My first fic.
First two chapters up. My story that begins with the return of Sirius and covers the two years that harry spends with the EC. It started with the two ideas: 1) What is beyond the viel? and 2) A scene I wrote featuring the invasion of Hogwarts. The world of Ark, Avalon and the EC are mine. Harry/Hermione, Sirius/OC Despite the lighthearted begining this will become a much darker story, especially once harry arrives back on earth. Let me know what you think.

 

It's not some weird book in which Harry forms a cult, like a dovetail of Heinlein's novel "Stranger in a Strange Land," is it?

 

Nope it isn't

No it isn't. The title refers to the cultural dislocation that harry and sirius both undergo on avalon. Avalon is a society formed up of a mingling of two very different cultures. It is also an empire perpetually at war. Hence the EC which is more like the British East India Co. than anything else: A militaristic colonial organization. The social standards are very diffent as well. The attitudes about sex being a very good example. For example, Emilly's father, Gloval Wingess, honestly doesn't see the difference between sex between two seventeen year olds in a relationship and two 34 year olds in the same position. This is the result of a society where war is a constant. That is just one example. Or the little rituals that strangers find perplexing. In chapter 3 (currently being written) when the grangers arrive aboard they accidently insult the captain by turning down his pipe and saying to him "Sorry, but we don't smoke". Their attitudes on killing are very different as well, to them there is no such thing as evil, only shades of grey. To quote Dune "They are casual killers"

Finally a good hp/sf, with a few exceptions there aren’t may sf hp stories out there. This one look like its going to be very good,
I look forward to reed chapter 3 when it’s reedy.
I only have one question why wait 3 weeks to get the rest of them?
