So while surfing Youtube I came upon a video series by a guy calling himself MarbleHornet, I searched for a thread on him here but didn't find anything. This Ladies and Gentlemen is what I had hoped The Blair Witch Project had been, such a disappointment.

It's an amateur horror film that's told in a series of videos as they get uploaded. So far there are 31, 1 through 29 with the intro and the video entry between 25 and 24 not being counted in the numbering system. It covers some interesting plot holes such movies of it's kind usually have, in essence why the fuck are theses people carrying around cameras in situations like this. But it is still amateur so you see a few rookie mistakes along the way, at one point the guy looks in a mirror and you can see him lugging around a huge, impractical, movie camera. Still as you watch you can feel a sense of creeping evil as things spiral downward into whatever ending that's coming, the series is hasn't been finished yet.

Not to spoil it, but a general summery is that our protagonist at the very beginning of the series, the introduction, has just found the tapes from an unfinished college film project that he managed to convince his friend, who shot the film, to give to him after hearing his friend planned to destroy them. Not long after he was given the tapes his friend transferred to another college and the protagonist hasn't heard from him since. It all happened rather fast and disturbed him, so he put the tapes away and forgot about them....until now. He says he will go through the tapes and then upload anything strange he finds onto the net as a way to permanently enter it into public record. What comes from this is....well....epic, truly epic. I can't wait for this guy to finally get behind a full movies set and the like to see what he can really do.

That said these videos make me paranoid as all hell.

    Enjoy!

There's a whole real-life simulation thing going on. There's a twitter account that the person with the tape's persona uses to post update. Someone's responding to each entry very, very forebodingly, it's an interesting take on horror, it's mostly in the film component, but also spills over into the internet.

Watched every episode over the last hour or two. Nice find. Gave me the creeps for a little bit there. I'm going to check in on any new updates, regularly.

I’ve been following this for quite a while and I don’t remember the last time I was so freaked out. It’s so creepy that I keep looking over my shoulder and through open doorways. It definitely makes one paranoid.

There are actually a lot of video series in this ‘style’ (while they aren’t directly linked to each other, they have the same characteristics) so if you liked this I suggest you check out EverymanHYBRID and Tribe Twelve. While neither is as scary as Marble Hornets, both of them are still the best of all the series Marble Hornets inspired. Though, EverymanHYBRID takes quite a few videos to get into the really good stuff, so don’t be put off by the beginning. It’s not what it looks like.

This is one the creepier things I've seen lately. That slenderman thing reminds me of that alien from Close Encounters of the Third Kind, always creeped me out as a kid.

Slenderman won a photoshop contest on something awful and spread to the rest of Anonymous because he looks like their logo.

...he's also kind of like a combination of Pedobear and Anonymous if you think about it.
