Just finished No Featherbed For Me. Excellently written, but holy hell, what a depression-fest. Plus, I've never disliked Arya as much as I did in that at times - it's like someone consciously trying to make the worst decision every time, and then whining about everything going just how she should have seen it would.

 

Northern Wilds

Jaime/Arya fic. Half crack, half interesting divergence, 1/3 romance. Well-written and great dialogue. Sort of whimsical too.

Typos happen, but omfg I hate it.

The divergence is interesting enough, but I'm not so sure about Arya's chattiness. The AU can justify the change from canon-Arya, it's just mildly annoying to read.

That said, this line is well placed and pretty great:

Ygritte survives the Attack on the Wall. Not a bad time waster. Writing is reasonably good after a medium first chapter, characterization pretty good.

Not much divergence from Canon yet.

I really like how it’s developing. Seems a little fast, if the Raven is the ultimate enemy, but I’m getting the impression that he’s just the most visible one.

The magic component he’s started working into lately is pretty interesting. Very in-theme for hate to feature as a component of skin changing.

 

The ultimate enemy will probably still be the Others. Jon uniting the realm yada yada.

 

Life and Honor also updated. It’s been a good week for interesting ASOIAF stories.

 

First time I've ventured into SpaceBattles, fuck they love their Worm stuff.

Shadow Beyond the Wall - ASoIaF with Shadow of Mordor elements.

Jon dies and is brought back.. albeit, not through the means of R'hollor. With access to knowledge and guidance from an unknown spirit, access to ancient magics and forgotten paths, Jon fights to re-unite the North alongside the Wildlings and King Stannis.

One of the more recent fics I've enjoyed enough to read in a single sitting and it isn't a short one by any means. I've a vague understanding of Shadow of Mordor but you honestly don't need to have played/know about it to be able to follow the fic, it's well explained without doing an information-dump and they're well rooted without having to embellish aspects of the native world. Characters are true to themselves and haven't been altered to fit and Jon isn't ridiculously overpowered as if it's a game. Also expands upon the myths/legends as in the Skagos Unicorns, which I think is a nice touch.

One thing I will say which was somewhat.. out of sync would be the White Walkers. The way the 'young' ones speak/think is too human, but that points negligible.

 

Bruh. Post it in the library for review.

I just binged it and this stuff is bananas. Jon snow has powers from the white walkers, Travels back in time, and has something seriously wrong in his head

None of that makes me want to read it. Sounds fucking awful.

 

It was fun from a popcorn standpoint. It's the definition of a 2/5 brainless bit of fiction
