A Ranma crossover? Huh...now I've seen everything...

 

I'd gobble that shit up in this fandom if I liked the protagonist.

It's probably the only fandom in which I would.

 

Decently enough written, but I'm a bit iffy about the ages - I think they get married when she's 14 and Robb's 18, when he should be 21. Otherwise, it's more or less focussed on romance, and while people do die, they get off somewhat easier than in canon. It's not a completely happy romance all the way too, so there's that.

I admit to being impressed by her characterisations, especially those of the Lannisters. Jaime was really well done, especially near the end. Give it a read if you've time to waste.

I quite liked the bastard child and the dwarf baby. Dislike the North seceding so easily, because I've always wondered if that would hurt their economy and trade.

 

Lit chick is pretty decent with the romance. She seems to dislike using pronouns, though.

 

Okay, the sheer length and novelty of the idea of a Ranma and ASOIAF crossover made me start reading it, but the first sentences already have a big warning sign of terrible Ranma fics, which is Akane being an unrepentant, abusive, mean-spirited, petty asshole, Ranma having the moral high ground since he is the one reasonable person in Nerima and everyone hating/blaming Ranma which causes him to run away.

That, is a terrible and unfair characterisation of Akane. My question is, does this story treat the ASOIAF parts better? Is it worth reading this or is this going to be 400k words of Ranma being amazing and moral and flawless while beating everyone to the ground for being evil and atrocious? The summary seems to also hint to a harem...

If it turns into a light-hearted fic with the spirit of the Ranma manga happening in the ASOIAF world, it could be fun, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

 

Nope. It's all about Ramna being the almighty superman with super martial arts skills and detective prowess that he somehow figures out that Jon isn't his half brother and that he killed Gregor Clegane in a one on one fight by absolutely slaughtering him. Also the thing that happened with the Boltons. Yep, yep. It's all about sucking Ranma's dick (who in reality is actually just an author self insert with the name of Ranma)

If I recall correctly.

He went North with Ned and others, while they were stopped he went exploring and happened on Ramseys murdering/torturing of peasants. Then he allowed capture by Ramsey so the girl wouldn't have her throat slit, she then has her throat slit and he's knocked out. He eventually comes to in the Bastards torture chamber and after a little he escapes and proceeds to slaughter his way though the guards and such.

Ned and co. arrive around the same time after having noticed Ranma missing. Thus is born the tale of Ranmas superhuman prowess, which the south naturally fails to believe.

 

And in the end it causes Roose Bolton to lose his head because he had to fight the Starks and was overwhelmed.

 

Yeah I wouldn't read it if it was in another fandom with more quality. Still though, It's a guilty pleasure.

 

You know, if they were to make a Ranma/ASOIAF crossover they could at least have made it a fusion, exagerating the fighting prowess of the knights so that they are all martial artists. Heck, make it a fusion with several matial arts manga like Ranma, Dragon Ball, Ruroni kenshin and the like but with westernized/medieval setting rather than chines or japanese.

 

Giving Westeros a Ranma 1/2 makeover could be fun. Stuff like martial arts jousting, martial arts stitching (grand master septa orene with her best pupil Sansa defending her school), martial arts drinking and whoring and generally making things as silly as possible. I would even add martial arts flaying but that would be too dark, even for Ranma.

Unless you are someone who can write absurd comedy really well though, like Mozco or be able to really hit that Ranma 1/2 spot like Lathis or Claymade, I think a longer story wouldn't really work. Maybe a few oneshots for different situations.

 

If only Blackdragon6 was still writing. Something like that would be right up his alley.

 

Big Human on Campus is still one of the most hilarious fics I've ever read. If it was Black Dragon writing a Ranma/ASOIAF X-Over, I'd totally read it.

 

I still don't understand why he quit.

 

He basically got old and fell out of fanfiction and anime.

 

Regarding I Fear No Fate (For You Are My Fate, My Sweet), this was so similar to another Robb/Myrcella fic I read years ago (Pretty sure it was Acts of Treason and was recced on the first page of this thread, but seems to have been pulled from FF.net since so I can't confirm) that I kept thinking I was reading the same fic. I only realized it was different at the very end, where I distinctly remember several scenes I really liked which didn't appear here.

Mainly regarding some interaction between Myrcella and Cersei, and Myrcella and Tywin/Kevan just before they're about to be executed.

Most of the events in the story seem ridiculously similar. Can someone confirm it was Acts of Treason I'm thinking of and not something else?


Anyway, regarding Ranma fics, the only one I've ever read that managed to pull off "serious" was probably Haigeki. Ranma fics should be light hearted, fun and silly. You could either make the ASOIAF universe silly to match it, or just have Ranma going in and being himself in the fact of this grimdark universe that takes itself very seriously. But yeah, a serious Ranma being changed to match the ASOIAF universe? Sounds horrible, especially with the character bashing Nemrut mentioned.
