time, because again, the story is finished, all it would take is just post the chapters on FFN, which is not some insurmountably time-consuming titanic task.

 

Much thanks for the update guys. Yeah of course you're right; author's prerogative is author's prerogative... At least there isn't like ZERO hope it ever gets posted. Good luck in trying to convince her lol.

 

If there is anything we, as her loving fans, can do to support her in her escape from the George R.R. Martin cult of never finish story writers, please don't hesitate to let us know.
It's a damn great story, with many scenes I still reminisce about, and I beg for closure.

 

Dude, if only. It's not like there's been comments on FFN and reddit threads and probably emails and DMs she's received. Sadly, I think she'll keep putting off the "rewrite" forever and the wider audience will never get any ending at all. I'd like to be surprised, but I don't think I will be.
