Harry finds out Dumbledore has manipulated him and all fo sudden Dumbledore's manipulation becomes so sloppy that even Ron sees through it.

Yes it could be put that way I don't speak for everyone but I think that it is more Harry realises(sp?) that he is being manipulated looks back looking for manipulations and finding them and looking at all possible outcomes of his current decisions. Can't speak for all fics though, this is just my interpretation of what most authors try to do.

 

Oh and who could forget Malfoy the Veela with Harry as mate.

I've seen tons of this where the snake is hundreds and hundreds of years old, or is a sentient item of Salazar's

 

I've seen this plot device used well in exactly 3 stories.

I've seen it raped and violated in countless others.

 

Or the another old one is that people think that Harry's brother/sister is the boy/girl-who-lived and Harry is therefore unloved or sometimes even tortured by his parents.

 

we dont really know that much about his parents so it could happen

 

My personal favorite... Lily and Severus have an affair and Harry is their Love child.

Makes me sick.

Course we all know Lily was a total crack whore.

 

Or Harry is the Love child of Voldemort and Lily.

Another one is, Harry gets send back in time with no explanation how the hell it happend (the timeturner excuse is pathetic).

 

Or the odd harry is his own father. You know maybe the people who write these kinds will come up with a new plot twist. . . . wait . . . *shudder* so help me if Hary becomes his own father and mother *eye twitches*.

One type of story that really annoys me is the ones where Harry has a twin... The twin idea is so overrated... The most lamest ones are the ones where Harry and a Mary Sue or Gary Stu are the twins who lived...
