Are there any half-decent stories exploring the impact of Oberyn winning Tyrions trial by combat?

 

I don't want to digging through the whole long Ass thread but any fics with Jon Snow as main character that is post season 5 or during season 5?

 

Well there's And, The Giant Awoke, which isn't exactly the same but diverges at the same place. Basically, Tyrion wins the duel all by himself by outsmarting the Mountain and then proceeds to voluntarily go into temporary exile to Essos. From there, he starts coming up with various new ideas like the printing press or new medicine and introduces it all to the world.

Honestly, it's a decent time-waster but not incredible. I'm not a fan of science!fics where either SIs or other characters suddenly come up with new ideas that radically change the whole setting. But at least this fic doesn't dive head-first into Tyrion suddenly making guns and cannons yet.

 

That sounds fucking horrible, tbh.

 

It is fucking Horrible, if I remember right Tyrion fight the Mountain with a shield made out of Toffee...

 

I remember that when it was one chapter, I think. The taffy thing was amusing, and it could have stood as a cracky one-shot if the ending of that chapter was made a shade less wanky.

...unsurprised to see it totally dove off a cliff though.

 

Do any of you guys want to participate in a round robin (ASOIAF/DragonAge)? I've just started one. It could turn out interesting.

 

The premise is far-stretched, but I was pleasantly surprise. The writing is actually decent and the way it's narrate was refreshing. There were a couple of tropes used such as Tyrion inventing the printing press or a new medecine which basically is ushering a new age unto Essos (mostly), the author has some refreshing ideas

Tried this but couldn't really stick to it. It's not terrible, decent even, but dunno, meh. Didn't really grab me.

I usually hate this type of SI. I kinda need my SI to be reincarnated into the new setting, so they they grow up in the new society and it becomes somewhat believable that they get used to thins and get a plan together as opposed to this kind, where someone just wakes up as a canon character.

Suddenly we are supposed to believe that some shmuck is so capable and so many things, that they can take over a position of leadership in a society they have casually read a few books on, play the political and military game perfectly and introduce science and modern methods and tactics, becoming the major power in the region.

There are definitely strong shades of that, it's not a good story, by any take, but it was surprisingly fun so far. 3/5 but enjoyable as a guilty pleasure but as it is with this kind of stories, it already loses some steam in my eyes, don't really like the Dorne development so far, so, might drop it.

Yeah, this sucked. Terrible premise and Tyrion defeating the Mountain with Toffee or whatever? Yeah, pretty lame.

I quite enjoy your SI as well, Hash. Writing quality is definitely above the usual ASOIAF SI norm and it definitely helps that you didn't invent the steam machine yet.

 

Not yet, but it has been suggested I invent the guillotine.

 

At least with the guillotine you can say that it's an old forgotten Bolton contraption that hasn't been used for hundreds of years.
