Yup. I didn't go back & count the number of tasks so far, just assumed that we must be halfway through the tournament, or at least getting closer to halfway.. Still, i'm not complaining. More tasks = more story = win.

Actually, a task or two more then what was originally stated - assuming it was - may be called for. It could test the champions' ability to deal with the unexpected. For instance, they fall down a pit on their way to their next task and get to try and get out alive.

As for the water task... well, there are pros and cons to allowing it. Why can't magic jack the concept of a live video feed? They already stole radio. But agreed, the task has gotten a bit old. The best way it has been done so far has been Shezza's massacre. I doubt Harry would go for that in this fic, though

In chapter 6, the story noted earlier that there would be significantly more tasks. Because Dumbledore had to placate the other schools after the World Cup attack, he had to agree to use the "house rules" in place at Beaubatons and Durmstrang- for the former, the team competitions, and for the latter, more events.

    I'll clear up the confusion

Task 1 - Broom Race (Prize Broom)
Task 2 - Duels (all are counted as 1 task - Prize the overall winner receives the dueling lessons)
    Task 3 - Dementors
    Task 4 - Puzzle Room
    Task 5 - Dragons
Task 6 - The Apparition Biathalon, a timed course where the champions Apparate to floating platforms and target shooting. It's a modification of the Winter Olympic Biathalon which is cross country skiing and target shooting.
    Task 7 - TBD
Task 8 - TBD (I've got a few rough ideas what I want to do with these two tasks, but nothing firm. 1 might be a modification of the water task. The other might be a modification of the maze.)
Task 9 - Why spoil the fun and tell you what it's going to be?

Jim you could always focus on this and leave TML till this is finished. That would really solve the confusion faster.

I have to admit, that sounds pretty awesome. I like the original ideas you come with, jBern, both in this and TML (never got passed around chapter fifteen of TFtCD, unfortunately).

In regards to the Water Task, for it to be used in the fashion mentioned above (to bring HJ and Fleur closer) it entirely depends on your timeline with the HJ and Fleur friend/relationship. If they're to be closer at the time of year, then it can work. But if it doesn't conincide and/or you have another something original cooked up, I'd go with it instead.

It would appear, by the way chapter 15 went down, HJ is going to treat Lupin fairly, since he has never wronged Harry, in fact went far out of his way to help him. My guess would be this equals out to a wash for HJ, so he's going to let sleeping dogs lie.

:awesome Not sure whether or not you meant that double entendre but it was funny none the less.

I agree with you anyways. HJ is often saying that he is not James and is not about to do things the way James would, that he is his own person, so I really can't see him really doing anything to Lupin.

I was thinking about the two unnamed tasks, and the whole "what to do about the water task" thing. In my opinion the task is second nature to the real event which was to save Gabby, and show Harry's "moral fiber".

However whatever you decide I know will be better than the the books versions. On a personal note, would it not be both funny and a plot twister that during said rescue of Gabby, that Harry has to transform into his pronghorn form, and that she (Gabby), now knows his secret.

I can see the humor afterward when Harry visits Fleur's glade and Gabby jumps out of the water and covers herself while calling the Mr. Pronghorn a pervert and Fleur has no clue as to why.....

    sorry just a thought....

One problem with such an idea is this: Why would a Deer of all things help him at the bottom of a lake? Swimmers they maybe on occasion. Divers they are not.

Still, I would recommend doing the water task if only for the point of it bringing Fleur and Harry together. At this point, there is cold respect at most between the two. The water task can easily serve to help move that relationship forward.

I concur. And Gabby is asleep down there, anyway. By the time she's awake, everyone in the crowd can see her and Harry. So that just can't work in the scope of the Water Task.

On the other hand, a task with the same objective but not in the water would allow that possibility.

One can still have hope. Between the emo slash fics with Sirius and the loyal stooge for Dumbledore/Harry's new uncle after OOTP one gets rather homicidal towards the fangirls and Lupin.

One concern I have if the water task is used is that jbern's Fleur doesn't seem like the type of character to go to pieces during such a simple task.

If it were tweaked and the circumstances of the task or the execution were different, then yes I could see Harry lending her a hand, but this Fleur that jbern has written isn't the same rather useless bimbo that we got in GoF.

If a Harry helps Fleur task can be written without tearing down Fleur's character then I'm all for it, but it should be done carefully. I get the impression that making Fleur look bad isn't the point here.

This was my thought as well, not to mention Harry is quite a bit different. Adult-minded HJ is going to realize that the captives were put down here as part of the task and probably aren't in a great deal of danger. Especially now that everyone is on guard after the dementor task. He'd probably just go for the gold, because his competitive streak is going to ride roughshod over any lingering doubts he may have.

On that note, who would HJP's most valued person be? Somehow I doubt it will be Ron, and unless he gets a new love interest before then I doubt any of the other Champions are going to be able to pull double duty.

Maybe as an idea for a tweak on the water task and the maze, the champions have to do an underwater gauntlet of some sort. You remove the hostage aspect of it, and still leave ample room to take the underwater task to a new level. It would be a novel way to kill two birds with one stone.

I don't really see the utility of using the hostage set up, seeing as how we've already tested the champions greatest fears with the dementors, and desperation/fear really do go hand in hand for the most part.

The hat of course, or if were being serious probably Oliver Wood.

And HJ doesn't seem like somebody who would help Fleur unless he thought she was actually going to die, rather than just fail the task. (or unless it's part of his plan to get Fleur).

Dumbles: Oliver we need your assistance in a task for the TriW...

PU Coach: Yeah, no, fuck you. People die in that thing, you can't have one of my players.

    Bumbles: But..

    PU Coach: See above.
