Yeah this show gives me hope for the Dark Tower, isn't it like 2013 when that is coming out?

(Man, Emilia Clarke plays innocent well, she gets naked in the damn episode and she still manages to look more innocent than any other female actress in the show)

I was just thinking the same thing, heh.

I think being heir to the throne AND hailing from two of the wealthiest and most powerful families in the Seven Kingdoms sort of adds a few points, even if he is younger.

This, and besides- this is a medieval world where life expectancy is probably somewhere in the 40s at the highest for common folk, and even accounting for higher standards of life for noblemen, it's probably in your best interest to get started quick.

Aingeal- case in point, girls are often married off as soon as they're of child-rearing age, that is, once they've had their first period. That's young, if you don't get it, and Sansa being 13, and Joffrey being in the same young-teen age range, her calling 'handsome' isn't strange by any means.

Just watched the pilot and I loved it. Daenerys and Tyrion are still my favorite characters. The Stark children, imo, are well cast. Even if I pictured them a bit differently, they are not unfamiliar at all. The series is shaping up nicely.

Now, is it going to be released weekly, biweekly or monthly and are all the episodes 60 minutes? Would be awesome if they were.

I am starting to doubt whether or not they will manage to truly tell the whole story of "A Game of Thrones" in only 10 episodes though. First episode was what, the first 80 pages?

Am glad they omitted the horse-heart eating scene, although it did show Daenerys dedication and sense of duty.

I am still at a loss for how anyone can tolerate Daenerys. I despised her sections in the books and found myself dreading them as much as I once dreaded certain reading assignments for school -- moreso in some ways, since I forced myself to read them anyway.

I watched her sections of the pilot episode as well and found myself disliking them as well. I kept being tempted to get up for a snack/drink but opted not to for fear I'd miss something else.

Ok, admittedly that was a bit of a rant, but I really am at a loss. A lot of people, and not just here, find her to be one of the most interesting POV characters and I honestly do not get it. At least with a book like Frankenstein I understand why it's famous even though I didn't enjoy reading it, but this chick... it boggles the mind.

Casting seemed fine, though I still wish they hadn't aged Jon and Robb quite so much. I did realize however that it's harder to pull off in a medieval setting. Using adult actors is a wise choice b/c most child actors suck and Jon and Robb both have big important roles to play. However I had hoped that we'd see them as being perhaps 16-17 even if the actors are older, much as we see older actors playing kids in popular culture (Buffy, etc.). Instead Robb and Jon seem more like 27 than 17, which I think sucks, but it's hard to de-age them when you can't use pop culture / clothing / etc. to do it.

Given all the sex and whatnot with Daenerys they had to age her for TV -- wasn't she like 12 in the books when all that started? I also seem to recall her wedding night having less of a rape-vibe in the books, didn't he give her a choice of some kind that she didn't seem to have in the show? Minor nitpicks though -- they did a good job I thought for their pilot episode.

That isn't a nitpick - He did give her a choice, and covered her up as well. Which is why she grew to love him, as well as adopt his culture so readily. I was really wtfing when I saw that.

Loved the first episode, I don't think you can do any better in adapting something of this scope.

The acting was fantastic, especially Jaime Lannister and the Targaryens. Harry Lloyd was perfectly creepy.

Joffrey was only in the episode for maybe 3 shots and didn't say a word, but the actor seemed more Malfoy than Tom Felton ever did.

So I watched this, having no clue what I was getting into, and it was ... eh. After the opening, which was very awesome, it was decently made and I was watching it in a let's-see-what-happens way. Not really exciting, but enough to keep me interested, more or less. That was, until the very end.

Suddenly out of nowhere incest appears 8D

Awesome. I'll keep watching, even if I have to use wiki to keep track of the names. And I want to see more of the Queen. I like her already.

Man, the chick who plays Danaerys is smokin. What I wouldn't give to get up in that.

And lol at the rapey scene at the end.

Also, Vyseris (or however you spell his name) is a lot more tolerable so far than what I remember from the books. Maybe it's just the actor, but he seems a lot more...I don't know...sympathetic than he was in the books.

In the books Viserys seemed more angry and impatient to me. In the show he seemed less angry and more creepy with his constant smiling. Perhaps it's the smiling that's throwing you off.

I like the show a lot overall, but it's hard for me to get past all the little things that were changed. I know things had to be changed but it stills annoys me just a little.

Not only is Daenerys an interesting character, she is also key, a pillar of the story. I don't remember if it's hinted at or outright stated, but it's her dragons that bring back magic to Westeros (and the rest). With the walkers getting bolder it just sounds like a good idea to have magic and fire-breathing, flying lizards on your side.

But that's plot. Why like her? Well, it's up to you, really. But the has many traits people can relate to; she's a young girl in an unknown land; gets stripped of her innocence; progressively grows stronger with every challenge and obstacle; flattens her opposition; and through sheer cunning and perseverance she finds herself commanding an army almost large enough to take back the Iron Throne.

    And she's smoking hot.

Agree about Viserys not being very close to the book. At least in this episode he seems far more collected and patient about his situation, and his dealings with Daenerys aren't as rough as in the book. Just as uncaring, as evidenced by him saying he'd give her to Drogo's 40.000 dicks if it would get him an army, but he says it with a smile in a very creepy way. In the book he'd have said it angrily.

Dunno. Maybe it's for the best. Though I can't wait for Drogo to 'crown' the little shit...

In A Clash Of Kings Tyrion talks to the pyromancers and they say something along the lines of ever since the last dragons died magic has been slowly dying out in Westeros.

I actually liked Daenerys in the books, but in the episode, she is quite annoying. Not the actual acting, but her damn expression - she seem to be retarted, not understanding anything around her.
Edit: But she's hot, so mostly forgiven.

Aside from that and a few nitpicks, I found the episode extremely interesting. The opening part with the map was awesome :D

I wish they would show more of the Stark children interaction with their wolves...

The premiere was awesome. Game of Thrones is going to be legen - wait for it - dary. I haven't seen a TV show that promising in a very long time.

I have watched the first episode with my girlfriend who hasn't read the books and she enjoyed it thoroughly; I didn't even need to clarify anything, except reassure her that Bran didn't die. I feel bad not telling her he will be crippled though :D

    To clarify:
The pyromancers made more of their magical fire than they thought possible, and their leader tells Tyrion about magic dying, and ask him if he know of some new dragons popping up.

I'm still unsure if the pyromancer really didn't know for sure if there were any, or if he was just dropping some hints to see if Tyrion also knew.

They'll probably keep the Game of Thrones name. Maybe they'll put A Clash of Kings as a subtitle like "Game of Thrones: A Clash of Kings". But I'm pretty sure the first season is supposed to cover the entire first book.

From what I read the second season will be adapted from the second book. I doubt they will change the name of show though.

Also, I haven't read books, but I've feeling that whoever Sean Bean is playing will not survive for long. Can't see a big screen actor like him being on tv-show for more than a season, at best two.

You just have to look at Bean's character history through 99% of his films to see how he'll end up.

Also, my reaction throughout the episode could be accurately described as HOLYSHITWTFHTHATSAWESOMEHOLYSHITFUCKINGSPECTACULARSEANBEANDANAEYRSISHOTFUCKTITS!
