Ok Ryuuichi I see where you're coming from but think of the trial. The jury would either be Kira supporters saying 'innocent' (or not seeing as one of the earlier themes in Death Note is people would be Kira supporters except it's not socially acceptable) or people that consider him a mass murderer. Now imagine yourself as L (Near) tryine to explain to the jury why, if he's guity of genocide, he doesn't deserve the death penalty but instead life imprisonment. Frankly I can't think of a single convincing arguement.

You're not really supposed to like him... he's insane. Almost-Evil protagonist is what the creator was going for, I think. You like him for being badass, but you can't support his methods.

L is the hero and Kira the villain, as far as I'm concerned.

Did Light seriously not become a shinigami? Did the manga-ka fall asleep and let some hijack his manga or what? I barely watch it and I could see that's the way it was leaning.

Yeah I know. That pissed me off too when I saw the whole Mu thing. Honestly I wanted to scream how the hell did we not get Shinigami Raito?

Though yeah a trial would not have worked in Near's favor. He either would have gotten Raito killed and made him a matyr or Raito would have gotten off.

Though neither L or Raito are heros or villians I think the point of the manga was for you to decide whose justice you agree with more. Yes Raito is batshit insane and a hypocrite but L is just as hypocritical.

Though for the record L pwns Raito XD

...Oh no...*imagines a horrible emo version of Light wailing about the world being evil and L being even more of a Sue than he already is* Oh no...

*on an optimistic note* There's always the chance that they'll actually manage to do it right a slim chance but better than nothing.

If you watch the Director's Cut of the anime there is a scene where a shinigami wearing a dirty coat (very similiar to Light's) and a necktie (exactly like Light's) as a headband tracks down Ryuk and, after giving him an apple, asks him to tell about the time he went ot the human world.

EDIT: While I doubt the movie will be good it can't be much worse then the Japanese one...

    First of all, that's awesome.

Second of all, how bad was the Japanese one? Over the top and corny like most Asian flicks? Or just too emo?

    Linkage.

OK the appearance isn't as close as I remember but it's close. Also check out the rest of the Director's Cut videos. There's some good shit there.

About the movie... Ryuk was as good as he could get being CGI and all, L I felt was spot on. But Light... Light my favorite character was... he just didn't convey the character to me. His acting was good as far as I could tell, but it did nothing for me.

Light didn't feel in character to me. Part of it was his appearance. Light in the anime was dress in suit with a tie. He was also quite cold and didn't smile much. He had this air of cold, aloof, genius while the Light characterized by the movie seemed much less. He was an ok actor but wasn't great.

I'm watching the anime on Adult Swim weekly, should've stopped when the first L died.

Light was horrible. The acting was bad, the appearance even worse. The movie wasn't able to copy the atmosphere of the anime and I stopped watching it after the scene in the bus.

I only watched the first half of the anime up to the moment Light regained his memories. The whole plot with handing over one death note and hiding the other, while planning to regain them later was overdone. And I was annoyed by the amount of rules concerning the use of the notes - more and more it became something like a D&D device.

Yeah, that's the general belief. Near and Mello are teh gay. The death of L was a huge twist that could have been been great or terrible. Most of the fandom pretty much split, people who hated it and people who loved it. I myself hated it.

I watched the live action movie. It wasn't that bad. Some deviations from the manga that bugged me, like L knowing that Light was using the chip bag as a diversion while he wrote names on a Death Note paper while doing homework.

Even if the American remake blows I will probably go see it. Wonder how they will handle it. Different names? Locations? Personalities?

Nah the only thing that will probably be different is the voices. They'll be more annoying >_> I just hope that Mello and Near aren't in the movie because Near = fail
