I'll second Shadows of the trident. It's not really a fic but it's still entertaining.

He can be released from his vows. Robb, Stannis & co have that kind of authority.

The problem is if he deserts before being released from his vows. In that case that makes him an oathbreaker.

    Eh, it's fairly close.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't
Jon get stabbed to death even though Stannis 'released' him from his oath (though of course, Jon also basically called for a shitton of rangers and wildings to follow him)

No one can be released from Night Watch oaths. It was never been done in the history of 8000 years of the Night Watch. The closest was when Aemon was offered the crown by the grand council and the council with the High Septon was willing to anull the Night Watch oath. But this was the entire realm and the realm religious authority that was willing to do that.
In case of Stannis and Robb , the fact that Night Watch is devoted to all the kingdoms of men equally and not to King Robb or King Stannis would have made those offers being refused. If accepted the Night Watch overall would be breaking their oath, and any other magical consequences that would entail, the Night Watch would cease to exist as anything but an enemy to anyother part of Westross.

Think this way, The Night Watch commander durring conquest was Harran brother durring conquest. Should he and the Night Watch march along side king Torhen ,when he marched against Aegon? It is the same situation, but Robb and Stann are popular, and Jon can do no wrong so it ok?

It's literally irrelevant because I already said that I don't have Jon taking the Night's Watch oath anyways...

Eh, that's debatable. Seeing as it all ends with him blacking out... who knows? I bet that's one reason Melisandre stayed at the Wall.

This is hilarious if only for the following:

Now if you want a tragic love story here's something: The Narrow Theme of Love

We were debating about the vows, not talking about your future story.

Aaaaand good find Odran, though that one shot skipped the interesting parts. Robb not marrying Jeyne is a potential game changer.

Damn, Robb is quite a weak willed douche in this one.

He always was. The official books just finished him off before he had a chance to blunder into something even worse than his marriage to Jeyne Westerling.

Had he any sense, he would have arranged that Bolton had an 'accident' happen to him, but killing his own wife seems to make more sense to him than anything else.

Oh and So Soars the Young Falcon got updated again, this time with a Gregor chapter.

Are there any stories in which Ned Stark takes Renly up on his offer to seize the Iron Throne before the Lannisters can, and supports his claim?

The Honorable Lord Stark is the closest you'll get, but it's not what you want.

No, seriously. You have better chances of finding a fic where Ned Stark marries a fem!Roose than him actually usurping Stannis' rightful claim.

For what its worth a story where Jon Snow gets captured and sold was a gladiator and then goes all Spartacus on his slaver's asses would definitely be one I would read.

On a completely unrelated note are there any well written stories about Ned and Cersei? They don't have to necessarily be a couple just ones that are centered around the two of them.

There are quite a few Ned and Cersei stories out there, I'm sure someone will post them for you.

Forgive me if this was already posted, but I would like to suggest The House of Elendil, a Crossover with LOTR. The story has its problems, and the author can be about as fast updating as George Martin, but overall it is a damned good story.

Why would he arrange for Bolton to die? First off,you assume that he can pull this off. Second, Bolton has been a leal vassal and has fulfilled his obligations, even if he seems a prick. Killing him would...cause problems, on top of the massive social bias against such actions. By the time he needed Bolton dead he was shoving a knife through his ribs.

And Nothing Is Gained By Not Gathering Roses
    The Joinery
We're Only Taking Turns Holding This World
    The Lion Queen
    The Still After The Storm

Some of this was already recommended before in the thread.

Once Bolton began pressuring him about his wife, about the infidelity that they punish her for, but overlook his completely, he should have been disposed off. Roll with your gut instinct if you must.

With whom? And I said arrange an accident to happen, not kill him in direct confrontation. Who would weep for Bolton? Who would, as far as the North is concerned, give one shit when that family is just wiped out?

We're talking about this fic though, not the official books.

It's more of a crack fic than anything else.
