The Open Way AU: Robert's Rebellion has been crushed and the Targaryen dynasty continues to reign supreme, yet the Game of Thrones never changes...A song of Ice and Fire - Rated: M - English - Family/Adventure - Chapters: 4 - Words: 11,985 - Reviews: 35 - Favs: 24 - Follows: 32 - Updated: Mar 15 - Published: Mar 4 - Jon S., Oswell W., Rhaella T.

How to explain this story, Rhaegar wins Roberts rebellion. it asumes R+L=J. Jon is sent to live with Rhaella who survived birthing Daenerys. Things escalate from there on. Give the story a read. It might suprise you. The characters are written well.

The Still After The Storm is a rather decent one-shot. Nothing spectacular, but an enjoyable read. The basic premise is a 'what if' take on what may have happened had Robert married Catelyn Tully in order to garner support for his rebellion against Aerys, while Cersei ends up as the bride of Stark. This story is about Cersei and Eddard, while there's another one, a follow-up as it were, about Catelyn.

A Better Fate update, enjoyed it myself.

On another note are there any stories anyone knows of that has a competent Viserys? Preferably with the canon events happening, but i'm not overly worried about that.

Did you think it was going to go any other way? In the end that's kind of inevitable as someone said previously, people want to fix the story and make things better for their favorite characters, which in most cases happen to be the Starks.

Never mind the fact that the reason the books are interesting is because of how flawed the characters are or the problems they have, Tywin with his children all failing to live up to the standards he wanted, or Jon and the issues he has with wanting to be recognized by the Starks but at the same time proving he can be more than Ned's bastard. The same thing happens in any number of fandoms for what ever reason, but at least this is reasonably well written and doesn't involve SanSan at Disneyland or anything like that.

Five times diplomatic fostering changed the history of Westeros.
Or, the raised in different Houses AU. - what would have happened, had Lyanna grown up with the Martells? Or Bran with the Greyjoys?

I love the plot bunnies in this story, particularly number three and five.

I enjoyed this. Are there others with the same premise?

None that goes about it like that, i.e. Cersei moving off to Winterfell with Ned. I am however aware of one other Cersei/Ned story, but that one's a one-shot, a 'what if' where Ned took the throne, and Cersei became his wife.

Here's a link for it: The Joinery

There is a sequel in the same universe that focuses on Robert and Catelyns' relationship.

I knew this, but I don't much care about Robert or Catelyn.

First of her Name is basically a 'what-if' with a simple premise:

It's an unusual set of circumstances, character-shifts all around, that shape this story. Not all things are quite the same as they were in the history of Westeros that Martin wrote up. It's currently on-going, but without any regular updating schedule.

Passable, but fails as a story. It could have been written as a timeline and delivered the same result. Too little substance, though the premise is sound.

Overall, I've enjoyed it, though there are better stories and this one barely passes muster.

I have just finished reading what's been written so far of "In Good Company" and god almighty, this fic is fucking fantastic. Is there any reason why the author never finished it?

After the fall of Kings Landing, young war hero Eddard Stark wants sometime alone in the godswood. But what he finds is a kindered soul over a sack of wine. Ned/Cersei. Robert's Rebellion
    Rated: Fiction T - English - Romance/Angst - Eddard S., Cersei L. - Chapters: 5 - Words: 31,082 - Reviews: 78 - Favs: 114 - Follows: 145 - Updated: Apr 3 - Published: Jul 14, 2011 - id: 7180673

It's a decent enough Ned/Cersei fic, and it held my attention. There's a few misspellings, the most annoying being a characters' name once in a while, and at times I had to reread something to get a clear picture of events. The update rate is a let down though. Still, I think it's a good 3/5.
