Also, I know that one AFCBrandon fic about knight Jon was posted here sometime ago, and this has a similar concept, executed much better imo (with ever so slightly better writing) - https://archiveofourown.org/works/13883976 . It gives you way more reasons for Jon to go down as a legend, firmly places him in the league of Duncan the tall etc. It's also marginally less horny.

The only thing that annoyed me was

pretty much everything after Aegon died - the Ned scene would have been ok but him getting released from the Night's Watch felt unnecessary. The very end where Arianne releases him from the kingsguard and says they're gonna get married is really stupid and kinda ruins the whole story imo, so I choose to ignore it.

Great entertainment value as far as one shots go, and probably my favorite knight Jon Snow type fic.

Not a fan of this one, as it takes after the HotD show where Aegon is a rapist - which was clearly done so that Rhaenyra could be shown in a more positive light. I can understand loathing a character for faults already present, but inventing new ones like this just reeks of shitty writing.

 

I mean the Rhaenys murders a bunch of innocent civilians for no reason, Daemon kills his first wife with a rock, and then Rhaenyra, Daemon and Laenor murder a servant so that they can fake the latter's death. Both sides are equally morally bankrupt imo, and book Aegon still watched children fight to the death iirc.

 

Yeah I can't see Aegon in a bad light anymore. His actor Tom Glynn-Carney was so good I saw him in a new way and made me want to symphatize with him. The scene were he gets crowned and crowd cheers for him simply superb.

 

This was solid. Wish there was more of it. I am very curious where the author is planning to go with it.

 

I follow The Wounded and To Shift a Sail, I've read the others too but don't care for them.

That's a peggy sue I'm following, it's better written then most and the characterization is competent. But it remains to be seen if it will fall off like most time travel.

shrouded destiny is also on fanfiction.net - the author has a hp/asoiaf crossover already completed, with rather weak start, but enjoyable finish.

 

I'm sorry, that's not merely a 'weak start', that's got Jon Snow fusing souls with Harry Potter, which for some reasons causes him to grow taller, stronger, his eyes turn purple, he doesn't feel the negative effects of cold or fire, and also his dick grows bigger, which is something Tormund keeps bringing up.

 

The eyes turning purple and not feeling the cold or fire I could kind of understand, since it’d be the magic of Harry affecting Jon’s valyrian heritage. And of course his dick would grow bigger, we all know that Harry has a longer schlong than Jon Snow-

but getting taller? Let our short kings thrive, random fan fic author.

 

I feel there’s a good crack fic in a power fantasy Harry who has a small penis.

 

@Odran yeah, it greatly depends on what your pet peeves are.

yes, the introduction is an infodump, he ends up larger and there’s the dreaded “magic works differently”.

But then he actually pucks a bride not based on “she was hot”, but politically advantageous, and generally makes moves that make sense.

it also has generally better English than most current crossovers. Thus, depending ob what grinds your gears, it’s either redline or good story with weak start.

 

It's just one of the many indicators of what a shitshow this seems to be.

The fact that the author went with the show-verse for Stannis is especially off-putting. I'm talking about him being willing to burn his daughter and being killed by Brienne. I dislike when such gross OOC behavior happens, especially for characters like Stannis.

 

Isn't that the fic where Harry/Jon ends up killing like a hundred+ man by his lonesome in the woods to create weapons and armor stronger than anything else? Oh, and he also uses his magic ritual with another hundred man to enhance his body beyond anything mortal, trivializing every encounter henceforth? I couldn't even read the fight against the Night King: it was like trying to read a Dragonball Z fight.

If that's your definition of good writing, I encourage you to get out of fanfiction and actually read books.

Writing is quite good but likely un-beta'd and the author milks the most out of the premise.

I read that fic a month or two ago and thought it was pretty good. There was some angst, but that wasn't the main theme and wasn't to bad if I remember correctly.
