Got up to date with Our Choices Seal Our Fate a few days ago.

It was almost like two completely different stories. First half felt like a typical teenage romance filled with a love triangle, angst and everything else you expect. It was still well written, but nothing special.

Then it felt that at some point the author suddenly decided they'd prefer to write The North Remembers, full with character deaths, lots of politics and bloodshed. And some fantastic battles. Some of the most entertaining ASOIAF fandom battle scenes I've read were in that fic. It's something canon didn't put much emphasis to, and neither has most fanfics I've read. Got pretty interesting as it went along.

I went into this without much expectation but was pleasantly surprised. As of yet, Dresden has had minimal interaction with the Plot or anyone too important to it and I think that has been a great decision.

Being that Dresden came to the universe with Maggie, he's more focused about living and raising her than he is about sticking his nose into the big events of the world and that has avoided the pitfalls many crossovers fall into - ie, cheesy scenes of a crossover character allying with the Starks and then bulldozing over the competition. Helps that he's spent years just minding his own business in Braavos.

It does mean that the first chapter lacks a hook to draw you in. It instead starts more like a typical Dresden book - starts at a typical day in the life of Harry Dresden, and then builds from there. From a few small side stories, to Dresden getting involved in the more mysterious and magical side of ASOIAF.

Anyway, I'd recommend to anyone who hasn't tried it yet. It's a refreshing change in the ASOIAF universe.

Well, I'd just looked into that ASOIAF/DF crossover and I can't say I like it.

My dislike has probably a lot to do with the whole 'let's change the world' angle from Dresden himself, inventing the printing press, compasses, steam engines and so on. It's not his primary focus, but still annoying.

That's an SB/SV schtick. X or Y hero gets transported to Antiquity/Middle Ages, reinvents the printing press, the gunpowder and so on and so forth and brings enlightenment and science to the unwashed masses.

Can't say I like it either.

Though if you read the last update...

The compasses Dresden 'invented' are being put in use by the Greyjoys. Who just rebelled. At least the author keeps it interesting.

Harry gets dropped somewhere in Westeros without any real explanation, and uses magic to become Lord of Harrenhal and prepare for Winter.

It's only 8.5k words so far, but looks like it'll be more than a one-shot. The writing isn't fantastic, the character voices aren't quite there, but the concept is interesting if nothing else. Too early to judge really, but probably a 3/5 if it continues like this.

There's another Harry dropped into Westeros and changes things with magic story, The Difference One Man Can Make. It's not the best written story ever, but I'm a sucker for building stories that cause butterflies.

It is a HP/GoT story, where harry is mostly limited to westros magic, currently grreensight. I expect he will gain warg abilities as well as wood dancer gifts. So influencing and becoming animals. THe more types o magic he encounters, the more abilities he gains access to. He has some ability with stone, as he restored harrenhal keep. I think the children had power with tree, stone, fire, and water i think.
His current lands are very fertile, so i wonder if he can make plant and trees grow, if so, could he increase magic by regrowing the weirwood trees. THere is that place high hearts where only stumps remain, and there are hollow hills, places filled with the roots of destroyed weirwood trees. THe faith of the seven, took the idea of godswoods from the old religion, so why not ensure each one has a weirwood growing.grown in it.
He could go to deep moat to restore the keep there, or at least the children tower. It is believed high tower and storm's end were built by bran the builder. The stepstones were created by the children breaking the arm of dorne. Plant a tree on each island and one on essos, to draw power of that connect, shaping the stone to create a network of stone tunnels allowing easier access and travel.
I think dragon lords were a kind or warg, and able to forge their steel and glass similar to the children and stone.

    3/5 agreed.
It's okay and there's something off about how the dialogue flows but I'd keep an eye on it.

    The Squire of Dragonstone

Well written so far. Not much is happening except seeing Jon's life as a squire on Dragonstone and what Stannis is thinking of it all. Still, it's written well enough that I'm interested in where it's going. Looks like it'll be short since it's set for 6 chapters.

I like it, but I still find it hilarious that when Ned says Jon hasn't even had a proper life before deciding to go and join the NW Robert responds with "Let's put him up with Stannis!"

Found this the other day : Magic is Might

Harry found his way onto Westeros but we don't really know how yet and neither does Harry. He decides to go to the Citadel to learn more about magic because he's discover his ability for it. Original idea so far, execution is well done and the grammar is good. Bit short to rate yet, but I'd say at least 3/5 if not 4/5 depending on how the story goes.

I don't like it. It's very heavy-handed with its plot, with characters knowing things chapters ahead of what they should in canon. I call it the Author's Fallacy, since they have entire knowledge of the books, and it bleeds into their characters ahead of schedule, such as
Stannis already knowing about Robert's Bastards, and knowing that Jon Arryn was murdered.

I like it but the whiff of guilty pleasure is strong. And maybe it's the fact that we don't have that many Jon as squire for Stannis fics but I read it all in one seating and it held my attention. I didn't get the urge to close it or roll my eyes. So I have to say that I'm pretty happy with this fic.

    I'd give a 3.5/5.

Ugh, just right off the bat I don't feel like they got the characters down. Ned can't possibly conceive of the fact that Robert doesn't like Cersei. I get that he's honorable and that can lead to stupid decisions, but he's not stupid. And Robert suggesting he foster with Stannis is just contrived because it was what the author wanted to write about. Effect, no cause.

But he knew. That's the reason he fled King's Landing in the first place.

It's only been 3 months or so since I reread the series (for the second time) and I don't remember that being mentioned at all, at least not explicitly. Then again, the series is quite ponderous at times and easy to lose track of some things.

Just finished going through this, and if I had to describe it with a word, that word would be "terrible." The story is just so... random. He get's pulled out of the citadel to go to Essos with his teacher, only for him to get sent off to Winterfell instead and meeting Margaery Tyrell on the way? Also, the brief dreams are stupid too, there's easier ways to merge the two worlds together. Knowing how or why Harry is in the world just doesn't seem as pertinent as the fact that he is there.

Other than that, there's not really much to say about it, other than I have little hope for it.

Harry is the master of death, and the faceless men worship death, so surely there should be a story with him there.
