I'm in the mood for a story where Jon becomes either the King of the North or the Iron Throne. Anyone ever see anything that's readable?

 

Uhm, basically no... There are a couple of AU ones where he starts out as a Targ that are readable. As a whole the fandom is pretty weak especially in that regard. They also often end up as shit Jon/Sansa.

 

Yeah, that was kind of a dumb plot point. Can't say I cared for the chapter in light of it

Sansa was pretty much an idiot at first. She picked the boy she liked and barely knew over her sister, which got her wolf killed and Arya to lose hers.

This isn't that surprising. She is like 13 and barely knows anything. Some guy wants the history of winter fell for some fabric that will make her look nice to Jon. I know girls that age who probably would do it.

Plus... It's freaking a song of ice and fire. People make bad choices that fuck everything up.

 

Yep, people here tend to forget that some of these characters are teenagers, Sansa is barely 13. Teenagers are just kids full of hormones who aren't even really sure of what they want to do yet, but the one thing they are known for is fucking themselves over with their own curiosity, naive boldness and that eagerness to experience.

Really can't find it in myself to blame the characters for fucking up, but yes I do agree that some of the things this author does is entirely too hamfisted and very predictable. He's trying too much to be G.R.R Martin, and not really in a good way.

 

I really don't think telling the trader about Winterfell is in any way comparable to any of the mistakes Sansa made in canon. For the most part, they were all understandable to some degree - they made Sansa look naive, but realisticly so, and her motivations for doing so were a lot stronger than wanting some nice fabric. This is just lazy writing - Viserys needed to be inside Winterfell, so logic and characterisation was totally discarded to make it happen.

 

I can certainly agree with that. As I said, some of his writing is entirely too hamfisted in the sense that "this has to happen so this guy has to do this just because".

 

Sansa's big screw-ups in canon were done because she was in love with Joffrey (or thought she was at any rate), so I can understand them more. Here she traded knowledge of Winterfell for some nice clothes. Even if she somehow really thought that knowledge was worthless, the fact that a trader (someone who goes around selling his stuff for a living) would trade a very valuable dress (or whatever it was) for that knowledge should've tipped her off to the fact that something wasn't right here.

The antics our GoT RPG group - GMed by enembee - have gotten pretty story worthy. Right now Dorne is fighting a war for independence from Westeros.

 

That was the one where you guys tried to solve some murder mystery and completely failed and antagonized the lord who hired you, right? Or something like that.

 

We've gotten a lot better since then, thank you very much.
