NOTE: If this is in the wrong area, please move it to the appropriate place. Thanks!

I was surfing around and I happened to come across this the other day. It's a template for Jon Rosebaugh's de-FF.Net-izer in the style of the FanFicAuthors.net site. It looks nice actually, compared to the urple colored defaults or the minimal templates I've been using all this time. I've taken to using it lately when doing rips of FF.net authors and quite like it, but the thought occurs to me if FFA.net has a template, shouldn't we have one as well?

I'd love to have a template I could use (if for nothing else) than to have one more method of advertising the forums, but also because I think a template using the site's customary green and black backgrounds over pale text would be quite an improvement over the many black text on white background templates that exist. Unfortunately I know next to nothing about CSS and whatever else would required to put one together, so I come here hat in hand and ask--is anyone willing to lend a hand?

If I had any time whatsoever, I'd take this up.

As it is, too many things on the plate. Sorry.

False advertising! The first part of this thread title got my hopes up, and there isn't any cannibalism!

Back to topic . . . well, actually, I don't know anything about it, so there's nothing in this post about this topic. Just cannibals.

Sounds like an interesting project, Born. Need someone to take it up.

    Thx @ Jeram

Tried it myself, but didn't come around to make a new HTML Construct. This one is good, I like the Review and FF.net links.

Looks nice, but could use a little tweaking IMHO...

Also the archive is corrupt (I was able to use WinRAR to repair and extract the files anyway but it still gave the error) and contains many of your *.bak files, did you mean to include them? If not you should probably remove them as they will clutter and be copied to every archive made....

I made a screen cap and some comments, please don't be offended! I'm thrilled someone is actually taking up this project but I do think there could be some improvements made...

Sorry to have disappointed you all, whomever it was that also read this thread expecting to see cannibalism and the eating of dead babies... I wasn't even thinking of Jonathan Swift when I named the thread; rather I was think of Joe Haldeman's short story: To Howard Hughes: A Modest Proposal about how a group of terrorists funded by a billionaire force the world to disarm their nuclear stockpiles via the use of judicious blackmail and terrorism.

I apologize to all who were disappointed by my false advertising.

    Cool...I'm testing it out now...

Ahh on the wut, but isn't there a way to modify the template to start with a two digit chapter count, ie 01, 02, 03. etc or is this a "feature" of the de-ff.net-izer itself?

Also what about the other suggestions I made? Or am I asking about things which are inherent to the design of the program and not the template again?

    --bornagainpenguin

PS: regardless of anything else, thanks for the effort you've already put into doing this for us, I appreciate it!

PPS: You need to make another archive, putting jeram's credit back! He deserves to be acknowledged for the effort he's making! Also, are there supposed to be both a style.css and a styles.css? Which one should be kept and which one should be binned?

You need the styles.css for it. I didn't do much for it, i just repacked and repaired it. I can look if I can change some things of your suggestion. If I can then I'll put it in ;)

Plz feedback. I'll edit in new versions of the other templates too.

And the credits from the original creator is back in the archive

I like the second one better. Just IMHO, others may have their own opinions of what looks good.

Another thing I thought about, would you be able to center the (CC) Creative Commons Logo also? I think it'd look better if it was centered...

Oh and I had an evil thought! Could you somehow link the header image to DLP? So that way people who get archives from places like the HPRecycle Bin or other types of fanfic archives will be able to find the site? Or is this risking inviting a bunch of idiots to plague the forum again?

Feh, it's just a couple of ideas...

    --bornagainpenguin

PS: Thanks for the effort you're putting into this as well, perhaps you could add to the version text something like:

    Okay, now it's looking badass!

Question-- are the scripts in the scripts folder necessary or not? I ask because I see you do not have those in the archive. I kept the ones I've been using, just replaced the images and ect from the latest archive, so I don't know what you've been doing.

The other suggestions I've made on the image I'm linking here, also may I recommend you move the "version information.txt" into the actual template folder, so it will be reproduced in every archive? Perhaps a link should be added to the download location as well, so if someone wants to recommend the template and cannot recall where they found it they'll be able to find the download link there?

The script ordner is not needed in this template.
In the standardtemplates is the dynamic Header images, for that you need the scripts, also for the fontchange etc i think you need it, but for the DLP.net-Style you don't need them, I checked it ;)

I'll overwork the footer. I may have an Idea for the CC-Button/Text .
The space was between is there 'cause of the HTML-Tag used there. But I'll change it. Don't know when it'll be out.

At the moment I'm playing some funwars and I'll work between them on it.

And the version information is moved, will be online moved with the next version.

    Ner0

    .:Update:.
    Footer updated
    version information moved into templates

    -----

About the DL-Link, I don't know how long I'll have this space, at least till October, but after that I don't know. So I uploaded it as attachment here on the forum I hope it's ok. So the DL-Link would be useless unless the person is registered. You can also upload the template on HP-RecycleBin.

Sounds good! I'll be looking forward to the finished version. Perhaps with Jeram's permission and that of whomever is left still in charge of DLP.net we can even get an official (without my inadvertent false advertisement) thread with a sticky somewhere appropriate for such a thing?

Tell me if you have some feedback for it or some things to make the templates better.

You can download the newest version always here: http://kranksein.org/deffnet/deffnet.rar (2/17/2007) (no changes since the last update post)

I would certainly not mind an official version of a DLP template. My initial idea for the template was designed to be a starting point, so I'm happy to see any positive changes occur. If you guys need any further help with developing the template (including adding any scripts, which I can potentially do), let me know.

I've looked a bit at the de-FFNet-izer code, because honestly, I'd like to make some changes. If there's any particular thing you'd like to change, let me know so I can look into it.

At this point it all looks good to me! (Shocking! I know...) Much thanks to both you and Jeram for making it possible.

This would be great! The guy who maintains and writes the de-FFNet-izer doesn't even use Windows, so it gets difficult for him to check for bugs in it and other OSes. Just try to keep the code cross-platform, please?

Some suggestions as far as the de-FFNet-izer goes would be...

...for some way to right click + paste the story id codes in the fields instead of having to use keyboard shortcuts

...a way to select which template you want to use from a list box. (I plan to use the DLP.net template for all Harry Potter related fanfics and a different one for all my anime based fiction.)

...ditto the above, but for the save to location. In fact, if you have a way to make the save to location be selectable in each download with a default location (as it is now) that'd be a major improvement IMHO.

...a fork allowing the app to work in other fanfiction archives? Ficwad, Twisting the Hellmouth, lotrfanfiction.com, etc...

--bornagainpenguin (about to get back to remaking the archives with the DLP template soon..)
