In the "modern" (1980s and beyond) era, you're golden if you think that any of Disney's Big Four (Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Lion King) are the best that they've made in that time. That was when Disney squared its ass away and started shitting Tiffany cufflinks, so to speak.

I shamelessly stole it from Full Metal Jacket (toward the end of this clip, if you're curious).

Not sure why *that* particular turn of phrase was what came to mind, but there you go. (in before "Because you're a dick, that's why" :awesome )

It means starting making the (now) classic fairy tale films about princesses and the 'perfect' knights trying to attract them. Hell, just look at these pictures for an overview of what new Disney films are about.

Also, with the exception of Aladdin, tell me the names of the guys.

Still, I enjoy Aladdin more than any other Disney film despite the way it has become cliché. It's a solid story with a cool villain and Robin Williams as the comic relief. Plus the Carpet. I all round enjoy it. Lion King is second place though, I haven't seen it since I was a kid but a lot of it still sticks in my mind.

I'm pretty sure that the prince from Cinderella was named "Charming."

    Srsly.

Mulan is my second favorite. Love that make a man out of you song.

    Seen the twisted princesses, though.

Well, they started that long before the 80s, of course, but indeed.

The other thing about Disney cartoons and their imitators: The thing that kids remember the most isn't the happy ending, but the point early on in the film when it all goes to shit. I swear, those guys got off on tearing their audience's hearts out. See: Bambi's mother, Little Foot's mother in Land Before Time (not Disney, I know), and so forth.

That's because you're a heartless human being with no sense of goodness.

Its one of the better comedy-filled movies they came out with, I'll grant you that.

Aladdin was awesome, but Lady and the Tramp was just old school boring as hell.

Sorry but it's a 3 way tie personally as to what the best Disney movie of all time is. Hercules, Hunchback of Notre Dame & Mulan fight for the top spot with Lion King, Atlantis & Aladdin duking it out over second place.

    Seriously.

Shit, I'm getting all nostalgic for 90's Disney now...I remember actually wanting to work for their animation studio back in the day.

I think it's about time that they had another Renaissance.

Same here. I may have to watch a bunch of them now, though I refuse to watch any of the new versions with 'bonus' songs. Case and point: the Lion King.

The scene where Mufasa explains the Circle of Life to Simba is one of the most vivid memories from my childhood. But in the new version it's ruined by 'the Morning Report.' :facepalm

Anyway, this thread has been derailed quite thoroughly, so I'll now refrain from discussing Disney movies.

The Twisted Princesses pics were all pretty cool.

Yeah, Lion King is probably the most memorable Disney movie for me (James Earl Jones as Mufasa is just legendary), but my favorite is Beauty and the Beast.

I forgot about Atlantis. Probably because there weren't any songs. Still, second favorite, pushing Mulan to third.

Also, I don't think there are any more Harry Potter memes.

The Sword in the Stone was absolutely HILARIOUS, especially the scene where they turn into squirrels, but it wasn't my favorite. I'd have to go with Hercules or Peter Pan for the top spot.

I thought for sure Michael Bolton would make a comeback off of "I Can Go The Distance."

    Epic song is epic ;-;

If you actually knew Adam before googling it... well, there's not much hope for you (wikipedia says it's not even mentioned in the film).
The Morning Report is pretty awesome. <3 Rowan Atkinson.
That scene kept me scared of girls for most of my childhood. Traumatising experience.

I wouldn't have expected so much enthusiasm for Disney here. Maybe we should move this to a Disney thread.

Also, objectively the Lion King and Peter Pan are probably the best, but I like the music in the Little Mermaid. Alice in Wonderland also deserves an honorable mention, though it's hardly a children's film.

Not you too, Midnight. I thought you were a human being, man. :facepalm

How can you people hate on Lady and Tramp escapes me. Tramp was fucking boss, and Lady was just adorable. Though the sequel was just all right.

Edit: Chaos Guy, I am disapoint.
