Edd just isn't quite measuring up to his book-self.

    Here's a few examples

    Well written characters make mistakes.

I agree, but I still regret that Oberyn's cost him his life.

GRRM seems to delight in killing the characters most people like and keeping sadistic douchebags alive. Seems to be working :awesome

He did kill Joffrey. GRRM is an equal oppourtunity vengeful god. It just so happens that there are a lot more sadistic douuchebags than there are good people.

Gregor's dead too. Jury is still out if he'll stay so.

Oh dammit, Odran. The show ruined him for me. I look at this guy and nothing. There was only one scene I recall where he was Dolorous Edd, the ep. under The Fist of First Men when they're gathering guano. And once at Craster's. That's it. So much potential...

    BWAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!

Ah... that was good stuff, right there.

Shame about Oberyn, he was a decent guy, if all too sure of himself (obviously). I knew he was a dead man the second he backed off and started ranting, but wasn't quite expecting the graphic brutality of his demise.

Deadwood had at least one one-sided fight that ended in teeth flying like Chiclets, and another that caused an eyeball to become dislodged and swing from its optic nerve, but Game of Thrones seems determined to top it. Ugh.

Everyone would have been a lot better off if Oberyn's Cliché Sense had tingled and he gave up on extracting a confession, in favor of simply stabbing repeatedly until The Mountain was more of a red puddle than a land mass.

Any chance that piece of shit actually died from his wounds?

With all of the people out there getting worked up over the character deaths and constant injustice in GoT, you'd think there would be at least a few HP/GoT curbstomp crossovers, just for some catharsis; but, nope... empty slash fic wins again.

He was fighting the Viper of Dorne.

Oberyn poisoned his spear with something so nasty, it takes the Mountain days to die, in such pain that his screams prevent people in the Red Keep from sleeping.
Couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

So, the beetle story... is that about Jaime, or am I overstretching the symbolism?

In the beetle story, you have Tyion watching a family member who is stupider than him go around killing a lot of things.

There's a strong parallel with Jaime there. Tyrion has always looked up to Jaime. Jaime is stupid compared to Tyion. Jaime has killed a lot of things, without putting much thought into why.

When Tyion asks why, is he asking Jaime why he has spent his whole life killing?

(Note: I'm not saying that the boy in the story is actually Jaime, I'm just saying that the point of telling the story was to ask Jaime).

I thought he was talking (in a very loose, stupid-cousin way) about the Game of Thrones. So yes, it's about Jaime, but it's also about everyone else caught up in the struggle for power (which is, according to Varys, only ever a shadow anyway).

I like the moment where a wildling shoots an arrow and it barely reaches half of the Wall's height. Then the giant dude comes along with his portable ballista and lets loose with a harpoon.

This was the best episode of season 4 so far. Purple Wedding being the runner-up.
I'm warming up to this Jon Snow.

And yes, the Wall Scythe was boss.

The battle was great though I was expecting its resolution in this episode. Instead we will get a very long (66 minutes) last one.

And apparently, because some people recognized who that may be in the promo, the Hound will meet and maybe fight
    Brienne.
    A quite surprising change.
