Here, yet another Ned/Cersei fic, but it just seems a bit too much of a fix-it-all for my taste: A Dance with Lions of Winter.

And fuck me, but "Fool's Gold" was fantastic. I really hate that it ended so abruptly, would have loved to read more about this alternate take. The best part is that the bitter bitch, trout cunt that she is, Catelyn Tully seems completely plausible as a zealot. Fuck, I really wish this had gone on.

It was great, possibly one of my favourite fics in any fandom (or maybe I'm just not inured to it in asoif fics yet).

I thought the ending was weirdly fitting. All those changes and yet everything stays the same. Ned, for all the changes wrought by Cersei, is still Ned and he still does something foolish and honourable to get himself killed. I love the fact that his actual death doesn't get seen at all. The end is 'Then Ned goes to King's Landing and the shit hits the fan'. That's basically asoif in a nutshell right there.

I dunno if continuing it (with some Jon/Dany and a Dany-Cersei alliance) would have improved it. I think it might have watered it down to be honest.

So Soars the Young Falcon updated with an Arthur Dayne POV with Ashara in it!

I am excited with the new origin for Jon Sand. Wonder who Lyanna's baby is going to be though...
Though he's likely to have Arthur hating him instead of Catelyn now :( Poor bastard can't catch a break no
    matter what.

Clearly, whoever it is going to be will be killed by Ned Stark in repayment for his brother's and father's death. Nah, not really. But I'd honest to god love, for once at least, to see Ned Stark not being so forgiving towards his sister (and everyone else in general). It'd be nice if he exiled her from the North.

Odran, an exiled Lyanna in the Free Cities would be interesting I agree.

Eh, chances are Robert would take her in, Ned just wouldn't allow her to come North anytime soon, seeing what her foolish actions had done to the whole realm, not to mention their family. Granted, it's not solely her fault, but she kickstarted it all.

There needs to be actual consequences for what she did, something more personal to her. Have her child taken away from her, or have it be born stillborn. And then get her cast out from her homeland. Ah, to dream.

I know this won't happen, I just like to imagine, every now and again, a Ned Stark that is more alike to the former Kings of Winter, rather than the meek-like Ned we all know to expect by now. Even this whole thing with the "Bloody Wolf" seemed interesting for a short while, except then it's pointed out Ned is still the same old. Bah, boring stuff.

A greenseer Ned could be interesting.

That's about the closest I've seen to a more hardened Ned. In the story Robert smiles at the dead Targaryen babies so Ned no longer sees him as a brother even after Lyanna's death. The majority of the story focuses on Jon growing up in Essos, but the times they have a Ned chapter he is shown doing some stuff that in canon he would never do.

One of biggest complaints I have of the story is
the author flipped the Targaryen coin and made Aegon into a twat. I guess I can understand why because for Jon to be the heir to the throne then Aegon needs to be gone.

It's not bad. I just do not see the causal chain from Ned reacting to the death of the Targaryens practically the same as in canon, to doing what he did in this story. Both releasing Aegon and the other stuff. It's not traumatic enough.

I would like to see a pissed off Eddard Stark who during the war is like a real Northman. Cold, cruel and merciless.

I've read that a month ago or so already, but thank you anyway. While I was amused by Ned having Bolton flay a number of Ironborn as punishment for their rebellion, it was not quite what I had in mind for the other parts of the story.

I dislike the, I can't quite call it that, vilification, but it's good as in Ned's eyes, of Robert. How convenient Ned forgets it was his sister's rash act that helped plunge Westeros in war. In any case, it's an alright time-waster, but not much else.

It's a bit of a fix-it-all, yeah, but at least it doesn't have Lyanna bitching about and Robert being a drunkard, infidel, wife-beater. That alone earns it a place among my guilty pleasures, at least.

Oh not to worry, you're not alone in that, it's my guilty pleasure too. It's so rare to see a Robert like that in an ASOIAF fanfic.

Gotta love little Rhaenys though. Well played, even if it was just a spur of the moment.
