    This is actually really good.

White Walkers attack when Jon is with Mance, scattering the wildlings and leading Jon to the far North. He discovers a dragon that fled from the Doom 400 years ago.

At first it sounds like Jon will just be overpowered and win easily, but that is not the case. The dragon is incredibly injured and they are alone in the North with White Walkers everywhere. Jon cannot control the dragon easily either.

It's looking more like Jon will become King Beyond the Wall than anything else.

You definitely did a good job keeping it interesting until the ending; I did enjoy your Droose. Just kind of wish you'd declared another hiatus until you felt like you had a better finale instead of ending it like that, left a bit of a sour taste in my mouth.

Keep taking hiatuses and nothing ever gets finished, All my ASOIAF stuff needs to finish by February. It'll have been four years since I started on ADOTN then.

I know it's off topic but why specifically the deadline? Sorry if I'm prying but I probably speak for at least a couple of people when they say ADOTN has become a part of their life in a way.

I imagine it's probably just boredom or wanting to try something new but I'm genuinely curious.

Droman/Hash decided to post the final update of ADOTN on that day to make it feel more....epic. And to give him time to make it a truly worthy finale. It's the fourth anniversary of when he first started ADOTN, like he said.

Honestly, it's not something he decided just by himself either. He asked for opinions and such on whether or not he should just finish it, or make it Big And Special. People opted for the Big and Special. Not that anyone can really tell Droman what to do, but we probably had an influence in helping him make up his mind.

Pretty much what Pro said. Plus I'm working three different jobs at the same time, so I wanted time to space and write properly.

Agreed. I wasn't expecting the quality of storytelling from the premise. Serpentguy has done an admirable job of finding the character's voices and makin them stand out. He's also pulled this dragon into the story without causing a whole mess of "fix-it's" and honestly managed to take the events disrupted down a very realistic path.

This is a suprisingly good story, with an editor it could def be a 5/5. He even gets Sam voice so right that my urge to throttle him is almost the same as reading martin's chapters

I agree that Dragons of Ice and Fire is surprisingly good.

Another that I don't think has been mentioned in this thread is Knees Falling by Perfidious Albion on alternatehistory.com. The premise is that Maester Cressen successfully kills Melisandre in his chapter, leading to a very different story. The writing is almost GRRM-quality, with POVs that feel like their canon counterparts despite fantastically thought out (and steadily more divergent) butterfly effect. It's definitely worth checking out.

Definitely needs an editor..or DLP. The author tends to repeat himself quite often, and his use of "was never" for "wasn't" is a touch odd. I like the story, though. Worth a look.

My thoughts exactly. He repeats himself a lot, both words and thoughts, keeps trying to pass over the same ideas. He also uses adverbs way too much. Kek. But yeah, he needs to cut down on them and a merciless editor to cut out useless fat.

I also advised him to drop the Danny pairing. She's way too far for anything organic to be developed and his last chapter was basically a rehashing of her campaign in a transparent attempt to overcome that but... Ugh.

It's good though. Quite well written. If someone could review and tell him that and to.find an editor or come here, would be nice

The Open Way updated again. It's a transitional chapter but hints at interesting developments ahead.

Are there more chapters on AH than FFnet? Just read my way through whats on there and even applied for an account on AH but for some reason mods need to validate accounts there or something.

Good news! I found my way through the maze that is AH to the correct thread and there are indeed more chapters than just the 7 posted on FFnet.

Wow, Knees Falling is superb. It's definitely one of the very best ASOIAF fics I've read.

Perfidious Albion is a very solid writer and has an excellent understanding of ASOIAF. Knees Falling is his first long form work, but he has a few other things worth reading for a general analysis.

These are all AH links, so it is restricted to members, but despite the mods' slowness I do think it's a worthwhile forum to join.

Mutiny at Storm's End: During Robert's Rebellion the garrison's spirit doesn't hold. A short story.

Stormbroken: An analysis of the Blackfyres winning. Non-narrative.

Five Kings Minus One: An exploration of the consequences of one of the kings not claiming the crown. Again non-narrative in tone.

The second two aren't really stories, falling more into the historical analysis that AH does and some here dislike, but they're excellent explorations of divergences beyond "the Starks, Tyrion, and Daenerys all win forever!:)!!" If you enjoy discussing or reading about the setting at all they're worth your time.

Perfidious Albion has concluded the climactic battle for Knees Falling: A Clash of Kings, and it didn't disappoint me. He polled his audience there, and will continue onto the next book in the same style (as opposed to in history book fashion, which he had considered).
