Jon is in no way more legitimate than Robert. The crown is Robert's by inheritance and conquest. Jon's a bastard in this fic.

Also, I'll be really disappointed if the Sword of the Morning doesn't cut through the Mountain and Lorch.

There is no true right except that of conquest.

Inheritance means next to nothing if you haven't the strength to bolster your claims.

    A Push

Strange, I know, for Sansa to act at all, but there you have it. It's a fic that updates rather slowly (which I suspect is due to the fact the author is writing more than one story at a time), but so far it's... captivating. Maybe things are happening too fast for some people's taste, but I like the abrupt changes.

A Better Fate updated and it's a Sansa chapter. Tedious somewhat, but the author promises it will read better after you've read the next five or six chapters, when they actually come out.

He seems to update rather frequently, but then again, it's not like the chapters are of any great length.

So I'm thinking about writing my first piece as a Jon Snow doesn't go to the wall thing. Rather unlike "A Better Fate", he will actually go south with Robb. What I am currently weighing is the impacts of such a movement as well as where I should begin the divergence from canon to have the right effects on my story.

I have been thoroughly disappointed with all the Jon Snow going south and fixing everything fics or the Ned Lives and it is one big happy Stark family. I am hoping to make this realistic and still have a very GRRM sense of never knowing who will actually triumph.

The one thing I noticed as I started storyboarding this is it really is difficult to put together believable and interesting ASOIAF ff without using multiple and wideranging POV's. This isn't really like Harry Potter where stories which are 1st person can and do often work better than others. I don't really wan't to do something of the scope of North Remembers however because let's be honest I am somewhat new at this and I don't have the time for 800,000 words.

Oh well I am ranting now... Anyways I hope there is some interest in the bastard son of Ned Stark coming south to aid his trueborn brother to the best of his abilities. (Without it devolving into Jon Snow fixes all)

I think the most interesting way to take a Jon Snow fic like that would be Ned telling him the truth of his parentage (assuming LR=J) before the wall or he finds out somehow and calls to banners people who still support Targeryns to aid them. Changing it up a bit. That way it wont really be a Jon Snow solves all, but his involvement helps a lot.

Is Better Fate worth a read?

Not really. I'm sticking with it because I've read so much of it already.

You could also have a Jon Snow who deserts the Night's Watch, trying to help Ned by going South/to Robb. Unfortunately, Robb is as honorable as his father and will cut his head off/brands him an oathbreaker. But in the name of their brotherly bond, he gives him some time before alerting the guards.

So there you go, a Jon Snow who wants revenge for Ned, and who cannot go back to the Starks, or any of the noble houses in Westeros if they learn that he's a deserter.
Plenty of directions a fic like that could take.

Robb isnt as honorable as Ned though.

Also on wiki it states -

Throughout the course of the novels, many characters mention rumors or speculate on other women as well as Wylla whom they believe to be Jon Snow's mother although.

anyone know what chapters these are?

I never heard of that fic before today. It's got a few interesting things, and then some pretty over the top stuff as well. Gotta say my favorite chapters were Jaime's, while Jon's were... well, too much supernatural for me.

Tough question. I don't recall any of them though. If you're inquiring about whom might be Jon's mother, Ashara Dayne was brought up once as a possibility, in the first book, and Eddard Stark had a rather strong reaction to it when Catelyn asked him about it, but who knows what that was all really about.

I was hoping to get the exact scenes people discuss the potential parentage of Jon, I know the main suspects, but cant recall what chapters they all discussed him.

Can't remember the exact chapters but Ashara Dayne is usually brought up. The other potential mother that I remember is some girl from the Fingers/islands off the Vale that Ned apparently bedded after his ship was wrecked at the start of Robert's Rebellion. That was mentioned in a Davos chapter in the last book I think.

You could do it like, Jon joins the NW, deserts to join Robb, Robb is all honorable, "I'm turning you over but it isn't safe yet, blah blah enemy territory, the Greyjoys have the North" so he stays with Robb, then when Robb dies what remains of the North rallies behind Jon, the only one left, deserter or not.

Who says Robb is going to die if Jon is with him from the beginning of the campaign? Jon successfully led the defense of the Wall with less than 200 men against an army numbering iirc 100,000. He has some aptitude. Granted he did have a 800 foot wall to aid him.

Anyways I think I want to have the point of divergence be pre-Jon taking his vows. Although the renegade assassin alone against the world Jon does have merit as its own story.

Robb didn't lack competence in warfare, his downfall was mishandling allies. Jon has his own problems rubbing people up the wrong way, couldn't save him from a crossbow bolt.

Turning him over to whom exactly? As the newly proclaimed King of the North he has full right to end him then and there. Nothing more to it really, except for plot-purposes.
