Master of death means nothing unless the author wants it to. I've actually wanted to read a ISOT style fic but instead of modern ppl getting shoved into Westeros, Westeros gets dropped in the middle of the Atlantic and the story is about the following socio-cultural-science-magical upheaval of both world societies. I love me a good ISOT story (which is rare)

Edit: also, the book wouldn't exist in such an ISOT ;)

Probably lead to a lot of death and global economic recession seeing as you're putting another continent the size of South America in the Atlantic.

I think Ned mention it at some point, when he discovers the truth. Something about Stannis investigating the bastards of Robert with Arryn. Following the death of Jon Arryn, Stannis was afraid it was assassin of the Lannister and fled to Dragonstone to prepare his next move. Would have to recheck but since the chapter are not numbered I can't be bothered to find the right page.

I'll agree that the meeting with Margeary was contrived and Harry going to Winterfell was poorly handled. I think the Maester wouldn't have cared at all about Harry's friend nor Harry would have cared as much as to traveled for months to the North (a journey which took only days in this story, seems like the world was shrunk).

I disagree with the why Harry is now in Westeros. I think the dream are interesting, just as much as the fact that no Northmen can remember a House Potter and yet seem to accept his word on its existence. Perhaps the author will handle this poorly and we'll end up with some stupid reason for how Harry got for Westeros, but I think there is potential as well on that front. If anything, the premise of Maester!Harry is refreshing.

I really enjoyed Game of Thrones by BeastWithinProductions

    Summary:
Following Robert's Rebellion and the downfall of the Targaryen Dynasty, Robert married Lyanna and Ned returned North. Only to be called to battle six years later against the Greyjoy's. Now Eight Years later Ned is called from his home to help his friend and family. But Dark winds are stirring and this time the realm will bleed like it has never before.

This writer doesn't know how to capitalize, and the grammar's pretty iffy as a whole. I don't really have the patience to give it a proper chance. Seems shoddy, but maybe the plot makes up for it.

Chapter five came out today. It's alright, the story hasn't blown me away, but it has been, and remains, an alright time waster.

So here is a question/comment from an anon from Our Choices Seal Our Fates author's tumblr:

and here is the authors response:

...And honestly the anon is right, the author is just making things a bit of a rehash of canon, a few changes but everything is the same...I just hope he makes A Knight's Watch sequel good.

I agree, Fate seems to kind of just play off every thing that has happened ins ASOIAF and switched who it happened too or reversed the situations. No real inspiration. Liked Knight's Watch more.

I'm going to be honest, it's been ages since I've read the books and I haven't paid much attention to whether scenes are mirroring canon events, but I can see what the author is saying here. Showing parallels between canon and your AU can be interesting, especially if those parallels further show what has been changed.

One example I can think of is Rhaegar telling Jon they'd speak of his mother next time they saw each other, and then dying before they had that conversation. Just as Ned did in canon, but it's different in so many ways here coming from Rhaegar, where Jon knows who his mother is but has still had so much kept from him.

Honestly, it's pretty retarded to say that this is a rehash of canon. It might cover similar themes at times, or rework a familiar scene from canon, but it's ridiculously far from a canon rehash.

Welp, that last chapter of "The Squire of Dragonstone" was fairly disappointing.

I wasn't expecting anything outstanding from it, but the way it just ended... meh.

From what else I've read of that author's stories practically all of their stories pretty much end right as things get interesting.

Not much in the way of conflict. Pure character piece. The story would've been better if it got into the meat of the main conflict of Thrones and we got to see Jon partake in whatever war followed.

It was an enjoyable time waster but nothing to truly write home about. Thing is, with a concept like this and the proposed length, I never expected much in terms of plot, the game of thrones and the song of ice and fire and more enjoyable and interesting character interaction. On that front, the story had a lot of potential I was looking forward to.

The best student - mentor relationships are those when both parties can learn something from each other and this match-up definitely has the potential for that. Their interactions in the books, as men in positions of, while not equal at least in similar positions of power was rather interesting but the potential of a more informal, educational bond is a pretty cool concept, since Stannis and Jon have great chemistry in terms of personalities.

Problem here was, it was a bit heavy handed in the story, a bit melodramatic, with angsty shouting matches about their family sob stories where Jon runs off, that's not either of them. Dunno, that just seemed weird and inappropriate. Overall though, I did enjoy their talks and I quite liked he conclusion that Stannis would have liked Jon to be his son, even if I feel that the story did not quite earn that resolution. Would have loved to see more there.

More disappointing were the fact that Jon had awesome potential to interact with three more characters and he really only interacted with one of them. Jon being a big brother figure and friend to Shireen was adorable and heartwarming but once again way too short, would have loved to see more of that. In chapter six it says that Jon had a lot of influence on her but that was more telling, not showing.

Another missed chance was Davos, who only really talks with Jon once, for a short scene and I felt that a lot of potential was missed there. I mean, Jon is already familiar with Stannis perspective, being not all that different from Ned's but Davos is offering something entirely new and unfamiliar.

Melissandre was missing altogether and I guess she would have been distracting, but I dunno, might have been interesting if Jon had been a squire for longer, like, since he was ten or so and had years of trust building up between him and Stannis and when she came into Stannis court, she would have to influence him whilst being opposed by Stannis two most loyal men. I think that would have altered his perception of her and the way he took her advice. Again, different story, and one that would need to be longer and I realize it is silly blaming a story for not being something else.

I might have been taking this story too seriously, it was a decent time waster but I kinda blame it for making me hope for so much with its premise alone but only delivering a meh story. Good for a quick read, I guess, but nothing much.

    3/5

Can someone link the story where Jon's born looking like Rhaegar and is like banished to the Night's Watch after Robert's Rebellion and like a shit load of other people willingly go with him. Think Arthur Dayne becomes Lord Commander. Pretty sure it's a one-shot.

Same, a multi chapter version of the one with Jon as a Vale knight would be really cool as well.
