Canon rehash thrown in with some new dragons. The Rickon stuff was just awkward and this simply goes on to marsh steadily off the fix-it-cliff.

Poorly written. Prose was very flat. Got a few chapters in and shit happens almost exactly as it did in the show save for the 'divergence'.

Night Dragons is bad. Hard to read, poorly written, with almost zero grammar. This isn't enjoyable to read.

Lol, yeah no. Maybe lead with: "Stannis dies, so Robert gives Dragonstone to Jon SNOW because... reasons."

He also weds Margaery because 'shipping yay!'. Guilty pleasure is pushing it, on par with SI bullshit that gets linked here.

It is atrocious. On the same note, I read Summer Crowns. It was way less atrocious than I expected. For anyone interested in world-building, I found it interesting enough to read it all.

I thought it’d been recced already, but if it has my quick scan missed it.

I read what was published at the time and enjoyed it well enough, but I couldn’t get back into it from chapter alerts.

The first two words in the latest chapter are “King Dragonwolf.” I think that says enough about this particular gem for me to avoid it.

Yeah, Dragonstone went from "decent" to "what the fuck?" real quick.

Serpentguy (author of Dragons of Ice & Fire) started a new fic about Bruce Wayne in Westeros. So far only one chapter and on spacebattles.

How long until he invents the printing press?

I was excited by the thought of the goddam Batman in Westeros, but it's not a crossover, just an insertion of 'House Wayne' into canon Planetos.

To be fair, the author is actually pretty good. Unlike the vast majority of SB, he can actually write and does write more than just another iteration of Worm. That said...
Yeah. I think we’re taking The Dark Knight to a very literal ending.

Next chapter. He's going to invent the printing press and develop gunpowder, and then dig a giant canal across the Neck. Not to mention farming highland cattle and introducing crop rotation, before conquering Westeros and turning it into the Kingdom of the Bat. There'll probably be a harem of every female character too.

It's not going to be a proper crossover unless this harem includes an ASoIaF version of every major DC female character.

Not sure I am into this as a concept, tbh. While I am glad that this won't have Batman with his phds and mastery over every science and philosophy reinvent modern technology and comfort, I would also be more interested in Batman having to deal with being in Westeros. Especially since opposed to all other SI characters who do so, I would actually believe Batman doing well there in a sense, since, well, he is the goddamn Batman. Not just wank him but I could believe that Batman convinced a lord here and there, or even kings, of his way of looking at things, which is not something I do with your regular schmuck who finds himself in the body of some Westeros.

Heck, man, throw the Batfamily in there. I want to see Steph, Cass, Dick and co in Westeros, trying to find their bearings. Fuck, how interesting would it be for Babs in her oracle time to get there. I would even take Alfred, just get the whole gang. No bullshit powers, no future tech, not much in inventions or printing presses, just the Batfamily trying to do their best to find each other again, get home and maybe fix this burning dumpsterfire that is Westeros.

Dunno, would be what I am looking for in a crossover like that.

That said, I'm just not digging this premise because I am not sure where this will go. I believe in Serpentguys skill as a writer, but not sure if I just want the dark knight equivalent in Westeros, for Bruce to train with the faceless men or something and then fight crime. Not sure how, even. Westeros is big and it takes months on horseback to travel. BAtman works because he is in one city. Is that what we are going to get? Focus on one city?

So yeah, not sure, too early to really tell.

The other thing with Batman, this newest chapter ended with Bruce wanting to kill the knight who killed his parents. In America that was seen as a negative, here that's something to be lauded. Everyone in the setting who matters would be completely onboard with the desire, with the only negative being the reasonable fact he's a small nine year old. Batman's code of conduct doesn't make a lot of sense in Westeros.

The main point of Batman is his desire to not only get a vengeance, but to prevent anyone from suffering like he did. In Westeros it could work with him becoming a knight-errant and earning his Dark Knight title as a mystery knight in one of the tournaments.

Nemrut, that sounds like a terrible fic. As usual.

There are three chapters up so far. It's not bad - definitely much better than most SB fare - and it has potential. How Bruce is meant to learn to use a sword after being crippled remains to be seen.

So, I don’t know if any of you are following it as it’s gotten some mixed reviews here, but A Song for Dragons just updated today. That link is to the latest chapter.

For some recap, the fic starts with a basic Jon goes to Essos premise and is written in an already heavily AU setting. At this point, almost every major and most minor events of ASOIAF canon have been derailed entirely or altered significantly.

The piece shines in the storytelling and characterizations. The author has a pretty deft hand at weaving multiple interlacing plotlines and overall it actually reads like ASOIAF. In that same vein, the characters, OC and not, are wonderfully detailed and compelling.

On the other hand, it needs a beta. Badly. Thankfully, there aren’t many common spelling mistakes or issues with homophones, but there are a bevy of tense issues and awkward problems with the prose getting in the way of the story.
