    Really, that low?

The kicking ass part would practically be new. Most HP/BtVS crossovers seem to have the HP crowd being barely competent and often unlikable, while the Buffy crew are certified ass-kickers, with Willow often being stronger and wiser than even the oldest and most powerful HP characters... without even needing a wand, of course. Shit, Xander's usually portrayed as being just shy of Indiana Jones and Superman's love child.

    Guh...

A lot of the time, the only mentions of Harry's name are in the disclaimer. :|

Aahah, i guess we must look in different places, as i am usually annoyed at most HP/BTVS fics wanking Harry way too much.

    This. A thousand times this.

I won't even go into most of the authors' obsessive love affairs with Snape and Malfoy (the younger).

Please tell me where you're looking.

I'd love to see HP characters in a BtVS xover that aren't incompetent, underpowered buffoons.

The Buffy story was good up until the most recent chapter. It had two problems:

    1. Harry fixing everything. It looks like he's headed off evil!Faith. Either that or the author will force evil!Faith anyway to stick to canon, even if it makes no sense.

    2. The "big reveal" of Harry's fight with Voldemort (and death), which the story has been hinting at and leading up to for 4 or 5 chapters, was summarised in 4 lines.

Ouch. There's a reason you don't let climax and anticlimax come into contact with each other. The reaction is powerful.

    Powerfully awful.

Did I forget to mention, earlier, the many HP/BtVS crossovers where Slayers are totally immune to HP magic? Because that's totally a thing that fanfic writers did.

    They did that. :facepalm

This is trumped by the one where HP magic actually increases the Slayer's ability.

    "Avada Kedavra."

    Cue bullet-time slayer.

    Yeah, it happened.

Actually, I dare say it's mostly TtH • Twisting the Hellmouth. There's 652 Buffy/HP crossovers on ff.net, and 2,815 on TtH.

And maybe 5 of them are anything resembling good. :/

And that's stretching my definition of good.

That's because TtH considers joehundredaire to be the epitome of quality writing.

Fandom would be better without unreasonable xover demands of TTH.

This. Joe's fics are all about that guy with a lesbian harem. They are also all the same fic (talking mood/pacing here), and they are frankly very creepy even without knowing anything about Joe himself.

When you do know he has a very big incestual relationship/fantasy with his lesbian sister...

Let's not slam on JoeHundredaire too much. It's been done before on DLP; several times, I think; at least once by me. The personal details he's revealed [whether fact, fantasy, or... marketing] are just a distraction from discussing the quality of his writing, and they probably don't need to be re-hashed. It's worth noting that personal attacks against JH make life difficult for DLP'ers who're prominent members of other communities where JH is respected.

    Title: Duty
    Author: Sereven
    Link: http://www.fanfiction.net/s/8748520/1/Duty
Summary: Harry has never wanted to fight in a war. But one chance encounter and the fate of the oldest Potter son takes a different turn. For better or worse... only time will tell. But time is a rare commodity when you are hunted by Death Eaters and the Ministry.

    This.

Say what you want about a person's writing (and be prepared to explain your reasoning), but personal attacks and disparaging comments about someone's life or lifestyle are, more often than not, unnecessary, and usually just end up making the community you're a part of look worse than the person you're slamming.

Dedicated to my friends in the Teachers' Lounge. Lord Voldemort's attempt to possess the soul of Ginny Weasley was successful, but his triumph was not without consequence. Find out how our favorite arch-villain deals with the pitfalls and pratfalls, the laughter, loss and love of a teenage girl's life at Hogwarts.

Polished and fairly amusing oneshot, a Voldemort influenced by a teenage girl's homones has quite a lot of potential, of the more crackish variety.
