    The Dark Arts - Canon vs. Fanon

    [Discussion split from thread Common Fandom Ideas You Hate] The absolute demonisation of Dark Arts in Fanon and creating a counter to it by using so-called Light magic. There is, in canon no usage of the word light magic or light wizard. Fanfics also take a much more hardline view of Dark Arts then we see in Canon. Harry is not berated for using sectumsepra just because it is dark magic. His use of the unforgivables also does not bring about righteous fury from anyone else.

    Common Fanon Ideas You Hate

    Was curious, what are some fairly common ideas in HP fanlore you have encountered that you dislike? One that I have almost universally encountered is how Dorea Black is Harry`s grandmother, which I dislike because of what it means for the events of canon. If my memory serves me correctly; all Blacks with the exception of Sirius have been sorted in Slytherin. If Harry Potter`s grandmother was a witch from one of the most notorious dark families and sorted into Slytherin, I`m pretty sure...

    Looking for a Fanfiction! (Pls help)

    Hello dear readers! I first started diverting from cannon fan fictions around 3 years ago, and I strongly remember this one great fan fiction that even after years of searching I was never able to find again! (Maybe it was all in my head?) Either way, hopefully by describing the general outline someone may recognize it and put me on the right path...     Hey guys, I'm still kind of new here, and really to fanfiction in general. Anyway, started this thread because I've read a lot of stories I've liked that are really off-putting because of bad grammar, spelling, dialogue, or eventually progression.     How far does Intellectus go?

    Short explanation; Intellectus is the state of being very high level supernatural creatures can have. It isn't omniscience but if they think about something they know it instantly, like they always knew.
