Naturally I've been talking about the book with friends, and one of them is adamant that there is a reason for the epilogue being the specific 19 years later and nothing else. I told him he was being a tit, but figured that there could very well be a reason. Any thoughts?

It is a bit strange, as it means that Harry and Ginny waited 7 years before having any children.

Considering most people in the Wizarding world seem to go at it like rabbits from the moment they leave school, it is a bit strange, but meh, not really that big a deal.

Perhaps it took Ginny those 7 years to brew a love potion strong enough to get Harry to actually sleep with her without a chastity belt?

I think JKR just wanted a reason to use the name Albus Severus. And what better way is when he is going to Hogwarts. He is scared about going to Slytherin so that Harry can give a speach about how not all Slytherins are evil and that Severus was the bravest one he ever knew.

It also means that Ron/Hermione, and Draco/Unamed!Spouse also waited (since their kids are all roughly the same age).

Hmmm. If you factor in a few years for establishing careers/getting hitched, that still leaves a bit of a gap (3-4 years) that needs filled. (fanfiction to the rescue?)

Unless I missed it, James' age was never given so while it could have been 7 years, it could also have been just 2 years. And 2 years from Voldemort's defeat are easily explained.

It is strongly implied that the previous year had been James' first at Hogwarts, when talking of the number of letters they sent him.

if you look at james and lily's graves they both died at age 21, so they had harry at 20? which means they waited 3 years after graduation..

someone should really write an alternative epilogue, one a little less shitty.

JKR has come out with new info that she considered putting in the epilogue, but decided not to.

Harry and Ron are both Aurors, Harry being the Head of the Auror office.

Hermione is working in magical law.

There are a load of other things mentioned in the article.

What year would 19 years later be in canon? 2017 or 2018? Is their anything happening in those years, or am I reading too much into it?

I agree, Lecter; if Ron has a hand in revolutionizing anything, I'd shudder for it.

Hmm...Harry as Department Head...I'm thinking somewhere along the line Harry nicked the Elder Wand back from Dumbledore's grave.

Hmm, head of the Auror Department. I guess that means that the Aurors are afraid of hurting people, use weak non harmful spells, can't properly duel, shirk their duties. Sorry, but I can't see Harry and Ron revolutionizing the ministry.

Huh... sure. Harry, the slayer of Voldemort for the political pull, Hermione with her brilliant ideas, and Ron... er... the brillian strategist -.-

Why not just have them revolutionise the whole world while they're at it...

I think they waited seven years so they could care for Teddy Lupin, and to get un-desturbed from the the war. Also, perhaps there is a wizard thing with the number seven, so they waited that number of years after a war.

You know thats a very good idea. Harry realising the importance of number seven, waiting exactly 7years, 7months, 7 days, 7 hours, 7 mins and 7 secs to impregnate the slut hoping that the off-spring will end up atleast a bit better than their mother.

Umm...... one more 7 and it would have been seven 7s......
