oh yeah. And this Korean movie tae guk gi. It's a war movie, and I think it is the best war movie ever. :)

To recreate the battle at Doo-Mil-Ryung, the scene required 15,000 bullets, 3,000 extras and 500 stunt experts. Instead of rifles being fired, fist fights were the main focus of the scene and all the cast were trained especially. The long shooting of 3 weeks of 50 accidents a day on average, but the scene was wrapped without a major accident.

I mean, that has to be good stuff.

    1. Bad Boys 2, it has badass guns, lots of shooting, cuban ganster/drug mofo, and hot chicks, what more could a guy want?

    2. Big Momma's House, Martin Lawrence as a fat woman... 'nuff said.

    3. Hitch, it's just so funny, this cool guy used to be a complete and total dork. And it has Will Smith, but he doesn't shoot anything :(

    4. Die Hard (1-3) these films are simply amazing, guns, bombs, people falling off buildings... Classic Bruce Willis.

    5. Enemy Of The State, fantastic political thriller.

    I detest....

nothing, really... except for those monstrosities, e.g. the Danielle Steel films... Bloody awful.

From my favourites you can easily see that I like the action.

Yes I really do! Try watching this film while sober and you will get your brain fried but watch it while drunk and with friends --> instant fun.

    Requiem for a dream
Again a story about drugs, but this one is just sad. Has one of the best songs and the camera work is awesome.

    Last Samurai
Not much to say about it. Has samurai, ninja and guns, what else could you want. It also has one of the best endings. The "good" ones win but not without costs.

    Rurouni Kenshin the first OVA
No anime will be able to be as good as this one, ever!

Requiem for a dream is a great movie about drugs, one of the best actually.

Last Samurai, on the other hand, didn't strike me as nothing more than an average summer blockbuster, the kind you get several times each year. Not to mention how many historical screwups it had (Americans never dealt with Japs, Brits did).

Giovanni's Note: Do not read my dissaproval opinions if you are a fan of those movies and easily offended. I'm just speaking my mind, and if you want to debate them with me either start a thread or send me a PM and I will be happy to further elaborate on how I formed my opinions of them.

Best Movies (in no particular order)

The Godfather Part I: "I'm going to make you an offer that you can't refuse". Need I say more?

Apocalypse Now: Great Adaptation of Heart of Darkness to cinema. Great anti-war movie (although the person who originally wrote the screenplay wanted it to be pro-war Coppola cut a bunch of Col. Kurtz's nationalist rants and a few other scenes to give it the opposite meaning). "The Horror... The... Horror" great closing line, and of course "I love the smell of napalm in the morning... It smells like.... Victory." No more needs to be said.

Michael Collins: Very sympathetic towards Collins, but on the whole a great movie.

All Quiet on the Western Front (the '20's version): Amazing Movie. Some of it might be a bit on the 'Leave it to Beaver' side of 'corny', but that doesn't change the fact that the aforesaid movie is AMAZING

Dr. Strangelove: Hilarious and deeply disturbing at the same time.

A Bronx Tale: I just like it... Ok?

and just added due to IP's post reminded me, Requiem for a Dream

Worst Movies All Time (In no order after #1)

#1. Inspector Gadget: How bad was this movie? Lets put it this way, I was 3.5 years old when it came out, I went to see it, and even THEN I realized it fucking sucked hairy, sweaty, cum-drenched monkey balls.

The Passion of the Christ: Yeah, nothing like a story rooted in anti-semitism from the Middle Ages to make us remember that Jesus Christ should be remembered not for his message of love, but for an exaggeratted and unecessarily brutal FALSIFIED depiction of how he died.

Fahrenheit 9/11: And it pains me to say this because I AM a Michael Moore fan; or at least for Bowling for Columbine, Roger and Me, and the new one he's working on... But I went to see this movie expecting something fresh instead of thinly veiled propaganda. Don't get me wrong, I will still defend this movie to the death... But I object to the way much of the information was presented. So sayeth Giovanni -- One of the few Americans located to the left of liberal on the political spectrum.

Matrix Number 2 and 3: Why? Because each relied on Keanu Reeves having acting ability. He unfortunately has none.

That New Flight 93 Movie: So what, he got the endorsement of the families? Big deal. Unless I am mistaken these were the same families that were peddling just about every 'Lets Roll' (later proven false by official investigations) related book on Oprah and every other daytime TV show they could find. You want my sympathy? Don't profit off of a national tragedy. That puts you right next to Toby Keith and Neil Young in Giovanni's Book of Sleazy Scumbags

This one didn't strike me as anything special.

    Average at best.

Never even saw this one, seems like propaganda to me... although I guess few muslims got kicks out of seeing Jesus tortured and Jews bashed at the same time.

It wasn't that bad. Had a few funny moments.

What I hate the most in these kind of liberal documentaries are these anoying calls for patriotism. I mean, the film is rolling fine and then there's suddenly some completely unrelated part about what it means to be an American and such. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against Americans being patriots, but it's so obvious that these scenes are intentionally included in films that speak against US goverment, so that no one could say they are 'supporting terrorists' or some shit like that.

I know, it's politics and all, but it still anoys me to no end and make these films seem cowardly for putting in these lame 'disclaimers', instead sticking to the topic.

Other problems with these movies included bad script, even worse dialogues, ruined concept, lame action scenes for the most part and crappy special effects.

As for the upsides... Hmm... I THINK that the credits were written without spelling errors, but I can't be sure they haven't screwed up even that...

I downloaded this film. I fast-forwarded through it and saw all the special effects. I deleted this film.

Oh IP, you have no idea about the kind of annoyance I go through on a daily basis for my political ideaology from the Neocons and regular 'traditional' Conservatives at my school. I can understand why they put the partiotism stuff in there -- it's because of the fucking conservatives. I swear, I've had to repeatedly correct them all in my AP Gov and AP Comparative Politics classes on simple matters like "Why Fascist Ideals Run Counter to the American Political Ideal." And "Three Co-Equal branches does not mean that the Executive Branch should hold nearly all of the power."

    **cuts off his angry post**

Yes, I know A Bronx Tale was average, but I like it :) It has the whole mob angle, but it also has a few social angles as well that I enjoy.

EDIT: And as for The Matrix 2 and 3, I know there were other SEVERE problems with it... But rather than take 2000 pages to list them all I just picked one of the more basic ones.

I think Johnny Depp is a kickass actor. He is exactly like Hunter S Thompson in mannerisms, ESPECIALLY in Fear and Loathing. It's a hilarious movie, IMO.

But yes, i've found that Depp and Fear and Loathing are points where either you like or hate them. I haven't met anyone who took the middle road of indifference.

I thought the beginning scene in Fear was hilarious, the whole way through to when Tobey Maguire runs away. Rofl...the look on his face.

I can't wait to watch Pirates 2...the first was nice, the second looks just as good.

    Best:
    1. Pirates of the caribian - action with a lot of fun. Some crappy momments but they can be easily ignored. The trailer for number 2 looks pretty good.
    2. Underworld I&II - cool actors, special effects and a reasonable story line. Bit serious for my liking but not so much that it was boring.
    3. Anchorman - Genius. but with a bit of a crappy ending.
    4. Matrix 1&2 - no.1 gave a good introduction and both had pretty awesome fight scenes, the end of number 2 and all of number three was just...annoying.
    5. Constantine - Thought this had a great story line and action scenes and that great darknessy feel that comes with vampire/angel/mythical stuff movies

dont have many hated films. Just the sound of music, beauty and the beast and anything with the olsen twins.

    2. Godfather Trilogy: I loved the scene between Micheal and Fredo in part 2.
    3. Scarface: I thought this whole movie was funny.
    4. Secret Window: Johnny Depp was great in this movie.
    5. The Goodfellas: Robert DeNiro at his best.

    Worst

    2. Disney sequals: nuff said
    3. Any Lifetime network movie: They're all the same.
    4. Resident Evil: Both movies were horrible.
    5. HP movies: None of them have anything to do with the books except the names of the characters.

Yeah one of the first and best hillarious comedies ever.

    Average and below.

One of the best mob movies, beats Godfather IMO.

It's not exactly 9 oscar material, but it's not that bad either.

    I actually rahter liked them.

Good list Zev. Disagree with a few choices, though (Independence Day, E.T, The Pianist, Mad Max).

Too many movies I love to knock it down to 5 favorites. And favorites are very different from "best" as well. Favorites I want to see again, repeatedly. Doesn't mean I'd say "Old School" is a better movie than "Godfather II", but if both were on, you bet your ass I'm watching Frank the Tank.

Let's see, one's I'd definitely have to consider for greatness are Forrest Gump (seriously one of the funniest movies ever), Run Lola Run (fast-paced, subtitled, gorgeous shots, and a *short* non-hollywood film), Requiem for a Dream (the definition of a visual and aural masterpiece. Not a terribly interesting plot/story but truly amazing to see and hear. Clint Mansell's score is probably the best you'll hear), American Beauty (I've been hearing lots of backlash to this movie, but I don't see it), Pulp Fiction and the Kill Bills (pulp for the dialogue, kill bill for the ... well... everything) Dr. Strangelove (of all Kubrick's brilliant movies, I think it's this comedy I like best - though I'd be remiss to not give honorable mentions to the first half of Full Metal Jacket, The Shining, A Clockwork Orange, and Paths of Glory - 2001 I'd call his most overrated) Amelie (I loved Delicatessen and City of Lost Children, but there aren't words for how much I gushed for this movie) For pure entertainment value, I look past Chris Tucker and love The Fifth Element. Ditto for The Professional/Leon and comedies like Old School, Harold and Kumar, Top Secret!, the Hot Shots (Part Deux is better), M*A*S*H, Anchorman etc. Hell, everything Pixar has put out I have loved. The Sting and Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid are up there. Though arguably, my top three favorite of all-time are Rashomon (pioneered an entire nation's film business while making a brilliant movie several decades before it's time? And none of that even affects the fact that I loved it. Amazing in all the ways Seven Samurai drags), The Big Lebowski (possibly the funniest movie and my personal favorite theater experience, dozens of dvd viewings help too), and The Hustler (Fast Eddie, Minnesota Fats, gambling, cheating, sports, pyrrhic victories... so brilliant. Sequel The Color of Money is really good too, but doesn't compare).

Bleh... I could go on for a while. And yes, I whittled my list down to this.

Good list, nonjon. Thanks for bringing up American Beauty, Tarantino's movies and Amelie... that is, if it's "Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain" (2001) you were refering to. If not, than add that one too.

    Few more classics:

    - Life is beautiful (La vita è bella)
Strangest combination of humor and tragedy ever. Must see.

    - Indiana Jones triology and Back to the future triology
Greatest days of George Lucas. Classics.

    - Seven
Great thriller. Contains one of the best scenes ever (Brad Pitt executes Kevin Spacey)

    - 12 Angry Men (orriginal or TV remake, both are great)
Psycho thriller. Only 12 jurors in a locked room discussing the case.

    - American History X
Already mentioned somewhere here. One of the best movies about racism.

    - Terminator 2
Now I know it features Mr. Governer, but that doesn't change the fact that this is still one of the best action/SF movies ever.

Few random overlooked or low budged or just... random picks:

    - Der untergang (Downfall)
Last days of Nazi Germany. Ultra realistic and overall chilling story.

    - Blade Runner
Great SF noir film. Way better than Phillip Dick's confusing novel. Fantastic closing scene.

    - Total Recall
Once again partially ruined by Shwartzeneger having to show around, but still a great SF action. Once again beats Dick's short story.

    - The Sixth Sense
That twist in the end was very chilling and cool. The rest was meh...

    - Trainspotting
Choose Life. Choose a job. Choose a career. Choose a family. Choose a fucking big television... Unfortunately, runs out of steam near the end.

    - Twelve Monkeys
I was dissapointed at first, but it got better each time I saw it. Now, I think it's brilliant.

    - Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels AND Snatch
Two British thrillers done by the same mold. Great stuff.

    - 2010
I hated 2001, but this under-appreciated sequel was great.

    - Tape
Minimalistic psycho drama. Three good acters locked in a room. That's it.

    - Mad Max 2
Most people hated it, but I thought it was great.

[FONT=&quot]I am a diehard scifi fan, but I thought "Blade Runner" and "Total Recall" was really boring.

If you look at other movies in the same genre as Mad Max, I think Water World and Postman are better.

Some other good scifi movies are:
    Contact
    Taken(Movie Series)
    Minority Report
