Has that author all but abandoned a sequel to A Knight's Watch at this point? I notice he or she also has a fic on Aegon the Conqueror that's been written as well, but no word yet on a sequel to A Knight's Watch. I wonder if he or she is waiting on The Winds of Winter before putting anything down yet for the sequel.

    EDIT:
Nice bait and switch in the most recent chapter of "Our Choices Seal Our Fate." That was a little difficult to read.

Honesty this chapter is a bit meh to me, except the Arya part, which is decent.

Honestly the author get's too weird with his shipping. If he just would leave out the angsty romance stuff it might be good. Are you guys scrolling past all that shit or how do you find his storys readable?

I forced myself through 'A Knights Watch' and I thought it was really bad... Then I gave 'Our Choices Seal Our Fate' a chance it was even worse. (ANGST!)

Didn't bother with 'The Conquest', would you guys say the new story deserves a chance?

Took a peak at "The Conquest", saw it was yet another fic with Lyanna/Rhaegar, clicked the big ole X. I get that this is a different setting than the one in canon, but I still very much detest it.

Lyanna and rhaegar don't interact once. That being said the conquest is weak

True, I've not seen that thus far, but it does have scenes of San/San and that's yet another thing to be loathed.

Edit: Never mind, they do interact, it's in the very first chapter, albeit the lower part of it.

Edit 2: And it's got Jon/Daenerys sex scenes.

    Yeah, nah, skipping this shitpile.

Why do people care so much if this character is with that character?

Great question. I'd just prefer a good story first especially with how few we have compared to other fandoms. Beggars can't be choosers. I very rarely reject stories because of shipping. I'm not a huge Jon/Sansa fan but if it doesn't suck I'll read it. Same thing with the waifu wars, if it isn't what people want they get angry. It's sad

Because people want to experience a relationship -- i.e. have lots of sex -- with that character, and this lets them do it by proxy.

I personally think it has something to do with trend. The majority claim Lyanna and Rhaegar loved each other and secretly got married just so Jon has a legitimate claim and can carry a non bastard name despite there being no canon proof of how it went down. Of course that's what fanfiction is for, but when a certain fanon theory becomes popular I think it starts to grow unpopular with some people. It's like being a fanfiction hipster. They get tired of seeing the same idea written by fans, but if GRRM wrote it then they wouldn't complain.

I don't mind when Lyanna and Rhaegar are portrayed as star-crossed lovers - though I roll my eyes most of the time- but I'll say it has gotten to the point that I want to read more fics where Rhaegar is everything Robert Baratheon says he is; a mad kidnapping rapist who took Lyanna against her will or manipulated a younger girl to climb on his horse.

It's odd; when it came to Harry Potter I was adamantly against certain pairings and hoped for others, but when it comes to A Song of Ice and Fire there really isn't any pairing I'll object to except slash and San/San. It has to do with the fact that GRRM has put more characterization into both his POV and non-POV characters making me care more about the fates of a character like Sandor Clegane or Jeyne Poole than I would Ginny Weasley or Anthony Goldstein.

I don't mind San/San. I don't like it more or less than any other pairing. I don't even really mind slash, though I've literally never seen it handled well, outside of less than a handful of Renly/Loras & Willas/Oberyn/Ellaria pieces that I've read.

I've said this before, but more than anything, it's bad writing or terrible characterizations that turn me away from a fic, not something so trivial as a pairing. I read a Sansa/Tywin story and I remember enjoying it, for the most part.

I used to care, a little, but I grew out of it.

Seal our fate just feels so...pointless. I mean what's the point in all of these changes if the result is all the same? The characters aren't even written that well, they all seem so utterly stupid and handled without the grace that GRMM does with the characters. The plotlines feels so contrived and most parts don't even mesh well with the others.

All in all it all seems so pettily pointless, like the author is just copy pasting events from the book itself and then use different characters to make it seem new, when all it does it make the whole event just so much weaker because it already happened in the books and it was way superior than what happened in the fic.

The author just feels like he's trying too hard to be GRMM, but he's failing miserably on it. All the while he's being sung praises by his adoring fans who keep sucking up what he does and treat it like its godly.

Certain pairings attract a certain kind of group. Like, Harry/Ginny shippers are by and large a bunch of 12 year old girls who can't write and all the stories tend to read the same and are bad. But, if there happened to be a good Harry/Ginny story, I would read it. Good plot and great characterizations can do a lot for a story, even going so far as to get you to like a character you never normally would. But, instead, we just get a mass of fics involving chestmonsters and soulbonds.

ASOIAF has the same sort of problems. San/San is just stupid - that's a byproduct of canon where Sansa is an awful character with Sandor being vaguely sort of interesting. The amateurish abilities of the fanfic shippers who write it just exemplify the problem, and they all tend to be forumaelic with Sansa being some Disney princess who get's rescued by some misunderstood anti-hero. It could possible be done well, it just hasn't been done well yet. I still probably wouldn't read it anyway, because I just don't have any invested interest in those characters, and a story that focuses enough on a pairing just to get them to work is probably going to be suffering in other areas, such as actual plot. That's one of the biggest problems with a fic like Ned Stark Lives!, the fic itself is passable (sort of), but every scene involving Arya and Gendry feels forced, and ruins the whole flow of the entire story because the author has some obsession with that pairing. Without it, the story could be bumped up a rating.

Tyrion urges King Robert to send Myrcella and Tommen to Winterfell to be fostered. They become stronger with a sense of loyalty and justice. When an Imp is arrested for murder, a king will see him freed. Debts must be paid. Winter is coming. Chaos will reign. A story of lions, stags, wolves, roses and even dragons. Starts after Purple Wedding.

A pretty good ASOIAF fanfic. Tommen and Myrcella are fostered in Winterfell and learn something about loyalty. Because of this, everything changes after Joffery's death. Tommen actually has a backbone (even though he is new to politics), Myrcella is cunning and Tyrion never goes East.

I would rate it a 3.5/5 right now, with potential to go up. It is rehashing canon a wee bit, but the last couple of chapters make it diverge quite a bit. I like the characteristics of most the characters. They are changed slightly, but still quite in character and devious.

Sight unseen I'm cautious because before the events of canon Tyrion is seen as a whoremongering drunken embarrassment who no one respected. As readers we know him but for most he's just a joke and I tend to doubt Robert would listen to a Lannister regardless.
