Yeah, I'm sure he was all for helping Ned Stark and Jon Arryn, he wasn't trying to profit as much as he could from the whole ordeal before he had to get involved on general principle anyway.

Also, why the hell do you think that Margaery being bounced off from one guy to another is a good thing, let alone acceptable by the rest? Sure, it's helping now, in the short run, but otherwise that shit creates friction. Granted, Cersei has her own paranoid delusions to fear any wife for her son(s), and Margaery ain't helping things.

Decades? Robb was around 15-16 in the books when ACoK starts up. Also, what bond? To whom was it helpful, past the Rebellion?

Oh, I'm perfectly aware of that. Ramsay, Gregor Clegane, Cersei, Joffrey, Hoat, Tywin... loathsome and monsters, all. Hell, you can put Littlefinger in there as well, because while he might have never directly bloodied his hands, he is responsible for much of the misery that plagues Westeros.

Bottom line is, merely because I dislike the Tullys doesn't mean I'm ignorant of everyone else and that my focus is solely centered on them, so that I might bash them whenever I can. When any character is acting as stupid, as negligent, I call them out too.

By no means are Tullys #1 hated in my book, it's just that I've had ample opportunity to express my dislike of them in recent times.

You completely misread my post if you believe that I'm unaware that Hoster is benefitting.

And there is no general principle that forces him to get involved.

It shows how the system works. Calling it ridiculous only works if it is indeed evidently ridiculous to Hoster and...it isn't. This is how it works, and it works that way for a very fucking good reason.

Tension vs. a binding marriage with the king...decisions, decisions...

Margaery isn't helping things because Cersei is insane. It doesn't matter if she's been married before, Cersei hates Margaery because of a prophesy about a more beautiful woman, not the female Henry VIII of Westeros.
Past the Rebellion? It's not as if that bond let them united four of the kingdoms behind them during the Rebellion?

Also: I already dealt with this on the last page. Not that relationships weren't warmer than they would have been without some familial bond.

I don't think what Hoster did was too bad. The Riverlands are in a shitty place geographically. They are right in the middle of the map surrounded by potential enemies. When the rebellion happened Hoster made a choice to ensure that his northern and eastern neighbors would be allies to the Riverlands for a generation or two. He was thinking like a ruler trying to protect his people.

House Tully was in marriage/alliance via two daughters with two Paramount Houses: House Stark and House Arryn. Expecting aid in case of a crisis, a.k.a. Westerlanders invasion isn't exactly asking for miracles. That's calculation.

Miscalculation is not anticipating the depth of Lysa's insanity and Ned being more concerned with fortifying North(not unreasonable thing) than cleansing Riverlands. He sent a token force under Dondarrion that got butchered by The Mountain.

I'd say that during peacetime it was 100%. Then WoT5K started and Robb went 'Assuming direct control'. Things snowballed after that.

Robb didn't force anyone to join him. They chose to join the Northerners. And I doubt that they would have done that if their new king's mother wasn't a Tully.

Robb fucked up later but that little move was on the rivermen.

There is only one explanation for all the bad decisions Robb made. T'was his Tully blood acting up ;). Any other explanation would be stupid. *nods*

By now, I stopped posting one chapter updates for "So Soars..." but this latest one, IMO, is worth the post: Eddard

I just wish he didn't dawdle about with all the other, while not entirely unnecessary they could be combined into one chapter with multiple POVs, chapters and just went straight to the heart of the matter.

I fear this fic will have over 200 chapters before we get halfway through it.

I think the reason that each POV is a chapter is that it is published that way over on alternatehistory.com where the author publishes each POV as he gets done with them.

I'd be interested, I've read the books, watched some of the show, and I spend a decent amount of time of the forum of ice and fire. Plus I've followed the Dragon in the North from the first thread if you want proof of experience or something.

I just need people who don't play the game but know the stories to work with on stuff.

Huh, what do you know, I actually miss Joffrey. I've never read Ender's Game but this guy is messed up on a level that makes Joffrey look nonthreatening and fluffy.

    Mother of Madness indeed.

You should try reading Ender's Game. It's pretty good. The latter books get a bit too philosophical for my taste, but Ender's Game and Ender's Shadow are good. The latter even better than the former, IMO.

Times Like These updated, for anyone that's still reading it. Probably just me though.

For those who don't know the story from before, it's basically set up with the premise where Robert died in a hunt, before the Rebellion, Lyanna didn't run off with Rhaegar and she married Stannis in Robert's place.

Naturally, things aren't as simple as they seem.

Such a short update. Honestly, I had to reread the chapter before it: what happened in this chapter seemed like it already had.
