You should know by now that every time you ask anything that starts with "Am I the only one..." the answer will always be NO!, no matter what you're talking about.

That said, what's your beef with it?

 

It's really the thing at the end where Ned was suddenly Mr Evil that pisses me off

 

Mr Evil? I'm afraid the reference is lost on me. Or are you trying to imply that the author presented Ned in some evil, twisted way? Because no matter how much I enjoyed the tongue lashing he received from all three parties (Robert, Elia and Aegon), I don't think anyone would consider Ned to be evil. He was misguided and heavily biased what with being so close to Lyanna. Nothing wrong with that, it's just that not everyone's going to really take his side in these things. Hell, not even his bannermen like it, because they all went to war for the presumption that she was taken against her will and then it turned out that she was just another petulant girl who thought absconding from her betrothal with the Crown Prince would go without any consequences.

 

I think some people were complaining about that earlier in the thread IIRC. Robert pretty much says that he'd have had Jon killed if not for Elia then goes on to act like Ned was in the wrong for thinking that he'd kill a child or something.

 

The North never marched to war over Lyanna she was gone for a while before the deaths of Rickard and Brandon. Hell the rebellion didn't even start over that I think Lyanna just has a lot of hate in the fandom.

 

Lyanna caused Brandon to ride to KL. Which caused Rickard and Brandon Stark's deaths. Which caused the war.

She is in part responsible for the war (if she did elope with Rhaeagar). If it was a kidnapping, however...

 

That wasn't what caused the Rebellion either. It was a single letter which kicked off the War. Aerys asking for the Heads of Eddard and Robert was why Jon Arryn started the war.

 

Alright. Brandon and Rickard were killed, which caused the Mad King to write a letter to Jon Arryn for the heads of Ned and Bobby B. Because Mad King be mad, brah.

No matter how you twist it, the matter of Lyanna's disappearance (or kidnapping) indirectly caused Robert's rebellion.

That does not mean I dislike Lyanna. In fact, unlike a part of the fandom, I quite like her character.

 

How? We barely know anything about her.

 

She's a free spirit.

That's a very enticing description of the story, Bram. Really sells the fic well; and it's always a good thing when you link the first chapter in the story instead of, say, the third chapter.

I don't really have the time to read through and critique it right now, but I was a tad annoyed with your post, Bram, and that spurred my response. Wasn't meant to be personal, I just thought I'd try to correct you on your behavior; We like activity here at DLP, but we pride ourselves on generally reviewing the good qualities and flaws of a story. I'm just in a bit of a mood where I can't do that without some snark.

Easy mistake, welcome to DLP, etc.
